I went with a 13mm socket (I couldn't find a half inch socket to hand) and turned it back to just over 17.4mm.

3/8s drive socket. Half inch drive won't fit the top left bolt .

I'm pretty sure I just used a 1/4 inch drive socket and it fit fine. I don't remember having any trouble removing the motor and I have done that to 2 different E-Mythique's.

I have one of these coming in. Reading from everyone's posts, seems like the thing to do as soon as I get it is:
1. Split motor, apply conformal coating to the PCB
2. pack drive side seal with diaelectric grease, put motor back together
3. Use some VHB tape to extra seal cable ports etc.

If i do all of those things chances of problems are less high? I couldn't pass up on how cheap this was, figured if i can make it more bombproof it will be a great bike. Let me know if there are any other tips you guys recommend

Still haven't had any issues with mine. It's not guaranteed you will haver problems, but obviously anything you can do to mitigate any potential issues can only be a good thing !!!

Mud guards too ! There is a thread on it.

I still can't turn our bike back on. We went down the possibility of a wet motor route and ordered some AliExpress replacements. I opened up the motor and it was immaculate inside so I didn't go any further. Now I'm thinking it's a power issue. More info in next post.

So maybe it's a power issue. The battery is fully charged and on the blue light. Not in sleep mode. But I did notice that some of the pins on the battery connection in the bike look eroded. And if I look into the battery one of the connections looks burnt. When installing the battery there are lots of clicks from the battery slotting into the frame and the battery latch but I thought I could here a sparking sound too. I removed the connection and plugged it into the battery and confirmed that the battery is sparking when I plug it in. Not sure where to go from here. Possibly try to replace the male side of the connections that lives in the frame.

Mine looked immaculate inside too with no water ingress visible at all but the circuit board still needed replacing for the motor to come back to life. Since you have the parts anyway I personally would change the part and see if that helps.

Ok, so shes back working for now

I replaced the power board and she fired right up. AliExpress purchase. Battery is charging in the background.

I also got a new cable but didn't use it as the original has added sealing behind the block. New cable had none.

The battery still made it's little spark sound when I put it back in the bike so inwanst expecting much. Either the board worked or the battery just decided to play ball again. Fingers crossed

Also this tool to remove the chainring isn't great. A socket style would be much better and I learned the hard way that it's a left hand thread

Just glad its back working. I really like the bike but this problem does seem a common issue.

Sparking is normal, it is inrush current into controller capacitors.
You can use black antispark XT60 if you are not confident with sparks.

Anyone who has fixed one of these near the Surrey Hills.
I think a wet session in Redland woods might have killed mine. Worked fine during the ride, but now 4 days later when I try and start it up again... nothing.
Battery seems fine and can put it in an out of sleep mode. There does seem to be some sparking when the battery goes in which I never had before.
Or any repair shops that work on Bafang? Most of the local bike shops only seem to be Bosch and Shimano.

Mine died today with Error Code 27 briefly then permanent Error Code 12. Changed the display and it went away. Now returned again.
Internet says needs a new controller. Anyone had this?
Could it be water on the connector board in the motor again?

Thanks Neeco, not sure how to pm you? I’ve knackered the warranty after repairing it a few months ago. Repair was a replacement connector board - original was corroded, motor had water in it.
Might be same again although different fault codes?

Its difficult to diagnose the motor without inspecting it in person, as I have the Besst Tool and my own account with Bafang. But I can aid you in identifying whether the motor is the problem.
So i'd like to ask you to perform a quick test.
Remove the battery from the bike. Then hold the power button on the display remote whilst installing the battery. Essentially, you're force-starting the system.
If the bike turns on, then we can confirm that your controller in the motor is working.
If it doesn't turn on with this method, then we know that the route of the problem is the motor.

Please kindly let me know if it turns on or not and we'll go from there

Bike turns on but code 12 comes up.
Took the motor apart and there are droplets of water everywhere particularly on the ribbon cable and the power connections inside. The connector board is dry though.
The controller is a bit damp but seems to sealed a lot better than the connector board.
The big bearing behind the chainring is rough and there’s play in it. Could be where the water is getting in despite my efforts to pack grease between it and the casing. Other than that I’m mystified how it’s getting in. The connector board on the other side is well sealed. Ordered new bearing and seal. Hopefully being dried and rebuilt will fix it
