Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

@about 100 miles on 1.1.0.0

thank you very much for the first hand information

could you tell us how many kilometers you currently have and if you continue without errors?

it would be interesting for everyone to see if it is safe volspeed with the new firm 1.1.0, thx a lot in advance

I ordered volspeed 3 and intend to install it to my Trek bike this week. I do feel bit worried about losing warranty if some problems do show up. 510 error is internal sensor error, anyone know what that means exactly? It doesn´t seem to be related to the speed sensor since it has it´s own error code, 503.

Is there any certified experiences on people having their warranty voided after installing derestriction kit?

next week I will install volspeed v3 on my Trek Rail newly updated to 1.1.0.0, I have had the speedbox 3.0 with 1.0.2.0 and 1.0.3.0 over 1200 kilometers without any problems beyond the discomfort of the countdown, will cross my fingers so that everything works well with volspeed&1.1.0.0

I have been thinking of getting the volspeed 3 because it seems like it hasn´t been causing trouble for people with firmw. 1.1.0.0, which I have installed on my bike currently. I was just wondering if the software version of the display matters? I have a kiox display with version 3.0.1.0 installed

Just fitted in VOLspeed 3 for my Trek with 4th gen Bosch performance CX. Super simple to install and even simpler to use. I took my bike for a test drive for 12 kilometers with 32km/h as the limit for motor assistance. Worked perfectly and I have to say with very limited experience that getting the motor up to 32km/h transforms the bike in to a completely different beast. As means of commute, it will shave off significant amount of time every week.

I'm still on the fence about trying to go higher than 32km/h, mainly because I'm afraid of breaking the motor/bike. But also to be noted, when driving at approximately 35km/h with very little effort, it's easy to lose sense of speed. Just based on my first trip I'd caution everyone to keep an extra level of attention to speeds when derestricting bikes. It's one thing to drive 35km/h when you have to put in the leg work, when the bike does 80-90% of the job for you it's easy to cruise too fast in to corners and such.

Still though, seems to be super fun and even more practical for my use. Love it!

great, do you have version 1.1.0.0?, I have been + 1000km with the speedbox 3.0 in 1.0.2 and 1.0.3, the difference with respect to having it limited is like from day to night, a shame the annoying countdown

last week install volspeed with 1.1.0.0, I hope dont have problems and enjoy the ebike unlimited without the annoying countdown

I honestly don't know, but it's not the updated 85Nm version. I've been thinking about getting the upgrade when I visit LBD (is that the acronym used here?) in the following weeks. I'm bit worried about the new firmware possibly not being compatible with VOLspeed3. But I've read that others have tried and it works so maybe I'm being overtly cautious.

I've now done about 80km with volspeed and have had no issues. There's no countdown with volspeed so that's a definite plus. Also I agree with you that it's an entirely different experience to drive with derestricted motor. Can't even compare.

Also to be noted, there's going to be snow on my commute for about 4-5 month period per year, so I probably could benefit from bit more torque in my bike. The update makes sense in that regard.

1.1.0.0 is the latest update which ups the power to 85nm. I'm currently on 1.0.2.0 and only covered 109 miles so far. I've ordered my Volspeed v3 and I should have it shortly.

I'll be updating my firmware to 1.1.0.0 before installing the Volspeed and once I do, I'll report back and let you know how I've got on. I'm doing this based on other replies from this post, as there has been reported success. Fingers crossed it will be the same for me and I'll report back.

installed in Trek Rail with 1.1.0.0 and limit 36km/h three days ago, easy installation and so far everything perfect without errors but I have only done 60km, I love not having the annoying speedbox countdown and I also love having simultaneously the range and % remaining battery information on the screen of the purion

I will continue to inform with the passage of kilometers if any type of error appears, greetings

I installed my Volspeed to mine, firmware 1.1.0.0 - all ok no errors, works perfectly. Quick question, on setup, should I choose the option for S-Pedelec as mine is the performance CX? I noticed the speed limit option starts at 31/32mph on S-Pedelec option which I thought was a bit risky due to the potential errors from the motor. As I've read setting the limit around 20/25mph is where it's happy and where most people haven't experienced any error issues.

No you don't change it to s pedelec. The initial setup should read 11.1 -> 10.0 -> 25.0 -> 0.0

After this is complete you set your new max speed by pressing minus for 3 seconds.

Just fitted volspeed v3 to my month old 2021 cube reaction pro, gen 4, performance line cx, 15 mph is ridiculously low with the sram eagle12 speed cassette, set the volspeed at 25 mph and it's ideal for me, it has transformed the bike, any more than perhaps 28-30 mph, I think you'll run out of gears, done about 30 miles on the volspeed and no problems so far, easy to fit, didn't have to remove crank.
I'm on the 85 nm software.

