My first thing with full suspension bikes is to disassemble the linkages and pack the bearings with grease (and do this twice a year). I also coat the outside of the bearings with grease because the seals keep the grease in but not the water out. This way I can get some decent life out of them.
It’s a beautiful bike no question about it. I doubt if Shimano (and most of the others) will offer a smaller battery when almost everybody wants bigger range and you cannot remove the motor to make it almost as light as a regular bike. That alone can be a selling point for the Zesty.
So you are pretty much saying that it's a heavier system than Shimano E8000 @ 2,8kg + battery vs 3,3kg + battery. I would like to see it measured because it's just guessing and it's hard to believe...
If we look at system weight, the E8000 DU is 2,8kg and the 504Wh external battery is 2,6kg (according to my kitchen scale) and add some for wires/display/assist switch/battery mounting hardware. Based on the info in the EMBN video, the complete Fazua system is 3,3kg which means more than 2kg...
My Commencal Meta Power (size L) is 22,6kg with pedals.
I really like the Zesty and the 4-5kg weight difference is huge. If it was in the same price range I would definitely prefer it over anything else. Great concept with the moderate assist and the removable battery/DU.
First I thought the...
Yes, I also read when Tesla was talking about it... see what happens but I assume the 9% won't be given to the customers especially with the smaller batteries. It might make some difference when someone buys a Tesla with a 100kWh pack. We will see... :)
It's very strange Di2 shouldn't have any effect on the walk mode. I think it's a bug in the firmware and makes the walk mode power output different when it's set to Di2 instead of mechanical.
My non-Di2 works well around the middle of the cassette, the low gears are too slow.
Yes, 21700 cells are coming but the question will be the price and their weight. We won't get 40% increase without weight and price penalty and personally, I'm absolutely fine with two 500Wh batteries. I would still need a spare for the long rides even with 700Wh and that would make it even more...
I'm using a regular 32T 104BCD narrow-wide chainring on my E8000 and it works great. It's a cheap aluminum Superstar 'Raptor' chainring not steel as the original Shimano but holds up well after more than 2000km. There are stainless steel 32T chainrings too but they cost 3-4x more than the...
... and that's why they are offering the option:
"Your local dealer can contact the manufacturer and ask if they allow the change to Di2."
In case of a Focus Jam2 the answer should be yes...
Having assist speed limit doesn't stop you from going faster but you need to use your own power or gravity just like with regular bikes.
I don't know about yours but in my country, there are speed limits for all bicycles - 40KPH in the city, 40KPH outside without helmet and 50KPH outside...
I don't know, if I had the power to regulate ebikes I would do it in the same way as it is now in the EU - assist speed and power.
The assist speed limit can be debated but when you have two camps - one which says a motor assisted bike is a motorized vehicle, not a bicycle and the other which...
The restriction is the assist speed and power output - 25kph/250W continuous power (in the EU). I don't see a problem with it as there is an s-pedelec category that allows 45kph assist speed and over 250W power and they are considered as mopeds.
Yes, 25kph assist limit is a compromise - it only...
My last four regular bikes were direct sales so as my ebike. Personally, I don't see more need for shop support for ebikes - if you choose carefully. My pick was a Shimano E8000 equipped Commencal with an external battery without any blings, no need for sponges for plugging holes etc. and great...
Yeah, I hear you, this is the reaction I hear 100% of the time. You bought your £7000 bike knowing about the assist limit but it doesn't matter. Sure, you ride your derestricted ebike only on private property... like everybody else.
As ebikes will be more popular the derestricting issue will be...
