Ride your acoustic lately? I did, this morning!

I’ve been riding this a lot the last few weeks, I’d actually converted it to electric last year using a TSDZ2 mid drive kit, but after I got the Jam2 didn’t seem sensible to keep it electrified so undid it.

I‘ve also fitted a dropper post and gone for a ghetto 1 x 9 setup (30T front and 11-40T rear), and switched out the Swinger rear shock, and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve had this bike over 15 years, can see me having it another 15 at this rate.

It does feel very light and chuckable after the Jam2, and just reinforces my view that all bikes are fun in their own way.

Ah yes, the good ol’ rim brakes! I remember mine fading completely to nothing when it starts raining but then begins to grab again somewhat when mud gets on the brake shoes. Then it turns into a grinding sludge that turns my rims into a dull grey paste! ??

Kids these days who’ve never used anything but zinging disc brakes, will never know the loud honking shrill of rim brake rub when they’re about to dry-out from being wet, haha! We’d hear other riders all the way from the other side of the valley! ? Fun times...

Week and a half now Riding daily on acoustic bike while I wait for derailleur hanger for ebike. Hasn’t been so bad actually. Ordered a 2020 Kona WOZO yesterday to replace my Epic Carbon hardtail that I sold last weekend so new acoustic gets here next Friday. Pic from yesterday on borrowed Trek Farley 5. The Farley absolutely rips for an inexpensive fatbike?

Just worked out it's been over 3 months since i took out my Emtb for a proper mtb ride.
I'm just loving riding my normal bikes far too much at the moment and the last few rides the Ebike would have been properly shit (Handbuilt push up downhill tracks that no Ebike could possibly ride up)
Pretty much just using the emtb for commuting and the odd ride to the shops just now (both of which do include some off road)

We have a nice local for my non electric bike. I ride probably 3 times per week. Repeated hammering of the local DH. Fire road climbs to the trail-head.

I rode a privateer 161 last week. Thought it was a nice enough handling enduro bike but found the seat tube angle completely whack for any riding on the flat. Feels like you're pedalling circles behind your normal efficient pedalling position. I can see the logic if all you do is ride up long climbs to access DH/Enduro tracks though.

The 161 is not for everyone. It is just a budget bike with a specific purpose.

I sold mine this week. It was sad to see it go, after all the adventures we’ve had but the $1100 was nice. Now the buyer is telling me that everything on the bike is worn out. Maybe I sold at the right time, but I definitely did not misrepresent anything about the bike. At least he hasn’t asked for his money back!

Way more IMO than most of the middle aged body armoured and goggled up fanny pack riders ever do now with their hugely moar capable modern Enduro/Ebikes.

I know you like your stereotypes and ageist comments but the people you describe might be the ones who were properly sending back 25 years ago. What motor/battery conversion kit did you use?

I have 3 different converted FS bikes. This one is a Titus Racer X 29 that is running 27.5 big tires, the motor is a tsdz2 with Open Source Firmware, which is very programmable. The feel is similar to the Levo, just not quite as refined. The battery is a 6Ah 52v pack, which gives me about 20 miles with the power levels I use. I can run a larger battery also if I want to but really for most of my rides I do not need it.

Having fun especially after putting on the magic marys, but can't wait to have some assistance to get up the hills!

Yes. My recent purchase of a Cube HPC TM140 even prompted me to upgrade my Whyte to a Canyon Neuron and I'm loving them both. Because fitness is important to be I try and stick to using the EMTB after I've "earnt it" with a ride on the clockwork. Lets see if that lasts

I had a bunch of regular bicycles. I sold them all. I have an e-bike for more than 3 years now and there is no way I will buy regular bicycle again. If I will buy new bicycles in the future all of them are going to be e-bikes. Thanks God e-bikes exist, now I look on those regular bicycles like on nightmare terrifying machines and I'm glad it is in the past.

I ride lots of different bikes, but at the moment on a daily basis I take my Cube Hyde out for a ride with the kids after lunch, and then my EMTB for a blast later in the day. The cube has a hub gear and Gates belt drive, and is truly silent, the only noise you can hear whilst riding it is the tyres rolling on the road. Very different bikes, as the Cube is about as simple as you can get outside of a fixed gear. Main difference for me between riding a normal bike and the emtb that I notice is the initial effort to get up to speed, or the cadence you want on a hill, and remembering not to be lazy with gear selection.

I like that cube , never seen that model , always fancied building something like that for touring trips but never get time for touring let alone building a bike . What’s the hub gear Rohloff?. Always wondered why they don’t get used on ebikes

Rock on my fellow riders. Dont get me wrong, I love eebs but sometimes you cant beat a regular (non-powered) bike.
FYI, Do we have to refer to them as acoustic bikes? Afterall, we dont refer to a non-electric toothbrush as acoustic ?