Im at about 300 trouble free miles since installing the volspeed on my gen 4 cx cube stereo hybrid with 85nm software. Definitely the best upgrade for the money. I installed it with dielectric grease packed in all the connections to keep any muck or water and corrosion out of the connections, I use it on the battery terminals and charger port too. I know they are sealed but its one extra line of defence.
I use dow corning DC4, its great stuff for any electrical connections on cars bikes boats etc.

Im a big fan of flite test as I fly rc freestyle drones and planes too, yep waterproofing circuitry and connections is totally achievable if you use the right products in the right places. Im sure a lot of people who are getting sensor faults etc could just be down to moisture or contamination in the contacts which could be avoided with sensible application dielectric grease or similar products.
DC 4 is used commonly on aircraft and is approved by Boeing/ Airbus/Embraer plus others Ive used it for years and swear by it.

I just fitted volspeed V3 on my one week old Flyer upstreet4 2020 bosch cx gen 4 gates belt drive bike. (firmware 1.1.0.0., 85nm)
It was an easy an quick installation, i did not need the crankpuller.
i had to test it immediatly and did a 20 km test drive.
It works great, started at max 33 km, no problem, then max 40 km, no problem, then max 50 km no problem!
I was a bit worried about my nexus 8 with belt drive, but in gear 8 i can cruise effordlously at 35/40 km (depending on the wind), max speed i reached was 51 km, but this needed some insane pedalling.
I'm very happy with the volspeed v3, i hope i don't get any errors, once you are used to the feeling of cruising at 35km, you don't want to get back to the european restriction of 25km.
I also had the Flyer dual battery installed, 625 and 500, 1125 wh total, in 25km eco mode i have a range of 300 km and 150 km in turbo. With the volspeed installed i hope to still have 50% of that range.

interesting bike you've got there, with the belt and nexus hub. I'm assuming you're in Europe somewhere? What did it cost you? Cheers

I've been using Volspeed 3 in Trek Rail 9.9 with 1.1.0.0/85nm firmware since August 20, about 300 kilometers, the speedlimit first at 36km/h and after that at 42km/h, for now everything is perfect without any type of error, hopefully it continues like this, I will continue reporting here as the kilometers pass

Volspeed 3 - bosch performance cx 2020 - 1.1.0.0 firmware.

Limit set to 51 km/h from the beginning
I have now done around 200KM and zero problems at all. It's a real joy to ride.

I have changed the chainring frem 38 to 44. So now I'm riding around 45km/t with out pedelling like a maniac. ☺

Well today was the day... I recieved Error 504 this morning. Was riding at about 40Km/h on the intuvia display (38 according to the GPS computer).

Motor: Performance CX 2020 (MY20)
Firmware: 1.1.0.0
Display: Intuvia

My plan is to ride the 90 minuttes of shame, and then restrict the speed limit in the volspeed to 35Km/h and see how that goes...

Just installed the Volspeed v3 on a week old Trek Powerfly 4 2021, set the limit to 35kmh. Installation was simple, hardest bit was trying to fit the Volspeed in the space in the bottom cover as no access to the frame.... speaking of which this is my first E-bike and I have a question about the motor cover. The Trek bottom motor cover has loads of holes which seems like a poor design to me, surely loads of water and mud will be getting straight into there where the Volspeed/all cables now reside.

Can I safely tape up these holes? I assume they're for heat dissipation/airflow?

Hi, what's this 90 mins of shame, do you have to ride it for 90mins to clear the code or something?

Yes - the motor is going into kind of a "LIMP" mode. My experience is that the motor kicks out when your pedal rotations is at a given "low-limit", so that it restricts your speed that way. You need to be in a high gear to get up to speed.

After 90 mins in this mode the error code will disappear and the bike is back to normal. The third time you get a error 504 you have to take the bike to a dealer to remove the errorcode.

It sounds bad, and personally I dont think that the highest or lowest speed limit has anything to do with it, hopefully the error is not repeated in more volspeed users

I have been many months with speedbox without any problem (apart from the annoying countdown) and now after reading your case I have fear in my body, at the moment I have 250km with volspeed and 1.1.0.0, no errors, speedlimit first days at 36km/h and after 42km/h, i will cross my fingers and inform here if any problem appears

So, bring the bike into the lounge room, raise the back wheel, and peddle away by hand, whilst catching up on all the Corona virus latest?
