The stock brakes on the SL that people are unhappy about are the Guide Rs - newer bikes are coming with REs, and they're a completely different proposition.

I've got REs myself, and - once I'd bedded them in properly, as per the official instructions - I find them to be every bit as strong and reliable as the Maguras and Shimano XTs on my other bikes. They feel different, but that's not the same as worse. and I actually prefer them to the XTs.

Guide RE are essentially codes . Great stopping power

the Guide R were garbage. Mine actually failed within a few weeks. Replaced with MT7 which were great, but could never get the lever feel I wanted with the stock levers. Went with xt levers to make a “shigura” setup, and it’s dialed! Great power, great modulation and consistency now

Exactly. I find the modulation they deliver to be really good, too.

They certainly feel different to the Maguras and XTs on my other bikes, but none the worse for that.

I prefer the RE's over Code R also. They seem to have a far superior feel.

When I can afford it I'll change out for some Shimano's or Hope..MT7's are awesome but they suffer from pad alignment issues and make an annoying noise..

I fiqured I would change the Sram Code R pads to resin after all the negative comments. I broke them in properly and now have one finger braking equal to my XTRs !? Unless they brake ,I don't see what all the fuss is about. Same with a properly dialed stock rear shock and fork. The stock Turbo Levo Sl to me is a intended XC bike not a DH or Huckster.

I agree on intended use. It makes a great trail bike and takes the edge off long or steep climbs. I’m loving mine. Just fun to ride and at 36lbs, not too heavy.

2021 Fox 36 (the latest upgrade) @ 160. New glossy finish goes perfect with the frame.

Gradient bars (I know they're heavy, but very comfortable for me.

Different seat (I forget the model)

Sweet original NW Cup art fender from Dialed MTB. (I might be a little biased.

Also lucky enough to have a Levo Expert Carbon. Love them both but every time I ride the SL I like it just a bit more. I think the best power comparison is to tune one of your levels on a full power Levo to; Support 90%/Peak 45%. I may be wrong but that should limit things to about 240 watts total.

Thanks take a look at my pic and you will get the idea. Common sense stuff. I also saved 7 oz deleting the Swat tool holder and plastic wb holder. Full carbon, light tubeless tires and no dropper ( I have had many and can't get used to it) with light wheels and fork make a tight XC machine.

Another question I had for the forum is if you can remove the handlebar remote and run the SL without one. I don't see myself switching modes all too often and don't really need walk assist. Think I'd be fine hitting that button in the middle if I need to go turbo. Let me know if this is possible or even a good idea at all.

I can’t imagine not having it there. I use mine constantly, and will range through all four settings dozens of times each ride.

Me too. Even though I'm in one mode >85% of the time, I can't seen any advantage - apart from change for the sake of it - in removing the bar remote.

it's the aesthetic i think , some people are into clean lines etc, i don't mind it because i don't really look at the handlebar much. New cars,though, with all the screens drive me nuts

Yeah, I like clean lines myself, but I think the Specialized remote is a neat, clean, aesthetically satisfactory solution, so I struggle to find a reason to object to its presence on those grounds.

To each his own, I suppose.

The swap over just took a couple of mins. Pull the original dropper out, and unscrew the clamp on the cable. Remove the remote from the bar, and just pull. The cable pulls out of the routing sleeve with minimal effort.

The one thing you lose by removing the remote is walk mode. I need that on one of my rides so the remote will stay.

Ha. Yeah I guess that would work too but would also turn off the cadence/power/speed sensors if you use those, and tracking via the MC app...

Took my Levo SL out for the first time this weekend. What a blast. I have access to so many more trails now from my house in the same time.

On my comp carbon - I was planning on getting new suspension and drivetrain before I rode it. I was actually surprised at how good the Fox 34 felt on the front. I may ride it through the fall. The rear shock was so so. I am spoiled by PUSH suspension on my other bike, so that is what I am comparing it to.

NX Eagle - I was not impressed as much by this. I have a mixture of GX Eagle/AXS on my other bike and it has been flawless for 600 miles. The NX Eagle had a few issues on gears jumps. I have an old 12 speed GX Eagle derailleur that I may swap out and see how that works.

All in all it was my first real E bike ride. I did an 18 mile loop with 3,600 of climbing. Did trail mode most of the time and boost on some of the steep climbs; 15% battery remaining. Got an incredible workout and I am glad I went with the SL instead of another e bike.

YES you can remove it but you will only save 35 grams ? Having that switch at my disposal is must to ride single track and sudden hills quickly....

The NX eagle on mine to be honest is flawless if maybe a bit clunky, it could just be how the shop set it up, my other bike has X01 and is quieter when shifting but I expect the extra torque from the motor doesnt help

Anyone here with a 2021 Levo SL with the stock DPX2? I'd like to know what the tune ID is for that shock. Planning to send in an aftermarket DPX2 to Fox to have it tuned. They are hard to get a hold of. Thanks.

Fox will have the code in their system. Have you had trouble getting it from them?
