The Stilus is brilliant VFM indeed but quite frankly, I find the Decoy 29 at £4k better value for my needs/preferences, particularly based on the geo and drivetrain. The £1,300 delta is surprisingly small for what you get actually. Very little to do with brand or snobbery, although this might...
I am very impressed by the SLX 12 drivetrain on my Decoy (coming from XT 11 on my older bike) so that would be my suggestion as you can keep your existing cassette.
I understand that it may require a specific chainring profile though but not sure how incompatible it would be with your existing...
For clarity, Russ is considering selling. But you're right, maybe it's too large for him although reading between the lines it's more likely he finds it too small.
Sorry to hear that. I am normally a L but looking at the Decoy 29 sizing it was obvious that I needed a XL. I am only 6ft but a L would have been too small based on the reach value. How tall are you and who recommended a L ?
I have a XL base as I couldn't see the value in the extra £1,000. I actually prefer an aluminium rear end. SLX or XT is very similar IME or can be upgraded for very little. Now the 36 Fox are nice but I really like the Yari from a reliability / serviceability point of view, plus I think they are...
Yes will go there too as soon as practical. Probably 10th. Does anyone know what time you can start riding up the hill in the morning? I assume registration is necessary so perhaps that's the limiting factor. But I don't the earliest time you can register.
Also, do you need to book recharging...
I just fitted the pair of Eddy's on the my Decoy 29 in 2.6 to replace the OE DHR2 2.4. Really impressed. Heavy but grippy, predictable and very supportive. The Minions were OK but this is quite an upgrade. No idea how much range I have lost but not tons based on early observations, perhaps 5%.
I know you like your stereotypes and ageist comments but the people you describe might be the ones who were properly sending back 25 years ago. And for all we know, they might be sending more than you anyway. You really remind me of someone on STW, same pretentious tone and posturing. Not a good...
They're cartridge bearings so you can't put grease inside them. It's good practice to pack the contact points of a headset with grease. It reduces friction wear by preventing dust/grit/sand to find its way between the races and the bearings and it prevents water ingress and therefore corrosion /...
Sounds good. I just ordered x2 2.6 29 Eddy's from Bike24 for €90 to replace the 2.4 Minions on the Decoy which I don't get on well with. They're too square lol
I didn't know it was widespread. I have been self building my mountain bikes since the 1990s and that's the first full bike I have bought since then. Seems like a false economy.
Just a "heads" up. I got a slight front end creak on my new base Decoy 2020. Dropped the forks and there was absolutely no grease in the head set, top or bottom.
A good application of Finish Line's finest and the creak is gone.
