I'll take a guess at a piece of Via ferrata.
Like this? Hmmm 🤔, makes sense.

Had a fab day with one of my sons at Willingen Bike Park, which also hosted the Bike Festival with 40.000 visitors last weekend. While the Enduro and Downhill lines were closed for official races, there was still plenty of space and fun on the (really flowy) flowtrails.
We finished the day with a quick side trip for an ice cream by the famous Eder dam. ;)

The Eder dam. You can still see, where the bomb hit in 1943.

Returning to California from Utah’s Canyonands/Moab area last week mrs levity and I visited Capitol Reef Natl Park. There aren’t any singletrack mtb trails but there are scenic dirt roads, hiking trails, and geological features. The Park “reef” follows a monocline where tectonic plates uplifted several thousand feet of sedimentary rock layers which have eroded over time. The highway on the park’s east side exposes ~200 million years of geologic history in a 15 mile stretch.

First some hiking pics –

😀it about 3km from home as the crow flies but the river is in the way so it’s more like 13km. Sadly it’s virtually all on the road. Worth the trip today all the same

The day started well meeting at Colin's place near Alnwick for a country /coastal ride..which was a little naughty in places..
All of these countryside pics are on legal bridleways ..

The following pics on the beach just north of Alnmouth ( if you were thinking of a holiday in Northumberland this year ..think again as you can see the beaches are crap & totally overcrowded and to be fair we could do without you clogging up our roads 😉)

Shortly after this disaster struck for yours truly when my cassette fkd up ..(the second one in as many months ..) so a bit of a walk along the coastal path to Boulmer where I was able to call a taxi to take myself and the bike back to Colin's house...
Needing to get to the bottom of the problem I drove straight to my LBS at Kielder who was totally baffled ... but has a number of questions for Whyte on Monday ..
My day was about to get worse as Ian ( the LBS owner) ..said he had a new ebike and would I like to give it a spin ..after feasting my eyes on this beauty ..how could I resist..😁

As you might imagine it handles and corners like an ocean cruise liner..which I found to my cost when I tried to turn too sharply on a loose gravely corner and washed out ...it felt like my leg twisted through 180 degrees and I'm now the proud owner of a very swollen knee & ankle with what feels like ligament damage ...
Hope my chums had a better time completing the ride 👍

A very different ride out today, not the usual hills and valleys but a ride along the bridleways and coastal paths between Alnmouth and Craster this time the route penned by @Cebeem.(Colin)
So Colin lead Dave, Neil nd myself (just like the spice boys) set off onto to some great singletrack and bridleways that eventually lead us to the coast and on to the sands. 92924C5A-9650-47A0-BE2F-D169B08CEDE6.jpeg 2B0E69AB-CC51-4B2A-A7F0-2A7D6EDE259D.jpeg CFC5166C-8833-4C76-9A88-E87F34A3BB2B.jpeg

Then catastrophe stuck and the four became three…….the cassette and freehub on Neil’s bike gave up the ghost which meant he had to get a taxi (along with his bike) back to his car bummer. So Colin,Dave and myself finished the rest of the ride saddened at Neil’s loss.
And the there were 3

That’s a view of the ruins of Dunstanburgh castle, north of Craster.
A stunning silhouette against the horizon.

Another extended loop of Rivington, Winter Hill, Witton Weavers Way, Roddlesworth Woods, Darwen Hill and Jubilee Tower and all the way back again! Just over 26 miles, 4000ft and just shy of 2000kCals... Plenty left in the batteries on the Rise too. I take the extender on these runs as insurance but finished with 30 Eco miles range (16 Trail).

Winter Hill Northern Side.jpg

Winter Hill's northern flank with the San Marino descent just visible as the diagonal line from the main mast, leftwards to the edge just above the trees.

Rise and Jubilee Tower.jpg

Finally they are almost finished after 12 months of having Jubilee Tower covered with scaffolding and tarps. Looks like they've done a half-decent job on the restoration... The spaceship/phallus (*delete as applicable) is back.

The route...
