Impossible to do it with software . It will be a new motor and maybe just maybe it can be switchable to the older frames of the SL . So it may look the same but the internals of different .
Who knows I only know they are bringing out a mid power bike .

It would make no sense to not do it with a software upgrade. Otherwise It would mean that the Kenevo SL would be outdated after just one year since its release. I don't think Specialized would want to kill it so soon.

I doubt the SL is being maxed out at present, but more amps will make more heat and also put more stress on the nylon gears so it may not be up to it. Spesh are just going to use their Brose Levo motor and de-tune it

I'm pretty sure the battery cells can put out the extra peak amps needed for a higher torque, it's down to whether the motor can still stay reliable.

It won’t be software if it was software that would of done it ages ago . Creo was released 3 years ago with same motor . All I know is it’s mid powered around 50/60 with new battery .

Well I’m 90% sure it is otherwise they would of done it when the Orbea rise was released . The Creo is now 3 years old with said motor. The way the motor works with the battery i don’t think it can be done . It will be a new motor and a little heavier maybe .

There is no way the SL battery can pull double the amps needed to increase Torque of the motor to 60nm. It will be unstable and overheat .

There was a video when the sls were released where @Rob Rides EMTB was talking to specialised SL designer (forgot his name) and he said new upgraded motors would fit current frames . But pretty sure that video was pulled from robs rides you tube channel .

I'm pretty sure that if you could change the controller inside the SL motor or even change it's set limits you would be able to get more power from the motor... but as I've said, it would make it less reliable and more amps would mean more heat and more torque on the nylon gears. but that would be DIY territory and not a manufacturing giant. The battery could easily give more amps if needed. The downfall would be a battery that last less time.

I remember that.. updates would be backwards compatible. thats not really the case with what weve seen so far in regard to the mastermind though, thats not backward compatible.

ok so youre guessing a bit then.. it seems a reasonable guess but it would be great if the SL was 'upgradeable' to bring it in line with the rise. its the only reason ive not bought a KSL - the lower power.

Jesus, how shit a cell did they use in the pack? The motor currently only pulls about 6 or 7 amps at peak power...... which will be for a very short time

I believe the 500's use the 18650, the 700's use the 21700 and no idea what the SL uses but it will be lithium and it will certainly be capable of higher discharge rate than that. although I guess that depends on the construction of the battery and the voltage it runs at etc.. I dont know these things so ill shut up now

If each parallel cell is discharge rated for 5 amps then the pack should be able to discharge at 10 amps constant. Peak amp discharge could be nearly twice that.

Sounds right to me, although I would have expected Spesh to use 3500mAh cells rather than 3300mAh for a little extra capacity with no weight penalty. I wonder if there's space in the frame for a pack made of 21700? That could be a 480Wh pack, but there would be a significant weight penalty.

Despite being a lazy fat knacker the lower power isn't the handicap I thought it would be and the light weight on the descents is worth the extra effort required on the climbs.

correct.. no one rides them, apart from me.
and the motorbikes... and some of them cant get up the hills

I’m very close to pulling the trigger on a KSL, so this info does not help my indecisiveness!

I just really can’t see Specialized doing this so soon after the KSL release unless it is a) a simple firmware update or b) a fully backwards compatible drop-in motor that could be offered as an upgrade for current SL owners.

Anything else would have a dramatic impact on KSL sales only a year into the (typically 3-year) product cycle and leave a real sour taste in the mouths of many owners.

Given their deliveries are so appalling, there is little value in announcing new models they wont deliver. It will only lead to more irritation ... they need to fix the problems they have not create new ones.

BH wrongly communicated specs, purposely or not…
Best built is in fact 18.7kg. So it’s more 19kg than 16kg… However this bike seems promising.

For Spesh, I wonder if they would really bury the SL range so fast… I want evidence
