I suspect that "Auf Wiederzehn Pet" is what you meant. A tale of out of work Geordie builders (Plus one Brummy and a Cockney) who had chased work to Dusseldorf in Germany. Very, very funny.
When I was in the 8-10 years old range, my mate and I went everywhere on our heavy steel framed, rod-braked bikes. We were lucky as both bikes were fitted with a 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub gearbox. About 25 years later when I was visiting my parents, they drove my wife and I out into the...
@CaptAngry What you experiencing seems normal to me. The bike is twice the weight, has softer, wider and draggier tyres - of course it's harder to pedal when the assist is withdrawn.
Take the chain off and spin the cranks and you will see just how much drag the motor exerts.
Meet at 10:00 am ready-to-ride, Sun 30th Jul by the side of the cafe veranda, overlooking the big field.
Edit: The start time has been brought forward 30 mins to 10am.
The postcode for Sherwood Pines is NG21 9JL, but ignore the sat nav when you turn off the public road and just follow the signs...
If you don't have a pressure gauge, consider one of these from Topeak. They are excellent and will last you many years. It is on offer from here, and free delivery too.
Topeak Smart Gauge D2 | £25.45 from Pedal On
I usually use my Joe Blow track pump to over pressurise the tyre by a few psi...
I spoke to @myapes today about the distorted pic and he explained that he had inadvertently engaged "wide". So that explains that, except of course that he is a professional photographer and it was his own camera! :ROFLMAO:
Ref the helmet straps. I had checked them when I read your comment and...
A worn chain damages all the gears it touches, so don't let it get too worn.
I too have found that the better spec'd chains last a lot longer, like 3x longer without exaggerating. My first XO1 chain was on course for lasting 6x longer, but I sold the bike before I could get past 4x longer...
@Hattori-Hanzo The trailing edge is what is presented to the trail when you brake. So, a ramp for the leading edge for reduced rolling resistance. But a square edge to dig in and stop you faster on the trailing edge. If you are in the habit of "precautionary" braking (ie you brake because you...
I strongly suggest that you do an internet search on the riding. There are loads of fantastic walking paths along the length of the coast and also inland. We were near St Davids in the SW and we could not find any worthwhile trails that didn't have a "NO Cycling" sign. We met several groups of...
I did say that the first photo was distorted. But I chose that Fox Racing shirt because it was colourful! I had seen a group photo taken after a guided ride and there was me, all in black - my standard finish for more than ten years. In that photo I looked so dull and boring that I thought I...
Honda probably have a huge production of the engines and fits them to a range of products.
Ditto forks, wheels, tyres - just like the e/mtb industry does!
Does anyone know what the production volumes are? Mass production reduces costs. I have never owned a motorbike, do they come in a range of sizes like mtbs do?
None of the above!
I have a 2.5 Maxxis Assegai 3C Maxx Grip on the front and a 2.6 WTB Trail Boss TCS Fast on the rear.
Edit: I have just gone back and voted 2.5/2.5 because that was what the bike was originally fitted with (a Maxxis Aggressor dual compound on the rear).
@myapes and I were exploring at Sherwood Pines and the National Coal Board area that borders it. They are divided by an old railway line that many, many years ago, used to serve Mansfield Colliery (a coal mine). We rode along an embankment and I went to show myapes where the motorbikes used to...
I wind three layers of ptfe tape* around the valve seat where it contacts the rim. Never had a leak since.
Note* It is also called "plumber's tape" - because they use it to seal the threads on compression fittings. My Dad told me that when he was installing fittings in a place that he never...
This is based upon my summation of the general advice on the Forum. Go for any bike you like the look of that has a Bosch motor. The reason is that the Bosch motor is repairable. Personally, I have never had a problem with Shimano motors (and I love the natural feel), but they are not repairable...
