I got tired of wiring so I drilled holes in the frame. I was able to change the head angle twice by combining head parts.

FYI, Linda reached out to me proactively on the motor covers. I got to be honest with you. I’m really impressed with this company and this relationship we have as a group with them. it’s been a lot of fun to have a partner on a DYI project. @mike_kelly I mentioned you to Linda and she knows you by name, pretty great.

Yet, Linda disclosed they knew the first motor guard (Gen 1) was really weak...it broke with their pro rider when he was testing the frame. He recommended the protective armor guard be used to help mitigate the material flaws. But they still launched with the error anyway.

This convo happened after the second Gen broke on me and after I strongly suggested to Linda that SZZS make a full carbon guard. And to boot with the 3rd Gen, they are not able to stress test it because their testing machine is "down". Then they want the consumer to pay for it rather than warranty it straight away. They're having consumers beta test it I guess? In sum, not so impressive on the motor guard, even a little unethical, but hey it's DIY.😒

I agree support has been good on my frame warranty replacement (which was damaged out of the box). 5 ⭐. They balked on my chainstay replacement and took some convincing 4 ⭐. 0⭐ for quality control on sending me the shorter main pivot bolt at the outset. And was luckily to have one fabricated locally rather than wait another 3-4 weeks for shipping the proper size. But again it's tough to ride without a working motor cover.

It also looks good on their new upper headset I just installed. It appears like an improvement that's far easier to set up, looks to be better sealed, and has a custom slot to fit the chunkier display plug. 4 ⭐ (I didn't bother with a warranty for a new display cable and old headset for sake of time).

Sorry to sound overly critical on this one. However, SZZS has failed fully so far on this piece of important bike protection. - 1⭐

Jus' say'n hoping Gen 3 plastic works, given absolutely no stress testing...🤞

Does somebody have noted the space avilable (the 2 width) for battery in frame ? I'm too lazy to remove motor to mesure 😪 700W was too much (18% for 1000 D+) i will never use more than 50%, i will be phisically HS before. I whould see to install 480 W (and win 1Kg)

Here are the measurements that Bafang provides for the BT014 in their catalog.
A=470 B=52 C=63 for the 43v

You should have the mounting plate for the frame to attach the battery.

The only thing I'll add is that you may want to use insolation foam, as the space between the interior of the downtube and the battery is roughly 20mm on all sides. Without the foam, you'll hear a rattle between the battery and cables within the downtube👍🏿

Thanks. that would mean that space availble is more than A=470 B=52 C=63, 54 X 65 ? I plan to insert battery whitout casing, only fixed upper and lower (alike i have done on the LCES1075), not verticaly along the diagonal tube.

In fact i have measured item build to support the battery, i have 80mm width between each motor fixing point (and more for the battery space). Enough to pass 75mm battery. It's that i wanted to know b efore ordering one.

also they are now offering new custom batteries from ZS. The BT 480 (48v) and the BT 410 (43v) for the CEF50.
Have you guys seen this? Looks like the same company.

I love my Shimano motor, I would be down for one of these in a heartbeat. I’ve actually got a request for a quote into Linda.

Is the EP8 a full 85Nm or the RS60? If the 85Nm I think I'd go with Shimano for more torque but lose the DIY repair...tradeoffs. Weight difference if full EP8 (2.7 kg) would be a minus (.882 lbs). but noise reduction on the ramp up for both Shimano is a plus. Although, the M820-75Nm (2.3 kg)is tolerable, be nice to have less whine.

Also, I noticed the frame has no extra power button hole in the top tube-bonus! 😉👍

My final analysis CEF50 V. CEF52: gain 10 Nm of torque but lose 90 Wh of battery juice and probably should buy a spare EP801 and spend an extra $800 plus an extender$?.

Cons:
❎ Gain 0.887 lbs
❎ Lose DIY serviceability, but buy another $800 buy spare motor
❎ 630 Wh battery, so lose 90 Wh and definitely need an extender or build a DIY 900-1000 Wh (maybe).

Pros:
✅ Gain back full power 10 Nm. This is worth 2 cons IMHO.💪

BUT CEF50 wins it for now...it's a pound lighter and would cost less ($1k+?) due to range extender and spare motor.🍻

Currently no Shimano batteries are available, but should be able to make a bigger 720Wh battery for the +10 Nm of torque.
