How good is it that there are bikes different enough to suit people who are looking for different characteristics? Some categories are getting pretty uniform in their geo and dimensions, it comes down to suspension design to feel a difference. Ebikes are pretty diverse at the moment. Getting a test ride is the biggest challenge in making a decision.

Enjoy the Range, I'm sure it's great for what you're after!
It's very cool. You just want to ride them all if only you could maybe that grass is greener syndrome would be a thing of the past.
We have a chairlift access bike park here in chch and for riding the mixed trails to and from the park then hitting laps I've been really pleased with the Norco as it's generally the faster bike
Just not such a big fan of the shimano motor.
If only you could merge the 2.

Giant have a bad habit of baulking on frame warranties - at least their distributors in several markets do. Sometimes they just have to suck it up - kind of like 10/12 years ago when they had issues with Trance frames in XL. At my club we had 5 riders with them and every one of them had a failure with the seat tube welds. A couple had to lawyer up to get things resolved.
I had a failure on a carbon frame - was really a top coat issue where it came away. A F1 team mamber that does the CF work was visiting home while in the area for the Aussie GP and his brother got him to take a look for me - his opinion was that the frame had been handled without gloves before being top coated. Looking at the pictures the importer took trying to prove it was an impact actually showed when massively blown up that there was some sort of deposit unber the coat. Probably the peson that handled it had not put gloves on after lunch and a test of the deposit would prove it. Cost them a replacement bike as surprise, surprise that frame in Medium had so many issues that they only had SM & XL left worldwide.
I don't blame Giant - I blame the factory that makes their frames.

For frames, Giant can only blame themselves. I don't think Giant outsource any of their frame builds.

A mate has a c1 also and it’s a beautiful bike, it rips down our rough rocky terrain. I’m curious did you keep the old frame too?

No, the old frame is still at the shop with all the parts on it. Pretty sure the build starts this week.
I've told them not to rush as it's raining buckets for weeks here and trails will be closed and second bike to ride anyway.
Probably time to go skiing anyway.
When you put the 2 bikes side by side there is a clear winner in terms of styling and quality. Even the paint work is significantly nicer, you can see that the Norco is made as a premium product and the giant was price point. It shows in the finishing of it and the components used. But also as I've said.. It was almost double the price so I expect that.
For the money the giant is an amazing machine capable of anything. I still prefer the pace of the range as most of my friends are still on full dh bikes and the giant couldn't hang with them.... The range is right up thier arses..

Again this may differ between riders just my experience.

You sound like the type of guy always blaming his bike when not performing,...maybe you should get an S-Works Turbo Levo to truly embrace the premium eMTB life and stop complaining about everything.

It's just getting a little bit tiring to read that guy saying that the Reign E has cheap paint job, cheap looks, cheap components, bad suspension & makes him slow.

I believe the guy truly hates his Reign E and can now move on ;)
It's just someone's opinion for all the bad written I am sure you can find as much good for most bikes. (Just my opinion)

This is the joy of text. It can be taken any way your mood takes you.
As I've said the reign is an awesome bike for the money and I was head over heels with it until it failed.
After riding another bike and putting them side by side I can freely voice my opinion on some clear and obvious points that all my friends and myself can see.
I'm not complaining and my comments were not a complaint at all.
The reign is not cheap crap.
It's cheap and had some manufacturing issues that we are all dealing with.
As highlighted by other members, this may well be the prefect bike for many people and I do not intend to take away from that.
Sorry to have affected you negatively, not my intention.
You don't like what I've got to say that's fine, I've been giant through and through for all my life and still am, they are always the best value. That doesn't make them the best overall bike.
Just sharing my experience for anyone looking at buying a reign and stumbling
Onto this forum.

If you get offended at people giving their opinion that's on you. I rode them both though and he's 100% right, the Giant felt cheap compared to the Norco (That's because it is cheap compared..)
If someone rides the same tracks over and over and one bikes is faster, it's a good test. Sure riding style might be more compatible with a certain bike but again, it's just their honest opinion.
Is this an emtb forum or a Giant forum?, it's hard to tell sometimes.

Is the frame warranty only for the original purchaser? I see the odd reign being sold with very low riding and assume it’s fear of these cracks that maybe the reason. I’m keen to change from the trance to the slacker geo Reign and wonder if the good deals will bit me and I’m better going new after seeing this forum.

Unfortunately the warranty doesn't transfer. I have asked.
I would look at some other bikes also though.
If mullet is your thing the focus Sam looks legit with Bosch power plant fox suspension and Shimano brakes.
Also bro bikes in queenstown have the nukeproof megawatt pretty reasonably priced with great spec last time I checked.
This seems to top out many reviews
It's good value also at around 12k for both bikes.
I'd wait to see how the warranty frames last before going the giant route.
I've also been riding my wife's size small trance and love that bike on all but the steepest trails. It's pretty fun compared to the reign possibly due to its small size also.

No this is a giant Reign thread & he has time & time again moaned about his experience. We get it, he has had a bad experience & thinks they're cheap crap & lovves his Norco. Great! move on to the Norco forum or the general forum & share the stoke about them there and stop rubbing peoples noses in their bike choice. Some people don't have the luxury of being able to own two emtbikes at one time.
I don't have any skin in this game as I don't own a Reign & have absolutely no brand loyalty but have had really good experiences with Giant, I may get another in the future. I think it's bad form to keep banging on with the same sob story when the point was made many posts ago

It's a "Giant Reign Cracking" thread on an eMtb forum. They own a several Giants. Get a grip.

Just picked up my Bike at the LBS.
Replacement Frame is Phantom Green, but it comes without the battery compartement cover....so LBS need to order a new one too.
Frame looks a 100% the same as the old one around the filler area, and so do all other Reigns they have in stock.
So there is still no evidence that there are "new" Frames with a weld instead of the filler.

Anyway, I don't worry at all. If raised the filler issue with the LBS, and if there will ever be any issue they will sort it out with Giant.
All in all, I'm very happy with waranty and the service, and even more the new colour

I specifically said multiple times I don't think the reign is cheap crap and I also purchased 3 emtb this year 2 of which are giant but hey whatever you say is good.

Well, I'm keeping the old one for now.

But if anyone else will get a different colour on his replacement frame tell your dealer to order a new battery cover along with it so the colours are matching.

I got a call yesterday from my LBS. My frame will be covered under warranty. I took it to them on 12th July (see post #375), and got the call yesterday August 1st - exactly 14 business days later. Not too bad. Now to wait and see if it is green like everyone else's frame, and how long it takes to get here.
