rode the bloody thing

first time out after breaking my heel 14 weeks ago, Bpw pedalup in ~18 mins and halfway back down when the forks decided to shit themselves & obviously having 170mm travel is overrated

pain level in foot - 'normal' (or whats become normal since injury!)

dissapointment @ forks level - high.




also, my mrs's Ksl had a 'new' fox x2 kashim etc. rear damper fail (as her Ohlins coil is away for service) - going to send off for warranty

Yesterday I rebuilt the rear wheel with a new hub and WTB rim off the Cannondale Moterra as that's on a Hope wheel set now (I rebuilt the front wheel a couple of weeks ago). I had to change the hubs as the WTB wheels are thru axle boost and the Scott is old school QR.
All went well and after about 4 hours I had the rear wheel trued and running perfectly.....until I realised I hadn't set the dish offset. Bugger, another 3 hours later and I finally had it re-trued up and the offset corrected (total time about 7hrs!).Took the old plaything for a spin today and got covered in mud and filthy water. But the rear carrier came in handy as I called into the local Supermarket for a bottle of wine on the way home looking like a swamp monster.

It's an eMTB, sort of....it's crap at climbing and useless on anything gnarlier than a farm track but it's still good fun. I built the bike during COVID for something to do, Bafang BBS motor in an old Scott Aspect.

I have the sram GX AXS derailleur on my levo (non t-type). The derailleur is loose and floppy due to design, makes the bike noisy on rough downhills. I added some plumber's tape to the derailleur bolt as per suggestions on another MTB forum. It tightens up the derailleur a bit so it doesn't flop around anymore. Stopped all the chain slap / derailleur flop noise on my bike. Now I know what a silent bike is supposed to sound like going downhill.

There are a few ways of doing it. An o-ring, but people say it shreds over time. An M10 x 16mm OD x 1mm thick aluminum washer. Or wrap some plumber's tape around the bolt head so it acts like an oring. Or you can file down the spacer that sleeves around the bolt from 14.51mm long to 14.05-14.1mm.

Not getting what they were forecasting here thankfully. Not had a shed roof off for a long time. Last year my neighbour across the roads trampoline went walkies. Jumped in to next doors at the back then across the road and stopped just inches from my car. 5 am knocking at door , she doesn't speak good English so panicking a bit . Wife gave her a cuddle and I tied it down till wind eased. Sorted.

They'll often go down overnight to start with but after a few rides the sealant gets to work after becoming evenly distributed. Had this with the Maxxis High Roller 3's just put on our Rails. Now settled down and (vaguely) interestingly the rear DH tyres seem to hold pressure a little better than the front DD tyres. Staggering grip btw.

I had them for a few years then had a bad experience. I can live without them to be honest. I have slime in one tyre I believe. I would use slime tubes but can't seem to find any bigger than 2.3.

I've looked in my local halfords but never seen as big as that and asked but assistants were not interested. See online but never in stock .Will check link out maybe get , they would do me I'm not a racer anymore. Thanks. Showing as in stock. Never tried them but I would give them a go.

Slime tubes are very heavy (see note below). Annnnd... they only seal holes up to 3mm!
But the sealant never goes off!

Note: It is more than 25 years since I've bought Slime tubes. But a 26" x 2.125" Slime tube weighed 315gm vs a regular tube at 160gm. This was due to the thicker rubber used and not just the added Slime sealant. That is almost double the weight!

Leap double sram blips for the handlebars followed by Rockshox reverb to clear up the cockpit and alleviate my OCD.
Ergon seat and grips.
Sram eagle X01 crank arms
Sram XX1 10-52 cassette and chain.
Katana pedals.
The missus said I cared more for the bike, I kept quiet for fear of physical assault.
