Hello, I got a much needed new xt rear mech, and new bearings on main pivot and rear axle (trek rail), they were both pretty much seized, and it has made the bike feel like new. Also got a couple of sets of brake pads.

Hey, no dissing the TurboHearse! It's taking some getting used to after the 5er but it does light up the rear tyres nicely.

The first couple rides after installing AXS shifting, I was happy with the shifter paddle. After all, when the thumb is on the paddle, just a little movement up or down with actuate the switches. After a couple rides, it became evident that to actually get the thumb on top of the shifter paddle requires quite a bit of movement.

I installed this "upgraded" paddle. It might seem retrograde to install a paddle that is shaped like a mechanical shifter, but I like it better. To hit the little shifter, which I have set to downshift, requires only a little movement of the thumb. To hit the bigger paddle, less thumb movement is required than on the original paddle. I'm liking it better.

Depending on how risk averse you are, I would highly recommend swopping your ground anchor for the Oxford Anchorforce. I have two of them, and with the additional security they have (double skins, ball bearings hammered into top of bolt heads then steel plugs hammered in on top) theres no way they are coming free without a big fight.

I had to look up the Anchorforce. It reminded me of the two deadmen I put at the back of my garage. The driveway is sloped, and sometimes I want to drag giant machines up the hill. The angles are 6" x 4" x 1/2", and the four anchors are 1/2". Cost was zero. If the interest was in security, the threads could be made permanent by beating on them with a sledgehammer, or with just a small tack weld. For locking, a big eyebolt could be added.

Yep that looks well stout! But the thing I liked about the AnchorForce was that the fixings can't be reached at all by a cutter. And to get through the case you would have to make 4 long cuts, 2 for the outer skin and 2 for the inner. Truth be told I think it would be easier to cut the chain, depending on how stout it is of course. But decent chain is a LOT of money.

Scrotes will get through anything if they want it bad enough, but I guess all we can do is make it as time consuming and noisy as possible.

A new back wheel - Evans sale - Hope pro4 straight pull 32h, on the enduro rim, and a V4 caliper, also in Evans sale. I think I got the last of each. Wouldn't let me buy 2 calipers, and now there's none left, and also none left on the wheels. Wheel is 142mm, so Ive had to buy a 142-148mm boost conversion kit, but that's only an extra £25 so still a really good price.

Went through a bit of a drought for a few weeks there, but back on track and still a few bits to get.

Ordered this a while back and finally got round to fitting, a joint Kiox and Edge mount made by eBay seller esale.nokseqw on eBay

I sent him my idea through eBay messenger, quick communications and a few days later he had a 3D image mocked up, confirmed sizing etc, and here’s the finished piece

I’ve cleaned up the 3D printed finish and then put some matte black vinyl over the top that I had lying around, just to nicely clean it up…

What kind of a jerk would break into my garage and cut the chains that I use to hoist big engines up the driveway? That just seems mean and completely unnecessary. My bikes just sit on racks in the middle of the garage, or in front of the house on the tailgate of the truck before a ride, and I never saw a need to bolt them down to anything. If I go out to lunch after a ride, and won't be able to see my truck from the restaurant, I'll run a cable through the frame and lock it to the bed of the truck. Is rampant eMTB theft really a thing?

Anyone that steals a bike is a jerk, and worse! Bike theft is a big thing in the UK, probably because the Police don't seem to care (that really is mean) unless a whole container load gets knicked or a whole shop load gets stolen (yes both happen too)! So yes, rampant emtb theft is really a thing!

In the UK, anyone who leaves a bike in plain view and unsecured is asking for it to be stolen, and mostly it will be! People seem to make a living out of bike theft. At my nearest trail centre, thieves turn up dressed as bikers and just ride off with one and put it away in a Transit van and then go back for the next one! You may have seen the occasional post on here about a bargain emtb seen on eBay, where the seller doesn't seem to know what model of bike it is let alone what size. Bike theft is a real thing and no mistake, sadly.

The only time my bike is out of my sight is when it is very securely chained to the floor of my secure garage. By "chain" I mean a Gold Secure chain by Kryptonite, designed to resists saws and grinders, although it only slows people down and does not defeat them. It is secured to a Kryptonite ground anchor by a Kryptonite lock (all Gold Secure). The photo below is of my last bike, but I use the same method on my current bike. Except I now thread the Kryptonite braided cable through the forks, not just the wheel.

If you are untroubled by bike theft, then you are a lucky guy.

That's completely contrary to what we're fed by the media over here. All we know about is Kate, William, crumpets, and croquet. When visiting your country, everyone was friendly, and no one ever tried to rob me. Regardless of what side of the pond we're on, fear of the police and common citizens is the only thing that keeps the crooks in check.

Our cops are fairly proactive where I live. A couple months ago some skeevy door-to-door salesman came around. He didn't seem right, so I told him he needed to leave the neighborhood. When he balked, I told him there were two choices: leave now, or the police would be called. He chose the latter. It only took a couple minutes for a black and white to roll up. After a brief discussion with the "salesman" and his buddy, the cop sent them on their way. I don't delude myself into thinking that the experience was enough to convince these guys to go out and get real jobs, but at least they're taking their business elsewhere.

Two weeks ago, just a mile from here, a cop spotted a car that he recognized from a previous encounter. He ran it through his computer and discovered the driver had an outstanding warrant. When the cop pulled the driver over, he tried to get away on foot. A scuffle ensued. An old man spotted the altercation and jumped into the fray to help the cop. The crook was quickly subdued. In other parts of the country, there might have been protests or other nonsense. But after it was all over, our District Attorney (the head prosecutor for the county) made a statement: “Here in Orange County, we do not tolerate violence of any kind and we support our police officers. If you attack a police officer, we are going to throw the book at you.”

I've just bought the 2nd V4 caliper i need. Why is it you get one thing at a great price, then are compelled to buy the other(if a pair) within a couple of days.
I'd 80 quid in the coin jar so i'm not going to notice the outlay as much.
Now just need a rear hose and a hope pro4 front wheel to complete the set

Life is too short not to buy the things you think you need.

I'm not too keen on that reissue porcupine. Those came out in i think 2019.
The originals cost at the time £14.99 each. I'd a set on a 2nd hand muddy fox i bought and rode for years but chucked them in the bin.
Now people are paying out £200 a pair of tatty 90's porcs that are dry,cracked and still falling to bits. I honestly don't know what people see in the original porcupine, they were totally rubbish.

But I suppose if you like them, and it's what you want, and you think they will look the dingos danglies, then who are we to judge

I just love the looks of the white Porcupines on the white S-Works - Can't wait for that special day in July when the Porcupines and I ride into the summer night

Finally managed to get my hands on a shimano centrelock rotor (xt) with magnet, so new rotors with galfer pads. Assegai 2.5 front tyre, DHR 2.4 rear, new dert tubeless valves and trying out the Orange tubeless sealant.
