Why on earth would you leave that locked up and expect it to be there later on, especially in London.

Because then they've won. Not going to let a small number of thieves dictate where I can and can't leave my bike. I'll take precautions, use good locks, get insurance... But I'll be damned if I am going to change my behavior for anyone.

Stuff the demands for more people to start a fight when they spot a theft. What I demand is more people being brave enough to use their bikes. Safety in numbers.

i see your point however I would have thought them having your bike would also count as them winning. Their aim surely isn’t to scare us into not leaving bikes around, isn’t it to ignore any sense of morality and just steal stuff for profit?

True! Does that make it a win-win situation? :)

Every time i decide not to use my bike because I am worried it might get stolen, I die a bit inside. And yeah I have had bikes stolen and it feels horrible. But on balance I’ll keep using my bike. I’d rather win 99.99% of the time. Don’t live in fear*.

* Or London.

I don't even use a lock when I leave my Rail in public. Thieves really win when you have to use a lock. And getting insurance is playing right into their hands, just what they want you to do. They win double when you get insurance AND use a lock. Only way you can win is by them stealing your uninsured unlocked bike. True enough but sometimes it feels like the game is rigged.........

And don't even think about not living in the poorest, most crowded, crime riddenest part of the crime center of the universe. Not unless you are cool with handing THEM victory after victory.......
