I decided to pick up some spare parts following my shoddy attempt at stopping my bike from creaking which incidentally I did 🫣 I thought it a good idea I read the book instead of eating the covers and bought some new crank arm extraction bolts, a spare cover and the tool for removing it, no not me this time

I needed these after my stroke. Regular platform peddles were difficult to place my left shoe and clipless were impossible. I decided to sit down and design my own peddles with some sort of magnetic fastening system. After a few hours of sketching out something that might work …I decided to Google magnetic peddles. Taaah-Daaah !!! There they were. Magped Peddles.

Rick from Magped was very helpful. When they arrived the option for strengths (100-150-200) were included at that time. I started off with the 150’s and within a week switched to the 200’s.

It was a game changer for me. Engagement and release was easy but that took a little getting use to. The release action is different but achieved with a sideways motion rather than a twist motion.

I’ve only had three accidental releases in 5 years but never remained attached after a crash.

I’m currently using Avery RemTech peddles. They are heavier but have an articulating magnetic platform. I don’t know if that helps …but it looked interesting .

I can’t say which is better, they both behave similar. But I see the Enduro2 have a titanium spindle which reduces the weight slightly.

I won’t, or can’t, ride without magnetic peddles now.

obviously this definately didn't involve overkill so I bought another pair of forks

Manitou's finest Dorado Pro forks to be exact, this is something I've lusted over for a while and possibly a natural progression from Manitou's Mezzer forks that I already own

also, they were cheap on ebay

if they arrive I'll drop the travel from 203mm to 180mm & try them on my Torque

I've been lusting after a long travel emtb for a while, and If I ever got one I'd deffo put a set of Dorado's on, I love my Mezzers too.
Though I'd maybe go for the expert version, the Pros look dope, but the thought of carbon legs scares me a little in the event of a heavy spill, though I'm sure they are strong af.

The Torque on looks a sweet bike, have you done the Shimano update on the motor, how do you find it?

You mention dropping the travel of the Dorado down to 180, is this the limit of the Torque or do you think you could bump it up to 190/200, would it mess the geo up too much?

have had the update AND then bought an SM-PCE02 interface to read faultcodes / update & play

Love the EP801 & the 'new' overrun is also good, now waiting for Shimano & Sram to sort their shit so my wireless derailer can have autoshift

as to Dorado travel, I'll look into it when it lands, got to measure & think, I remember something about possibly running the Torque:ON with 190mm BUT I'll have to reserch that a bit more

there is a chance my hoof won't let me ride rough stuff anymore so I'd end up with a verry comfortable long-traver bike

I don't like riding on tarmac, but now and again when the local trails are all wet and boggy I venture out on a tour of the local villages and in to the nearby town to access a defunct railway track bed for the return home. I can see the traffic in front just fine, but I am concerned about the traffic behind. I found this in the local Halfords (motor and bike spares). Behold! The ORB bike light (rear). £9.99 I really like it! It looks like quality.

It has a high intensity red light, rubber strap to secure. Press the bulb to activate and to cycle through the options: steady state, slow flash, quick flash, off. Two 2032 coin batteries and it will last for 100 hours of steady state, twice as long for the quick flash and twice as long again for the slow flash. The batteries are accessed by twisting the body. It is a fine thread and requires many turns. A rubber seal is in there as well, so it looks well waterproofed to me. The mount is angled so that when I fastened it to my seat tube, the light is pretty much horizontal. The intensity of the light tails off sharply from straight on, so getting the light approximately horizontal is recommended. It is very neat and tidy in design and is unobtrusive. By chance it is the same shade of black as my seat tube.

Have SQlab 12 degree backsweep bars and noticed during several rides that the way I was holding the bars looked like I'd be better off with less backsweep. So bought some PNW 31.8 38mm rise 10 degree backsweep carbon bars. Cut them down from 800mm to 780mm* and after fitting went out on one of our well trodden 12 mile routes. Couldn't believe the improvement that such a change made to control/handling/comfort, really surprised. Just bought same bars for wife's bike but not going to tell her until a few rides in, y'know what gurls are like if you change stuff on their bikes.

* Have a very silly wingspan (gorilla) and would actually prefer 800+ bars but would catch on trees

This morning changed Mrs bars on her Rail to PNW carbon also cut to 740 as before. Out together tomorrow, wonder if I'll get "that look"? Mrs is 5'7"/171cm with 171cm wingspan.

During my ride yesterday my AXS Reverb dropper stopped working. I was able to place it in mid position and continued my ride. When I got home I charged the small Sram battery. Installed and still not working. WTF . Did my dropper just die?

Then I remembered that the wireless controller needs a 2032 coin battery to function.


A brand new 2032 Duracell battery. Easy …but …these Duracell batteries have a very thin coating that needs to be removed sometimes. I lightly rub all three sides on very fine emery cloth (400-600 grit).

Thank goodness it works fine now. It goes up and it goes down.

It’s been a while since I bought a Timber bell for my bike but on a few rides it’s been really annoying me with jingling when it’s been in the locked off position, so I’ve been online and found a bell that’s got good reviews, it’s loud, discreet and quite cheap, time will tell if it’s any good but I’m willing to give it a try for just over £7 from Amazon, here it is.

Well not so much this week but this month…I’ve given the Great Whyte a bit of an up grade……Rockshox Zeb Ultimate for the front, Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate for the rear, Bel-air saddle, 220mm rotor and a new set of RRP Proguard fenders. Plus Fork Juice (recommended to me)and some more go to chain Lube.
Didn’t see the point of replacing the bike when it still seems new to me (2020)…

I have the, also excellent, E Hornet 2 (2 bike) rack which I bought from roofbox.co.uk for around £280. It came with a strap for looping round the top tube(s) in the event the rack's bike arms fail for some reason. On a 550 mile journey from Kent to Ayrshire two weeks ago the knob holding my wife's Powerfly somehow came undone at some point. On arrival I discovered the only thing stopping the bike from pivoting down from the wheel straps was the free strap! I'd never not use it now! (As an aside, I spoke to roofbox and they said Buzz Rack are really good for spares availability and they hold a lot in stock, if you ever need anything.)

Swapped out a DVO Topaz for a levo tuned Vivid.
The DVO was a great shock but kept needing a full rebuild every few months.... I learned to do it myself but it's just a massive Ballache! Vivid has a 200hr damper estimate.

Definitely feels like an upgrade - the rear feels a lot more solid, less side flex.... its a firmer move through the travel.. "mid stroke support" and all that chat

not the cheapest @ £157.50 (ebay) but has a Pressure-reservoir that's dumpable as well as being able to pump conventionally

Tested on 2 Michlin tyres (E-Wild & wild enduro) on Nukeproof Neutron 29" rims - 50% success rate on first try BUT that was dry rims and I've no idea what pressure to set the reservoir

Was that the DVO Topaz shock that you bought from me?

If so, while I'm glad that you thought it was great, I confess I'm disappointed to hear about its service requirements. I thought that I had researched the shock extensively and I never came across the rebuild requirement.
But I'm glad I dodged the bullet on that one!

I only did 347 not very hard miles on it, but it had taken nearly six months to get hold of one and I sold the bike 3 months after fitting the shock. I liked it a lot so I removed it before selling the bike, after refitting the original Rockshox Deluxe R Debonair. I liked the shock on my new bike so I didn't refit the DVO Topaz. Then you came along (I think).
