Nice ride out of Allendale today with Wayne & Richy ..until it wasn't ( but that's another story 😁) ..
Known by us as "The Chimneys Ride" ..due to the still fairly intact aforementioned on the early part of the ride ..from the industrial lead mining days ..lovely weather to start with a freshening wind gathering pace toward the end ..
A few pics of Richy & Wayne strutting their stuff ..cheers for the ride & craic ..and for patching me up ..sorry we had to cut it slightly short 😉

Anyone ever ride their bike on those Cycle routes that incorporate those stupid choke points? one side is for bicycles and next to it is like a jump for horses to go across... bars too wide to ride through them .....

I went through about 6 of them today...
IMG_20230420_174135.jpg

Went up this hill for the view, that Viaduct I guess was at one point for trains but now it's just part of a cycle route
IMG_20230420_172124.jpg

Small lake but kinda scenic and nice

Was basically a touring style ride, but some of it was proper trail like, mostly just dusty cycle paths though.
37.3miles and still had 31% batter when I got back home :O kinda crazy, 750watt battery and Bosch CX in tour+ mostly but I did around 5 miles in EMTB/Turbo when it was a bit of a climb.

Mostly boring and flat

I actually fell off at one point and scotched the top tube of my bike a bit :( there was a steep hill heading down with 2 stupid posts either side of the narrow muddy path, then a stupid metal fence with a gap about as wide as a house door.. and you know what these 780mm wide bars do when you try and ride through... I was holding the brakes then did a benny hill fall to the side going about 1mph, couldn't put my damn feet down.. probably should have lowered the seat for the descent...
how some cycle routes are designed is just ridiculous. I'm talking proper cycle routes with signs telling you the destination as well... why incorporate so much anti cyclist crap on them?

You should get yourself to somewhere like Chopwell or Beamish Woods and ride some trails amongst the trees rather than touring around cycle paths 😀👊🏽

you never take a day off and just ride :p
I'm trying to get fit again too, I put a ton of weight on in this last year.
I should probably buy another gravel bike or a touring bike though

Picked up an old Raleigh Richmond at the tip today. Fairly sure it's '74 or '84.

Currently undecided whether to restore it, as it's relatively good just needing a new back brake, cassette, tires and tubes at the minimum could probably do with new gear wire and a headset clean. I would quite like to have a bike that's actually enjoyable to ride on roads, on the other hand I love the look of the frame, and the fact that it's British hand made steel makes me want to protect it lmao.

The frame already has a few spots of rust scattered about everywhere.

Sorry for the bad pics I'm currently in the middle of reorganization.

Been to Chopwell didn't know beamish woods had anything, I'll check google out sure some results will come up for it thanks.
I also need to lose some weight anyway so :p long rides are kinda good.
I had a gravel bike but got rid of it because it was getting old, I need to look for a proper touring bike or something for exploration days

So basically you did a loop incorporating the Derwent Walk ?
It's a multi user track formerly a railway line .. used by walkers , runners , horse riders & cyclists ..its not a dedicated cycle route ..and to answer the question at the end ..those obstacles aren't there to deter mtbs or any other kind of pedal bike ..but rather motorbikes ..who would have that track chewed up in no time..I'm not having a go at responsible trail bike riders ( I regularly ride emtbs with a couple ) ..but rather the arseholes who think every bit of dirt out there belongs to them ..and have no regard for the condition its left in ..Hope you had a nice ride anyway ..but yeah 1500ft of climbing over 37miles isn't exactly strenuous ..

Had a really impromptu day out, out of Allendale Town with @The Hodge and @Richywalker64 the weather was good if not a tad cool up on the tops some great singletrack, techy climbs and descents,
Good craic and a nice pint of the black stuff courtesy of Richy to finish off an eventful ride……just to rub salt into your wound Neil the real ale stuff you drink was on offer at £1.25p a pint.
No pic’s just the ride data.

I said it was basically a touring ride... you know like people do on touring bikes exploring the countryside.
next time I don't bother posting in here and I never claimed it was strenuous

Nearly every photos in this thread is not on an actual MTB trail.
it's not called "pics of your trail rides"

Seens as @RustyMTB is still recovering from his extensive penis reduction surgery (disguised as an appendicitis) more Focus pictures from the backup option ..

Always trees down ... ALWAYS !

No saw and too heavy to move so it can stay there for now ..

This one was more manageable :

The bike was shy though ..

Unlike @The EMF , I'm very sad to say there was no beer ..

I reckon the reason you crash so much is you've got very much the wrong idea in your head of what six inches looks like.😜

Don’t stop posting your pics and rides, variety is the spice of life as they say. It’s good to recognise places I’ve ridden before ( but not for a long time ) and it good that you take time out to post them.

Just a very short reminder that "Pic of the Day" is normally the one place where grumpy old men can get along in a peaceful and supportive way.

@Ark Don't take things to heart. You could easily take his comments a different way and respond accordingly.

@The Hodge If you were being mean, don't, I know you missed out on cheap beer. This is obviously incredibly upsetting for any tight bugger, but don't take it out on anyone here.

@Zimmerframe It's not obligatory to use the word "Penis" in every post. As ark says, the thread is called "Pic of the Day" not "Prick of the Day"

Carry on ....

I don’t think Hodge was complaining about your ride, but answering your question about the narrow gates on that route, put there to deter motorbikes

Chill.. man ..
The main point I was making was to broaden your knowledge of why there were so many obstacles on the Derwent Walk ..which you seemed to think had been put there just to spoil your ride 😉..
Rather than belittling your ride out..I was agreeing with you that it was a fairly flat ride ..with a gentle gradient ..I know the track well and used it quite a lot when my kids were little ( my sister lived just off it at Shotley Bridge for years ) ..the mileage you did was impressive though .
The last time I rode on it we saw a family of otters in the " lake " at Derwenthaugh which I found amazing being so close to a large urban area ( Gateshead ) ....and Red Kites are a common site on the section at Rowlands Gill.
Like I said in my original thread .." I hope you enjoyed your ride.." 😁
