Good advice, thank you. My decades old LBS where I bought the bike just went out of business so I will need to travel to another shop, so I will first take conservative rides close to home (read: in case of failure can call a friend or coast downhill to home!) to gather more clues first.
Keep us posted. Ride well friend.

My Fuel EXe just developed a problem at 491 miles/136 hours. The power delivery is suddenly erratic and weak overall, and I notice that the Rider watts always displays zero on both the top tube control display and the Trek Central app. Anyone else experience this? I've checked wiring connections at the motor and controller.
I had this, but discovered the chainring was loose. Tightened it and it came right back. Weird

Reckon plain black bars are the best option against Hex Blue or look at a splash of colour? Not sure what will go with Hex Blue.

Here is the Wolf Tooth IS41 performance headset cap installed. The gap is smaller indeed. The exposed gray portion is the top cap dust seal. The included bearing is 100% better then the stock POS FSA one.

Looking good. Mine had a crazy big gap. Hope one fits perfectly too with no gap. It amazes me how many left the factory and bike shops like they did.

*annoys me that my top cap is wider than the little spacer lol

Hi folks, I've recently bought a fuel exe 9.7, and have loved it over the last 90km. I've noticed two issues which I'm hoping you might be able to weigh in on:
1- pedalling at lower speeds (, in all three modes, high and low cadence, high and low power input by me). Only occurs when the motor is on. I notice a soft rubbing sound from the motor. Sounds kind if like if you were to run your fingers thin hollow plastic surface with ribbing.

2- the motors power output doesn't seem consistent, nor in line with what I expected of 300-200 max setting. I'll happily pedal at 200-250w sustained up hill, but the motor output will bounce around a lot but usually sitting at less than 80-90% of my input (guesstimate maths). I have a video I can upload. I thought at max settings that it would sit at max power (or there abouts) output the whole time as long as I was pushing >125w

Any input you guys might have would be truly appreciated, thank you!

This sounds pretty normal to me for TQ- I've rarely seen my motors put out more than 200w, and even then only briefly. I'm guessing the "inconsistency" you're noticing is because the motor is primarily matching off your torque, not just matching watts.

Keep in mind 300w+ of combined power is a lot. Maybe not DJI territory, but still pro tour cyclist levels.

So after a bit of back and forth with stems and bar width I have come to the conclusion that the short stem wide bar thing just does not work for me.

Back to 760s and a 50mm stem.

Just goes to show that we all ride very different and what is comfortable for one is not for another.

Trouble is I know have lots of bars and stems to get rid off that I have accumulated over the years. If anyone in UK is interested in some used oneups then let me know (760/780)

Hmmmm, maybe I will try the shorter stem (42mm) and bars at 760mm. Actually think that’s the only combo I have not tried! Definitely think 780s are too wide for me though. I am 5ft 10 but don’t have a wide reach.

The EXe is on my radar as a first time purchase of an e-bike, mainly because all my friends have gone to Rises. I’d like to think I can still put in the miles so not looking for an Amflow*, just something for a little extra. Do you owners still think it is a good proposition in the market now it’s been out a few years. Also looking at the Whyte elyte rsx.

*awaits Amflow owners defending their motors…..

I had the same concern and my EXE 9.7 will be my first e-bike as still want to pedal a bike. Whyte’s are not available where we are 🇨🇦 and felt that the motor seemed to have less complaints about it and right now still think its a good buy (one sale with free Ranger extender) but certainly had the same concerns. I think bikes have evolved enough that a great bike from 2 years is still a good buy. Most changes now are incremental and if the motor and torque works for you then I don’t have any concerns.

Have loved the MTB world for many years but the constant sales pitch of ‘new’ making a bike a couple of years old ‘outdated’ frustrates me a bit. It’s still the rider that makes most of the difference so don’t have any concerns with my purchase and look forward to picking it up next month.

Especially with the sales going on, I'd get the EXe and a range extender and be done with it.
Personally I like the TQ motor so much that I've moved on to a Slash+ (better fit for my fave trails).

My partner has a Devinci E-Troy lite with the Bosch SX motor, same as the Whyte. It's a great system- has a little more oomph than the TQ, and a bit more range since the battery is larger. Also, our LBS says Bosch is great on warranty support. On the flip side, the Bosch SX has a rattle (she doesn't care but it would annoy me) the display is sub par, and I hear Bosch doesn't have the garmin/ANT+ connectivity I like with the TQ system (allows me to see battery % and mode on my watch, and record those into my ride logs). Aside from the motor rattle, the Botsch also has a pretty loud free-wheel sound when backpedaling.

My longest ride on the bike to date as I get back to fitness after knee injury. Battery was at 50% at the end. But I did use full power at times. As I get fitter the less I will need that so the battery use will get better.

Silly question but does the EXE have a 1.5 or 1.8 tapered steerer? Looking at some forks without spending a fortune and not sure what I need!

I’m looking for a fairly budget but slightly better fork than the RockShox Gold RL. From what I gather the Revelation RC is maybe next step up, then something like a Lyrik above that. Where does the Yari fit in?

My old fork (on my Old ex8 2018) was a fox 34 rhythm and did prefer that to the Gold RL to be honest so I am not looking for anything high end. I’m not a downhill guy and my jumping is probably by accident when I hit a wrong line. Lol

I'm not too familiar with your market - or riding style- but I would look for a Fox Rhythm 36, or Rockshox Lyrik Select+.
The Fox Rhythm forks get a bad rap due to lack of adjustments, but I know some pro-level riders who are totally happy running them. I see them lightly used for $300usd.
