First thing I replaced was that dropper lever with a WolfTooth from my previous bike. I have no issue with it & the Bonty seatpost, works fine. Lever is fiddly to fit tho.
I tried my old OneUp seatpost with a shim but felt it wobbled quite a bit so refitted Bonty.
Interesting. Which brand shim did you use? I bought a Cane Creek one and mine is perfect and stayed put perfectly for its first ride this eve. My Bonty did not go up and down quickly either. IDK why, I was hoping to not have to swap it out. I also installed a better quality cable, which may have helped. I like the shimano shifter cable.

I changed the stock lever on my 9.7 out for a Wolftooth immediately. It was pretty awful, and a shame to need to change out a contact point on a bike that costs this much. My post slid down in the the seat tube until I got the shop to put some grippy paste on it, but I have been pleasantly surprised by my apparently cheap post.

I too got the same ones and have ridden them for around 10 hours. I was surprised how good they felt. Like you said, better on body mechanics - especially on my knees (I am only 5'10). Climbing is easier, especially when you need to get power down, jumping is also better - more pop (even with me running a coil).

What shock did you install? is anything special required to have the shock installed?

Hey guys! Quick question, since the prices are pretty good rn with the current 'TrekFest' sales and I'm about to pull the trigger on a fuel exe. What's the general opinion about the wired axs battery? I assume that I can't shift when I want to ride the bike without the battery?

If you want to ride the bike without the main battery you are going to need an axs battery to change gear. I always carry one anyway in case I run out of main battery. You'll also need a ziptie or tape to hold the wire out of the way.

I'm sure it was not updated when I left the shop as it came in its box.

But I have ridden it 3 months with no issues.


I have it all re assembled now so I'd say you are right.

Back to the shop it goes. I'll keep ye posted once I know
Well bike is back and running a treat. Faulty battery by all accounts.

Onto the next issue. The bike won't connect to the trek central or TQ app.
Both apps recognise the bike but won't connect??

Aight cheers, not too much of a fan having to ziptie the battery dummy to the frame in that case. Guess I'll go with AXS regardless and just remove the cable so I can use the normal battery. Cheers

I have been contemplating removing the cable & just using the axs battery but I never seen to get around to it 😖

Upgraded to 155mm cranks.
Used the opportunity to also change the chainring. Following some recommendations, changes to xsync chainring paired with xo1 chain.

Pedal strikes are definitely lessened.

Went from 32t stock to 34t. This actually balances the change in crank length nicely.

Added bonus, a quick hack to make lubing the chain easier

Yup my LBS have said Trek have not really been open to what is going on with the bike and have said they want to take the components apart from the bike. However I have told them I am very reluctant given that I have only used it a couple of times and also with the money spent etc.

I have uploaded a video with the warning error on the TQ screen which has now made the fuel exe useless. My LBS has said they have run out of options to fix it however they need to wait for Trek to give them the go ahead to replace it.

This happened to me yesterday. I lost assist and the "WRN 601 SPD SENS" message scrolled across the screen. A bit later I got assistance back for a few minutes before the error message popped up again.

It appears the speed sensor cable is missing a zip tie and it is wedged between the swingarm and the motor. I'm guessing the wire wasn't hitting the tire while I was riding out of the trail do to suspension sag but It might have gotten snagged over some jumps we hit. I'll update this post when I know more.

Here a few pictures. The muddy tire is my bike. The clean tire is a my wife's bike for reference.

Reading thru this thread, the first thing I did when I got mine was use small wire wrap on those wire/cable to keep them out of harms way. I need to keep check on it. It could be vulnerable.

Otherwise, I will say this bike is exactly what I was looking for in an ebike. I keep it in Eco 99% of thr time, at the lowest assist and have no issue riding with non ebike's. Also, I still have to put in the effort and have boost when I get sapped.

@ohiomoto - We often run wide tires so I used a zip tie to hold the sensor and brake cable against the left chainstay and out of harm’s way. No issues after over 1400 miles.

Here’s Mrs levity’s 9.7 with a Maxxis 29x2.8 Rekon tire in back

Am I missing something? There's no way to confirm what firmware versions there are on the bike? The TQ app has no data for the fields and I can't find any version info the Trek Central app? My LBS said the updated the bike to the latest firmware but it doesn't include ANT+ connections to the bike (from the bike work fine).

The 29x2.8 is a pretty close fit, only about 8mm clearance to the chain stays. It’s fine for dry or sandy condition. I tried A 29x3.0 and could not squeeze it in. 😂

Here’s my 9.7 with a 29x2.6 Purgatory in back. Plenty of clearance. Zip tie keeps the brake housing and sensor cable safe.

I am all about a ziptie and macgiver'ing something, I wonder if there is large enough cable wrap to make a couple loops and look slick, like a solid wrap...at least a ziptie won't show up much on my smoke frame. Haha

Zip-ties are great for holding back those cables …however they may wear into the paint or carbon after awhile. (Ask how I know).

The rear lower triangle of my Rail 9.7 was worn to the carbon filter when a mechanic thought it would be a good idea to tie back my brake line with a zip-tie. The LBS replaced the lower triangle at their cost.

I use zip-ties for fenders or cables, but I wrap the frame part with soft Velcro first then add the zip-tie.

Seems to help.

I also use 2.5 x 29” Maxxis Assigia on the Fuel EXE.

if you have the very latest firmware installed on the motor etc, then you can use the tq app to see the versions, but if you have any earlier versions of the firmware installed the TQ app doesnt show the versions

Thanks, Even though my LBS said they updated it to the latest version, they clearly haven't. Something to make sure they do on the first service.

Anyone here with the latest TQ firmware installed and a Garmin watch?

I recently bought a Forerunner 265 mainly for biking. I would be cool to also get the power meter readings, when running the E-MTB activity. In theory the data is already availalbe, as I can see my own input and cadence on the TQ display. In the Garmin connect app, I only get battery usage and assistance levels. (with are wrongly numbered btw).

So is this possible now with the new firmware?

You have to add Fuel as a separate sensor (power in this case, same for cadence) otherwise as an „enike” it reads only speed distance and battery usage (level of support - by the way all max out and app shows level 7)

I rinsed the mud off of the bike and the cable was definitely pinched. I left the wire as pictured and took it the shop. They extracted the cable and it was damaged. Trek is covering the speed sensor.

can anyone tell me how to remove the cranks and chainring from the 9.8 with sram gx axs t-type setup? the Xt setup is definitely different than this one that I'm getting next week. I apparently need to remove the crank and chainring so that I can apply ride wrap.
What tools do I need?
