Just added a prototype mudstop made of duct tape for this morning's ride. There is slack in the center, with reversed duct tape under it so it moves freely.

nice is that to keep mud away from the motor/bearings? I think ill give the ductape prototype a roll. reminds of the old duct tape wallets

Finally sorted my cracked motor cover. On my second one of these and Specialized decided to up the price to £40 (despite them being $26 in the US) which seemed crazy for a part that really doesn't last long.

So took my old one and drilled a bunch of holes in it and sanded to get a key:-

Then wrapped in carbon kevlar cloth and epoxy:-

Opened up the vent holes and mounting holes and fitted. Pretty happy with how it came out:-

Your seat seems higher than your bars, Glad I'm not the only one
I was actually a bit paranoid about it when I set my bike up. (mines +2inches higher)

I googled since almost everyone else seems to limit the max seat height to level with the bars or lower.
Then I found this pick and decided it must just be a tall people thing.

Been musing about de-mulleting my bike since I got it, I just never gelled with what felt like a bloody huge wheel way out in front of me and I found it particularly irritating in slow twisty techy stuff. Finally (over 2 years later lol) picked up a used 27.5" wheel in excellent condition and got a new DHF. I never thought it would make a huge difference but it's really noticeable and I love it. Running 180's instead of the stock 160's keeps geo similar too. Maybe I just spent too many years on 26ers or I'm simply a heathen and don't get on with this new fangled 29" malarky

cut my bars down to 800. The new bars I got came stock at 820, I tried them out like that for the last 6 months. I noticed I kept running with my hands inward on the bars a bit which is around 800. Plus the bars are a bit too sketch in tighter trees. I used to run 780s but 800 seems like a good spot.

Nice. I've been mulling doing this but didn't have a suitable fork to keep the geometry reasonable.
Be very interested to hear how it rides. Be curious if the extra travel is actually more beneficial than the bigger wheel.

I only went for 180 Domains cos my general MTB ineptitude was smashing through the 160 Lyrics in Morzine. But of course the 180/29" setup only made the whole front end feel even bigger. It's also not helped by the frame being an XL which is right on the cusp of being too big for my height. So the whole bike in general just felt 'big' but especially out front. The 27.5 has really tamed down the size, I was sceptical don't get me wrong, it's only 1.5" and is why it took me so long to get round to doing it but it's deffo easier to manage especially on tight stuff and I can't see me ever changing back. Horses for courses though, if my bike was on the cusp of being too small and/or I only wanted 160's then I prob wouldn't have done it.

Fitted new crank boots and added air to my forks and shock

Gave my wifes bike a full service as she hasn't riden it since January and we are ging to Gisburn Foest tomorrow

Both now on charge, ready for tomorrow

Fitted Sram Eagle AXS to my lads Levo

Took the chain off lightly brushed the cassette and boom clean as whistle. Threw another chain on. Wiped the other chain off and put in the crock to cook.

Lubed the chain, WPL on the Shock and Forks
Cleaned my dropper post
Peatys PT17 on the Pivot Bolts and rear mech

Changed the shifter buttons on the AXS to be reversed

I didn’t replace the rubber …but emptied the dishwasher, watched CNN, scrolled Netflix, sat through the hockey playoffs (can be dangerous btw…) , worked on a world domination scheme …the usual stuff when you’re laid up for a few weeks.

My bikes are tuned up and ready to go …when I’m ready to go. So I welcomed the chance to service my nephews MTB when he limped it into my garage. He had a list of issues and I added more once I saw his bike. Not quite a full service …but pretty close. (Lube, adjusting, worn parts etc). “No problem …pick it up tomorrow” I said.

When he picked up the bike he headed to Thorn Hill like I suggested. “Bed in those new brake pads first”. I cautioned.
He was happy with the new fit (he’s getting bigger) and the new parts I added.
1 hour later I get a phone call; “My rear brake pads fell out but I found them”.

W…T…F…!


I may not of secured, locked and bent the cotter-pin for the new pads on the rear brake. (Shimano single piston calliper).

Everything’s fine. A new 5cent cotter-pin was installed. It could have been a lot worse. Unpacked the bags from my guilt trip.

Some new uberbikes oil slick calliper bolts to fit
After one slackened on Sunday and wanted to strip as I tightened it so just though replace all 4
was gonna get some some callipers aswell but 203 was out of stock for rear so leave that for another day

Thought I was running a 203 rear hope disc but turns out it’s 205 no wonder I have 3 spacers under calliper haha
Was looking for cheap 200mm hope but no luck, to do away with spacers altogether

Gave my Levo's headset a cleanup and regrease after an unexpectedly wet and muddy ride today. Headset made clicking sounds – now all good again! Interesting how one seems to morph into a bike mechanic more and more over time.

Had a noise in the front brake so I took out the brake pads and used some sandpaper on them and cleaned the rotor with muc-off disk break cleaner.

Not a 'weight weeny' but the weight of my 2022 Trek Rail alloy is slowly increasing with every upgrade.

Thought I'd try my air shock again which is 500g lighter than my Ohlins TTX22m.2 coil. Didn't like it so put the Ohlins back on. Same with HT PA03 pedals which are 100g lighter than my Deity Tmac pedals. Didn't like them so put the Deity Tmacs back on. Next is delete the battery lock etc.

Cut the bars from 800 to 760mm — it felt like I was steering a jumbo jet. The funny thing is, my traditional Stumpy FSR (circa 2012) had reasonably wide bars for its time, weighing in at 660mm .

Replaced all my frame and cassette body bearings and gave my motor seals a clean with some new grease.

Installed a new slx cassette with xtr chain and new chainring and some orange hope jockeywheels.
To finish off i installed a rocker paddle on my sram axs shifter.

I cleaned the bike just before my last trip and I noticed that the rear caliper was moving!
Both bolts were loose!!!!

I absolutely could not tell when using the bike, before or after I tightened the caliper bolts.

PS: The front was OK.

Replaced the rear rotor and pads on my lads bike

Did a bolt check and spayed maitenance spray on his pivot bolts

He can now stop again in time for the weekends Bike Park Wales trip
