I guess the most important thing is working out if you can get support for the Bosch bits locally. It’s probably worth getting in touch with Whyte directly.
Having said that I wasn’t buying completely blind... I’ve had a couple of Whyte (unassisted) hardtails before so I’m aware of their general geo. The manager of my LBS also happens to be one of my best mates and knows how and where I ride - he wouldn’t let me buy something that wasn’t suitable...
When I first saw the 160rs pop up on their site it was like somebody at Whyte had decided to design me a bike. I bagged one of the first ones in the UK and it’s pretty much perfect. I swapped out the levers to Code RSC’s as I already had them but otherwise left it as is. It’s a monster bike.
From what you’ve posted here and on your other thread I’d say you’ll find the SL more rewarding. If you can have it imminently AND get a discount I’d be going for it.
I should probably add that I really like my SL CC.
The area around the bottom shock mount acts like a storage area for gravel and stones... I was forever picking stuff out of it on my Trance. It’s a downside of the Maestro design.
It’s a universally held opinion that the Giant app is not very good. There’s a new one in the works though apparently.
The RideControl portion will be greyed out as it’s only for bikes with displays. I can’t help with the rest of your woes though. My advice would be to forget the app and enjoy...
Can’t be going for a ride with the kids (9 and 7) and Mrs K whilst on an eMTB - just wouldn’t seem fair... so, I’ve kept my hardtail for that. Plus I still do genuinely enjoy riding it.
This is my longest thus far but I could easily go much further. I was limited by time rather than range. I had the RE on for this and seem to remember I came back with around 50% left.
The Eazzy is designed for 4 bikes and has two vertical hoops/struts with clamps attached so I’ve just cargo strapped the bike to one of the hoops. I’ve only ever done short hops like that and wouldn’t trust it for a longer journey. Looks like the Scorpion has a different design so that may not...
I haven’t put my e160 on our Buzz Eazzy 4... but if I were to I’d do what I did when I put the Trance on it and not use the top clamp at all. Push it out of the way and use a towel (for frame protection) and a cargo strap.
If it’s mainly road riding I’d pick the SL out of those two... it’s much easier to pedal unassisted. Range wise the SL is probably a better option too, particularly if you add in a range extender.
Discounts are hard to come by at the moment so I wouldn’t hold out for much.
Good evening.
Yes, I’m fortunate enough to have both a Whyte e160 and a Levo SL. They’re both terrific bikes but quite different. I tend to ride the Whyte with my other ebike riding buddies and the SL when out with non ebike riders or solo.
Is there anything specific you’d like to know? Are you...
