• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

All the talk in my area states that the Bosch Gen 4 motors can handle being derestricted and easily surpass the factory 2 year warranty. Keeping moisture out is a bigger concern than derestriction. I've ran a CX Perf Gen4 motor with old Purion controller derestricted for a year now. 1500 miles in and not one code. Had the bike at 26-36 mph several times for several miles and have never had one single code. Speedbox 3.0.

1. better not, not before someone else dit sacrify himself to test
2. there is a version that enable you to finetune the predefined assistance modes (mine origianally did not had that option)
3. not able to use existing "tuners", Bosh is putting quite some efford in trying to discover "cheating". So using their app (gps) is not a good idea ...
4. as said, if you can get rid of the rim magnet, ie, enabling the traditional reed-switch (bike dealer), you will have much more options
Awesome
Thanks for the information mate.

I updated to the latest supported version 13.13.1 via the app. That unlocked the ability to fine tune the built in modes.

I will go for the speedfun rim magnet version.

With the rim magnet? If yes, can you share how speed box is making / generating the magnetic pulse?
Thanks
Mine is the old pre Smart system. The pickup is on the rear brake disc.

Was just wanting to give information about the durability of the Gen 4 motors. I wouldn't worry about needing warranty work done or having a failure caused by derestricting.

Has anyone came up with a solution for the Smart Systems yet?

Looks like Speedfun works with displays BUT doesn't support the connect module or the ABS system.

However, the display will not readout anything above the limit of 15.5 mph
