Version 1.03.0Hi Happy Man, do you know your firmware version?
Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.
Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.
We advise members great caution. EMTB Forums accepts no liability for any content or advice given here.
Version 1.03.0Hi Happy Man, do you know your firmware version?
@about 100 miles on 1.1.0.0
thank you very much for the first hand information
could you tell us how many kilometers you currently have and if you continue without errors?
it would be interesting for everyone to see if it is safe volspeed with the new firm 1.1.0, thx a lot in advance
1.0.3.0 : 0-10 miles / no Volspeed 3.0 / no errors
1.0.3.0 : 11-360 miles / Volspeed 3.0 / no errors
1.0.4.0 : 361-810 miles / Volspeed 3.0 / no errors
1.1.0.0 : 811-1060 miles / Volspeed 3.0 / no errors
Just fitted in VOLspeed 3 for my Trek with 4th gen Bosch performance CX. Super simple to install and even simpler to use. I took my bike for a test drive for 12 kilometers with 32km/h as the limit for motor assistance. Worked perfectly and I have to say with very limited experience that getting the motor up to 32km/h transforms the bike in to a completely different beast. As means of commute, it will shave off significant amount of time every week.
I'm still on the fence about trying to go higher than 32km/h, mainly because I'm afraid of breaking the motor/bike. But also to be noted, when driving at approximately 35km/h with very little effort, it's easy to lose sense of speed. Just based on my first trip I'd caution everyone to keep an extra level of attention to speeds when derestricting bikes. It's one thing to drive 35km/h when you have to put in the leg work, when the bike does 80-90% of the job for you it's easy to cruise too fast in to corners and such.
Still though, seems to be super fun and even more practical for my use. Love it!
great, do you have version 1.1.0.0?, I have been + 1000km with the speedbox 3.0 in 1.0.2 and 1.0.3, the difference with respect to having it limited is like from day to night, a shame the annoying countdown
last week install volspeed with 1.1.0.0, I hope dont have problems and enjoy the ebike unlimited without the annoying countdown
I honestly don't know, but it's not the updated 85Nm version. I've been thinking about getting the upgrade when I visit LBD (is that the acronym used here?) in the following weeks. I'm bit worried about the new firmware possibly not being compatible with VOLspeed3. But I've read that others have tried and it works so maybe I'm being overtly cautious.
I've now done about 80km with volspeed and have had no issues. There's no countdown with volspeed so that's a definite plus. Also I agree with you that it's an entirely different experience to drive with derestricted motor. Can't even compare.
Also to be noted, there's going to be snow on my commute for about 4-5 month period per year, so I probably could benefit from bit more torque in my bike. The update makes sense in that regard.
No you don't change it to s pedelec. The initial setup should read 11.1 -> 10.0 -> 25.0 -> 0.0I installed my Volspeed to mine, firmware 1.1.0.0 - all ok no errors, works perfectly. Quick question, on setup, should I choose the option for S-Pedelec as mine is the performance CX? I noticed the speed limit option starts at 31/32mph on S-Pedelec option which I thought was a bit risky due to the potential errors from the motor. As I've read setting the limit around 20/25mph is where it's happy and where most people haven't experienced any error issues.
I use dow corning DC4, its great stuff for any electrical connections on cars bikes boats etc.
interesting bike you've got there, with the belt and nexus hub. I'm assuming you're in Europe somewhere? What did it cost you? CheersI just fitted volspeed V3 on my one week old Flyer upstreet4 2020 bosch cx gen 4 gates belt drive bike. (firmware 1.1.0.0., 85nm)
It was an easy an quick installation, i did not need the crankpuller.
i had to test it immediatly and did a 20 km test drive.
It works great, started at max 33 km, no problem, then max 40 km, no problem, then max 50 km no problem!
I was a bit worried about my nexus 8 with belt drive, but in gear 8 i can cruise effordlously at 35/40 km (depending on the wind), max speed i reached was 51 km, but this needed some insane pedalling.
I'm very happy with the volspeed v3, i hope i don't get any errors, once you are used to the feeling of cruising at 35km, you don't want to get back to the european restriction of 25km.
I also had the Flyer dual battery installed, 625 and 500, 1125 wh total, in 25km eco mode i have a range of 300 km and 150 km in turbo. With the volspeed installed i hope to still have 50% of that range.
4900 euro....also fitted a brooks b17 saddle and leather gp1 brooks handlebars....and a crane creek g4 thudbuster...did a mtb trail today...very comfortable....interesting bike you've got there, with the belt and nexus hub. I'm assuming you're in Europe somewhere? What did it cost you? Cheers
Hi, what's this 90 mins of shame, do you have to ride it for 90mins to clear the code or something?Well today was the day... I recieved Error 504 this morning. Was riding at about 40Km/h on the intuvia display (38 according to the GPS computer).
Motor: Performance CX 2020 (MY20)
Firmware: 1.1.0.0
Display: Intuvia
My plan is to ride the 90 minuttes of shame, and then restrict the speed limit in the volspeed to 35Km/h and see how that goes...
Righto, just read about the 90mins to restore full power...Hi, what's this 90 mins of shame, do you have to ride it for 90mins to clear the code or something?
Yes - the motor is going into kind of a "LIMP" mode. My experience is that the motor kicks out when your pedal rotations is at a given "low-limit", so that it restricts your speed that way. You need to be in a high gear to get up to speed.Hi, what's this 90 mins of shame, do you have to ride it for 90mins to clear the code or something?

So, bring the bike into the lounge room, raise the back wheel, and peddle away by hand, whilst catching up on all the Corona virus latest?Yes - the motor is going into kind of a "LIMP" mode. After 90 mins in this mode the error code will disappear and the bike is back to normal. The third time you get a error 504 you have to take the bike to a dealer to remove the errorcode.
