Cube Stereo 160 S 750 2022 Specs Modifications

Well after months of hesitating, I finally bought a full suspension.

Most of all I wanted one with a 750Wh Battery.
The charts said I am in between M-L, but the first M will be available +-August.

I intended to buy a 29" 140, but when seeing this matte desert 160S in stock 5km from my home,
everything suddenly went fast.

There is no "160S" logo on this side, seems to be normal.
The shop offered to mount the pedals, and convert to tubeless.

When picking it up, they only mounted the wrong pedals, and forgot to convert to tubeless :)

The Rockrider E-st900 which I started with 2 years ago, will be used for the kids trailer, as spare, small local visits, family hollidays,...

I changed a lot to that bike, I'm still very happy with it.

The Cube will be modified too, but there is much less work to do.

I mounted the XT M8120 wide click pedals, a saddle toolbag, bell, lights and the Garmin.
The first impressions are very good !

The specs talk about 750Wh, but which one?
Here you have it, our cube has the "Horizontal"
(Thinking about ordering a 2nd one)

The M6100 chain has 120 links. It looks a bit too long I think.
It seems up to 8 links can be removed, but I will first get some professional advise about length.

Finally time to convert to tubeless.

This tube valve looked a bit strange, and indeed, it was stuck and should have come out 15mm more.

Todo's:
12V High power from the motor to the front night lights.
Shorten the front brake tube.
A better way to arrange Kiox300 + Garmin

Maybe:
Shorten the steering bar 2x 20mm
Matching brake levers.
Kiox Smartphone Grip or something else to charge a Smartphone.
XT shifter, chain, cassette.

Yes, @Rob Rides EMTB also mentioned it in his review movie that made me buy the bike. (starting 08:10)

Left a shiny one mentioning "Deore"
Right a matte one mentioning "Shimano"
The Caliper is different too. Shiny and mentioning "Deore" at the front, matte "Shimano" at the back.

These BL-M6100 and BR-M6100 seem to exist in both flavours, same price 26.43€
At the moment of mass ordering a few months ago, there must have been a shortage.

By the way, the dropper lever is ugly too, and non I-Spec-EV
Maybe one day I will replace it with this MT500-IL: (in stock 07.06.2022)
--EDIT-- I went for the MT800-IL

In his movie I see the left brake is for the back, the right for the front.
Is that a UK thing ?

Yep, I assumed that was a universal thing. That would take some getting used to if I had to do it the other way round!

I want to order spare brake pads and rotors, but in the Cube specs there is only "M6120" and "203mm"

So I removed the pads at the back: "D03S Resin SS2 TF Shimano"
The rotor says: "TF d203 SM-RT64-L Shimano Min TH=1.5 China <-Rotation"
At the front there is "D03S Resin SS1 TF Shimano"

For the chainring, there is only "CRANKSET : ACID E-Crank, 165mm, 36T " in the Cube specs.

So here we go: "e*thirteen e!spec" at the front,
"36T Bosch compatible 52mm Boost Chainline V40PW" at the back

Question - Do you have an extremely long lead that sticks out of the headset to the back of the Kiox ? I don't know what to do with mine !

No, I don't have that.
Instead, I have an extremely long brake tube from the left brake lever to the front brake.
:)

I think your cable goes into the -stem- Edit: headset, then into the battery compartiment.
There must be a way to pull it into the battery compartiment.
Maybe it's attached somewhere.

I will also have a look into it, because I want 12V from the motor to the steering bar for a big night light.

Don't hesitate to post pictures of your solution !

That's a strange one to to have ! Hopefully an easy fix for you.

I did have a look at where the wire went and hoped after removing the battery I could see the cable and pull some slack through but they are all neatly tucked away. I don't have the confidence taking it all to bits in the dark so just tucked it into one of the rubber wire holders for the remote, it is still very annoying though.

If you do find something when doing your work that would be appreciated.

When I drive alone (bush, jumps, bikepark and asphalt between them), it's mostly on "emtb" or "turbo"
I saw the range is equal or lower than what I can reach with my 500wh decathlon.

When I drive with others (mix electric and amish, XC, enduro, curved asphalt),
I see that going down on asphalt without pedalling, I stay behind.
Where with my decathlon I was going faster than them.
I drive the Decathlon with Ikon/Rekon

This lets me conclude that the high knob soft compound tyres on the Cube have a lot of drag, rolling resistance.

Rekon and/or Forekaster are not available the way I want, so I decided to go for Pirelli:

Visually the knobs of the H look like the Ikon, the M looks like the Rekon, the S looks like the slower rolling Maxxis.
Internet says the R has more drag than the M.
The 2.40 are 62mm wide, my current tyres are 60 and 58mm wide.
I didn't care too much about their new 'emtb' marketing range (2.60)

So as a starting point, I ordered 2xM in 27.5x2.40
We'll see how they compare to the Rekon.
When they're OK I will order a second set of wheels for the Trail/Downhill Maxxis.

Only on tour+ : enduro/gravel/asphalt 46 km, 440hm
The battery went from 94% to 44%
If the legs are Ok, the battery is Ok too :) :cool:

So……… the bad news first
I went to rise my seat tonight and twang the connection between my dropper and the wire went 😭 bit lost how to fix this having looked down the seat post tube ?
The silver lining I took your advice was able to remove the battery plate locate the Kiox wire and pull the excess through so that’s one problem solved, thank you

Yes, I did. I took the battery out and reached up above the lock housing, pulled some of the slack cable through, wrapped a cable tie round it and stuffed it back up above the lock housing. I also keep a spare spoke magnet up there, sealed in a plastic bag and taped to the inside of the frame. Just in case!

If it's like the other bike I saw:
1. Disconnect at the lever.
2. Feed 40cm inner cable +outer tube to the frame direction the post till it comes out the tube
3. Reconnect inner cable to dropper
4. Feed cable+tube direction lever while inserting dropper.
5. Reconnect to the lever.

The 2022 model has a disc magnet, but it stays a good idea.
I plan to somewhere hide a magnet sensor, a tree once broke it off on my 1st bike.

And maybe a battery key too. Typical to realize 1500 km from home that you forgot it.
The lock is only good for prevention against 1-minute thieves anyway.

Personally, for me, it would be more useful if I could lock/unlock the battery with an allen-m6 instead of a key.

I trimmed the plastic end of one of my keys down and it’s stuffed inside one end of the handlebar in a plastic bag, with a bit of thin string taped to the end so I can retrieve it.

No way the lockring of the CS-M6100 was at 40Nm, it was nearly loose !
After installing this XT CS-8100, the derailleur had to be adjusted: endscrew, cable and setting at the shifter.

The CN-M6100 chain was a bit too long, when driving in 10t something was slightly touching.
I made the XT CN-M8100 a link shorter, better so !

The SM-CN910 was re-used, nobody cares what the marketing department of Shimano says about that.

The crank arms are 165mm long.
Touching the ground with the pedals is a brand new experience to me :oops::oops::oops:
I plan to install 152 or 155mm.

Inbetween the cranks there is 153mm, Outside between the recessed surfaces +-175
