The bicycle industry is suffering right now. We'll probably lose some companies and shops. Specialized just laid off a bunch of employees. They have a butt load of Levo SLs. Tomorrow this post is 13 months old. I'm out!

How do you know this?
Because Rob did a video interview with specialized about the release of the SL and it was stated in that video that the next gen SL motors would fit previous models.

Video was removed. All the people who watched that interview would back this up. If you didn’t watch the live interview then you wouldn’t of known. Rob removed it pretty quick.

If you didn’t watch the live interview Rob rides did with specialized then you won’t know as Rob removed it shortly after filming. I’m assuming spesh messed up by saying this.
From what I remember they said a few things in the video which shouldn't really have been discussed openly in public, hence the removal.

It will be unfortunate if the motor isn't backwards compatible as the design team were, in fairness, quite passionate about this being the new norm.

I know of two development motors out in the wild that fit the current frames. One is definitely in a KSL, I think the other is in an LSL. Of course, that could mean eff all and the delay might be down to Spesh deciding not to make the new motor backwards compatible necessitating the design of a new frame.

I don't doubt you at all. It might have been Specialized that had it removed. Hence the long amount of time. I've worked for a bike company and everything is hush, hush. It was actually in my contract for me to keep my mouth shut.

Once I made a suggestion to the boss. He said he'd been thinking about that same thing. He told me "build it, test it and get back to me". I couldn't tell anyone or ride with anyone. I did ride it with two trusted buddies.

Spesh need to wake up
The SL is, for me, THE most beautiful bike I’ve seen. In the orange red colour. Test rode one. Liked it, but the power was …. For me, pathetic. Especially for the money, and knowing the rise figures. I have a rise now but that bike still calls me.

But also Specialised need to move away from Brose I won’t buy that motor it’s riddled with flaws. Although having said that, if they develop it further and get the bugs out then…. I do object to manufactures making customers pay for R and D it’s a pish take

I love it when someone with a Shitmano motor slags off the reliability of the Brose. :ROFLMAO:

Don't get me wrong, it is fucking woeful, but at least it's repairable.
Oh a pissing contest. Ok. 4 e bikes in our group.
Two levo 4 new motors between them one needs re start to clear a sensor fault. Tother often refuses to charge fully
One ep8 same motor
One older e 8000 same motor

Nothing is is bomb proof but opps me.

It’s a massive shame as the brose is much easier to peddle off or above the assistance ime

You are so happy with your bike that you need to contribute to this thread…something wrong with your self. Please investigate with your psychologist
Oh grow up. What would you do with that evidence? Brand loyalty. Why? It just puts prices up. I wanted a Bosch c4 when I started looking but they were all too heavy

The SL motor is developed and manufactured by Mahle, not by Brose.
This ^.
What Slurette said.

Pay attention.

We're talking about the new SL, not the FF Levo. BTW, 5000+ miles on my SL. Had one motor malfunction at 2000 miles. Had a new motor installed in less than 2 weeks, been going strong ever since. And my motor doesn't rattle like a claptrap.

If the new bike is announced in May or June, it will not be released until Fall, or early winter. It will follow the same predictable model of 12 to 15k USD to launch, then follow a lower cost model 3-6 months later. It will have many cool features such as smaller or larger battery option, adjustable geometry, and possible other chunks of groundbreaking features. Problem is that Orbea is mostly there already. So expect the masses will get a hold of this new SL in affordable fashion fashion in 12 months. Sad but true. Why not just get the new Rise for 5k USD and keep your full fat?
