Yes its Error 199 that pops up every now and then. I think ive seen it like 5 or 6 times in the last 6 weeks.
Wouldnt be surprised if this was a firmware issue?
Over the past weeks ive been gathering information on how to shorten the cranks on Rocky Mountain Powerplay bikes. I hope this info helps some of you with this quite complicated task.
So in order to get shorter cranks than the stock 170's (or if you are lucky the 165) there are a couple of...
Yes power cycling solves the problem, but only temporarily. The error seems to pop up every now and then, like once every few weeks. Its not a big issue, but still somewhat annoying.
So ive searched everywhere and this is what i found so far...
Miranda isnt responding to my questions, so dont expect much from them any time soon.
On the Facebook powerplay group the best solution i found comes from Norman Cobb and involves buying a set of Atlas cranks and drilling them down...
Shimano motors do get bricked, but its not because of servicing.
PLB knows that, but they dont want to deal with the warranty claims that inevitably pop up months or years down the line.
My motor has been opened about 6 or 7 times now and is still going strong after 10000km. It did need...
The bearings are standard common types and can be purchased anywhere. There is a complete listing of the bearings in the shimano servicing topic if you wish to buy them. I bought mine from a local bearing shop in the netherlands.
Many of us have opened shimano motors, replaced parts like...
They dont have anti tamper sensors.
Performance line bearings doesnt want to work on them because they cant provide warranty on their repairs.
Shimano designs their motors such that they shouldnt be serviced, but its not impossible. In fact i would say its pretty similar to working on car...
Ok, so one thing i did is to change the rear suspension flip chip from position 2 to 1, and that raised the bottom bracket about 5mm. That should be somewhat helpful at least.
Another problem with those 170mm Race Face cranks is that they apparently use the same crank mold for 175 and 170mm. The only difference is that the 170 has the hole drilled in a different place. But effectively the 170 crank is just as long as the 175. Thats not helping either!
Any progress with the shorter cranks?
The stock 170's on my altitude are too long imo, and my LBS has problems even finding a 165mm. They contacted raceface and got a pair of 165's but the spindle was too short. Go figure.
Anyway, i liked the 150 miranda's on my previous spectral on, so would...
I took the rear hub apart. Its a SLX FH-M7110, which is actually supposed to be silent.
I regreased the inner splines, and i was careful not to grease the internal part that says not to grease.
But i might have accidently got a tiny bit of grease on that inner part. Ah well... :ROFLMAO...
My LBS told me there is no such thing yet. Unlike the Dyname 3 that can be fully unlocked.
Hey, at least yours will do 20mph, here in europe we are stuck with ~15mph. I feel like im being overtaken by pedestrians :ROFLMAO:
Havent looked at it yet, but perhaps the diagnostic menu can give you some clues? Perhaps the motor needs a new calibration (my lbs told me to do that every once in a while).
Wohoo!
Sadly the shorter cranks were difficult to acquire, so will have to wait for those a bit longer. In the meantime i can enjoy it with the 170 cranks :)
I like it a lot, it has sooo much torque uphill!
One thing that bothers me though, is the high wining noise from the rear hub. They...
Ive had both of my Shimano batteries die while there was nothing obviously wrong with it. They just bricked themselves. Ive got them somewhat working again by bypassing the battery BMS, but its far from perfect. My Shimano E8000 has had its bearings replaced and now needs a new clutch mechanism...
