We rode “Metal Masher”, a gnarly 4x4 trail near Moab, two years ago.
Mrs levity suggested that we “try it again” this year.

Another excellent ride out today on a route mapped by @The Hodge. Myself, Neil and Jaco covered 24 mile and almost 3100ft of climbing in Upper Weardale in the North Penines.
The loop from Cowshill to Ireshopeburn took us out and back via the Burnhope Reservoir was a brilliant ride. What a bleak and desolate place this is scattered with the ruins of old lead mines long since worked out. It was cold and windy but a ride I’ll defiantly do again…..thanks to Neil and Jaco for their company and craic and again to Neil for a well earned pint of the black stuff on the way home.
A couple of pics of my two riding buddies almost at the top of the climb out of Cowshill

Completed the ride well into the last power bar ..and missed out another small off-road climb out of St.Johns Chapel but the ride we did was more than enough with the windy conditions ..😁

A favourite route of mine.
Starting at Helwith Bridge (another free car park!) Anticlockwise direction towards Littondale. Climb back up and onto the bridleway towards Horton in Ribblesdale.
A quick tea and bun stop at a cafe then head out towards Ribble Head, then turn off up on the Pennie Bridleway.
Great views all around before a thumping descent towards Clapham.
Final offroad section at Wharfe is really worth searching out, a piece of Yorkshire 'slickrock' leads to a snaking section of singletrack wedged between 2 drystone walls, it's brilliant!

As an aside, our family tree has my families ancestors (The Foster's) from the 16th through to the 18th century living in and around Clapham, and buried in St James churchyard at the bottom of that descent. Small world. Now in Helmsley... even smaller world.

Clapham is an excellent place as is Helmsley 👍
