Holmbury Hill, Pitch Hill, Winterfold then beyond (west) to Blackheath is a big network of fire trails, and mostly sandy surface. Also look at the Downs Link, you could head south on that then double back from Cranleigh. It's been raining hard here since yesterday so I wouldn't expect this...

the battery mass is centred - good. but it's really high, no?

I wash the worst crud off my bike and lube the chain. Usually. When it's going to get filthy again within 5 minutes riding I don't see the point getting all OCD about it. Life's too short.
