Not much point buying a light chain for an ebike. I use SRAM NX, they work great and last ages. Alternatively, your basic KMC chains or their e-specific variants.
I too have been impressed with GX. I am at 4000 miles and keep thinking i need to change it but its still working okay. Maybe a bit clicky clicky. But shifts well and more importantly no slipped chains.
The last new chain took quite a while to bed in. I think that’s when I’ll know its time to...
If this was the early naughties, every time we visited EMTB Forum we'd see a dozen pop-over ad windows for HARDCORE bike porn.
*click* *click* *click* before my boss sees me looking at pictures of BARELY LEGAL Chinese e bikes.
Google has a virtual monopoly on serving ads to websites, the other players aren't much better. They've all allowed ads to run that are click-baity, dishonest and exploitative. It's a race to the bottom of the bottom. I'd go as far to say Google ads are worse than Facebook, so there's an...
Bosch Gen2 Perf Line CX - Grinding bearings after 3000 miles. replaced.
Bosch Gen2 Perf Line CX - Fine for 1000 miles to point I sold it.
Bosch Gen2 Perf Line (non-CX) - Clanking at 1500 miles, think drive side bearings have gone.
Mahle (Levo SL) - As noisy as ever, but just about to hit 4000 miles.
Hiplok Z Lok Combo (the thick zip tie with a combo lock) is in my bag at all times for *very* brief, still-in-view, stops at cafe's in relatively safe locations.
I do wonder if a small cheap padlock to the disc rotor is a good idea, just enough to stop a ride-off theft...
The rest of the time...
True! Does that make it a win-win situation? :)
Every time i decide not to use my bike because I am worried it might get stolen, I die a bit inside. And yeah I have had bikes stolen and it feels horrible. But on balance I’ll keep using my bike. I’d rather win 99.99% of the time. Don’t live in...
Because then they've won. Not going to let a small number of thieves dictate where I can and can't leave my bike. I'll take precautions, use good locks, get insurance... But I'll be damned if I am going to change my behavior for anyone.
Stuff the demands for more people to start a fight when...
It's a toxic mix. First we're all angry about bikes being stolen. Then it heats as the 'smart' people and the 'tough' guys disagree over response. Then people call out other people's experience of power tools. If this was 12.30am down the kebab house it would've been a brawl.
It's obvious to me...
Sh*t happens. We don't live in a utopia. Or a police state. So buy good locks. Get insurance. Try to be zen about these things.
I would gladly spit in the face of any bike thief. But they're not worth all this raised blood pressure.
Thank god for Rob's video. Of course when I wanted to clean up the cranks the first thing i did was take the lock rings right off. Then I am staring, confused, at the bolts, trying to work out how my crank extractor would work...
Looks like they have been importing 'no name' brands for a while and now have a distribution deal where they are using their own brand. So, yes, I assume it's all coming out of the same factory.
But it's A Good Thing to have a Wales-based business sourcing parts and hopefully putting them...
Canyon have a published crash replacement policy. It's just a discount on their list price, for a few years after original purpose..
Probably one of the reasons they're reasonably cheap bikes.
Ibis are more generous. "Minimal charge" to replace a crashed frame, for life.
Probably one of the...
Another failed attempt to use my two Range Extenders...
I expanded last year's 60 miler to a 85 mile gravel route (OS Map).
That 60 miler was meant to be my two-range-extender ride. After all, I had invested in two to give me 640 Wh, comparable to most other eMTBs out there. It wasn't needed...
I guess at an actual cycle center the cafe could be inundated by people looking to use their few spare sockets. Can i have a go now. Hers has been charging for 20 minutes already. No that's my charger, that one there. Etc. Easier to say 'no' and focus on delivering the carrot cake and...
