A return to Danbury Common. Probably on the regular bike this time in preparation for a big weekend at BPW next week.

Out on a non eMTB group ride this evening, and also currently deciding about whether to do this ride again, early Sunday morning on the eMTB. I rode it this time last year, and as the weather is looking fine for the weekend, I wouldn't mind doing it again, but possibly extending it to take in Falmer and Lewes.

I get my Trek back tomorrow so I'm off to the FoD with an off-piste route map from the STW ride I missed last week. Can't wait!

Meeeeeeee! Again.
IMG_3038.JPG

Posted again in case you didn’t see it in the other thread...

I’ve done 45.94 miles in 4hrs 24mins over 2 days. I forgot to medicate before I set off today and my body has now gone on strike, I could barely get out of the car when I got home...

Great photos - you shopped whatever holding the bike up out, or have some sort of magic trick?

Eddie is a sneaky cove! ;)

He has a stand that he's very good at hiding. See how many times you can spot it.

Thanks, it was good to finally get some time to be out enjoying my self. :)

R120, it is actually a bit of both. Where possible I do try to hide the stand withing the shot, but if I can't manage it, then I'll crop it out.

Looks like a great ride Eddie , did you carry a battery or get a charge part way ? Surely that’s not possible on one battery ?

Thanks. :)

At the end of the ride, I had roughly a quarter of battery capacity left remaining on a second battery that I was carrying.
And other than an estimated two miles, the ride was ridden using tour, with the estimated two miles being ridden in eMTB mode. The first battery expired at 31 miles.
The distance from 18 miles to 23 miles was all but flat, and ridden above the legal cut off point.

Well it's that time of year again, where all of the trails that I have been busy constructing over the last few years, are now becoming overgrown with bracken. It's actually pretty hard to keep on top things at this time of year, but it's all good fun, or rather would be, if someone hadn't stolen the tools that I had so carefully hidden away last year. :(

Never mind, this is a taster of things to come. Photos from last year, with the back pack kit. At least these tools weren't hidden up.

The scythe was one of the tools to go missing.

I also don't recommend trying to climb any steep banks, when carrying a back pack rammed with heavy tools. When will I ever learn! ;)

That’s the biggest problem for us on the moors , the ferns grow up really quick about waist height , and the trails get covered or become little corridors that can no longer be ridden fast , think Iam going to have to get a scythe too , Err where was yours left ?

It is a bit of an odd one with the tools. One of the woodlands is private, with no public access, and I had carefully hidden the tools away up in a yew tree. Very covered and very safe, or so I had assumed.

The second to go missing, was a pair of loppers and a spade. I hid them miles from anywhere, under a fallen rotten tree, and covered them over with leaves. I can only assume that someone had been watching me, which could well be the case, as I have found evidence of someone living rough in the area. By rough, I mean even making a mattress from leaves, and firewood stored up in trees to dry. Very military minded. I have also kind of been freaked out when riding through the woodland late night, when I spotted a torch light, and whoever had the other torch must have seen me at the same moment, but turned their one off. I have to admit, that I turned back, and have been nervous about riding the woodland at night time ever since. I don't really fancy a bang on the head! :) Saying that, I intend to go through there tonight.

Bracken is certainly a nuisance, and as you say, really impedes the speed. Left unchecked, it doesn't take much for it the get caught on the handlebars. :(

Best thing to do with bracken is to trample it so the stems are bruised & cracked in several places. It bleeds out and dies then. Cut it and it just comes back stronger. Gotta watch for ticks in the bracken too, Limes disease is a killer.

Back OT, is anyone riding this weekend?

I was planning to ride all three days as the boss is at work but the weather here is crappy and I've only just got my bike back from riding in sloppy conditions. :(

Eddie your woods sound a bit spooky to me

I happened to think of you today whilst I was in the woodland. I was just feet away from this guy, and didn't even see him sitting on the ground. Smothered in fire ash, I just didn't see him until he spoke. I did tell him, that he would have scared the crap out of me, had it been night time. As it was, he still made me jump. A real woodland character, right down to no footwear. I'm popping back to the woods tomorrow evening to have another chat with him. I got to say that he was one of the nicest of people, that I have ever met.
