I thought it was only a matter of time as the scum have been stealing Mx and enduro bikes like crazy. If I had a regular commute I would build a cheaper hub driven DIY ebike using some old 26 inch full suspension bike . Keep the nice purpose built bike for days off.
Ok thanks I'll look that up. Half my ride is tarmack/hard gravel and the other half is soft wet mud bog and wet slick hard mud so I'm struggling to find a tyre.
I'm not convinced on the plus tyres. They roll slow, scrape mud off the chain, hopeless in mud and cost a fortune. They are more comfortable but that is the only major benefit I have found although they do make it easier to ride up steps.
Best way is to have a car big enough to put the bike inside. I have been using a motorcycle carrier that bolts to the tow bar but I don't like using it.
I went for a 2.5 maxxis wet scream in the end. It does grip a lot better in the mud and climb's out or ruts better but doesn't work miracles in the bog. The size difference is not to bad either, radius is 7mm less than the minion plus tyre but I'm running it at 30psi so it probably works out...
I've seen neoprene covers for the motor but being a bit cheap I would just wrap an old towel round the motor and secure with a strap. For the display and battery I would remove them completely as it's so easy. Both my battery and display have damp/mist visible in them so they are not at all...
I've been wearing my RST summer mesh motorcycle gloves recently. They have a plastic knuckle guard that does a good job of keeping the thorns out of the back of your hand.
This bike is chronic for pedal strikes even with 160 cranks. It's better now with the ohlins but I don't want to go backwards with that. I'm happy with the 2.8 front but I need more pedaling grip.
Really a set of 29ers would fix it and make the front roll better but that's to spendy for now.
It's a KTM macina kapoho. I would like something narrower than 2.8. The first tyres were 3.0 nobbie nick and they suck, totally unpredictable and hopeless in the mud. Second tyres are 2.8 minions and they are much better but the rear blew up before it got really wet so I don't know what there...
Any suggestions? I'm thinking I could do with a narrower tyre with massive spikes.
My local loop is very wet and I'm struggling for grip in several places with the 3.0 Nobby nick. I had a minion but I would like something with more spikes because it's spinning up a lot.
I read loads of stuff and all said same as saddle or lower. I cut my steerer long just to see and its way more comfortable with the bars 20mm above the saddle. It may not handle as well but I can't tell.
I drilled out the rims on my bike. Presto valves are an unnecessary pita. Also you can't put slime in them, even if they are the type that screw together it still gums up the presta valve bit and they end up leaking.
