I have this exact noise from my e+3. I didn't notice it at all when I was out alone or with friend on ebike but then when I cycled with a friend without an ebike, I was in mode 1 or 2, very low gear and spinning legs to climb and I noticed the noise a lot. I also thought something was wrong with my motor because i didn't notice the sound before. I was.gonna take the bike to the dealer but then I got covid, last day isolation tomorrow so I will bring it soon anyway for a checkover.
You might want to check the previous posts about the noise, the consensus is that the noise is normal and there is also a post with a statement from Giant...where they basically tell you what you already know. ✌If your motor works ok and you mostly don't notice it...I think it's not worth it to go to the shop. If you think about it, you mostly probably don't use low gears on flat ground. If you have the noise when climbing then that's a different story...

Had the same problem with my cover found there was a third small tab on the left side next to the two large ones. This small tab did not locate in its hole properly so pushing the cover out. On trying to bend it so it would slot into hole it broke off, since then it fits perfectly and with no visible water ingress of any sort. The fitting of the cover is one of my pet niggles as it is a bit fiddly but apart from the app issue is the only real small downer from what is a very good bike although i have had a new battery and charger under warranty all sorted quickly by the lbs.

That's interesting to know, I'll take a closer look at the tabs. Love the bike but like you said this is the only part I'm not keen on, not the best design.

Yamaha motors tend to be bomb proof, Nick sanders took an R1 round the world without a hiccup!

i've just started to read about other bikes and problems on other areas of these forums and wondering what to expect from my Giant. the more i ride it, the more i appreciate it how good it is. i hope it lasts! what sort of longevity to you guys expect out of your bikes? i'm not talking brakes, tires, etc, i mean the motor and battery. how long do you think they should last?

i know a guy with an original Rocky Mountain powerplay Instinct, big heavy guy, hard and frequent rider, and his is still going strong, 4 years later. he has replaced the forks as he wore them right out and has had some issues with the motor, but all repaired and still going. he's passing the bike on to his ex wife and waiting for the new Altitude.

i hope for this kind of longevity from my Reign. it's going to see a lot of use this year, lots of lapping of the good trails that i rarely saw last year due to the heat and time required to get to the top.

Like I said in a previous post it is silent uphill and under proper pedal pressure, only under the combo of next conditions(low gear flat terrain, light pressure on pedals) can I awaken the noise.

Those are conditions that I almost never ride so it's fine...will go to the LBS to make a remark in the service booklet in any case it worsens. Otherwise I am riding the bike on like it is.
It is just the clutch /decoupler coming in and out as it's over running the motor.
They all do this.

What exact model of fox shock did you put on it? I need to know what measurements it has, to look for it and what affects the geometry of the bike
I have a fox dhx 2 coil factory edition.
Exactly same measurement as original shock.
I do not experience a lot of pedal strike in low position as described in this forum on many occasions so suspect it makes bike sit higher in its travel... Either that or the fact I've come from downhill bikes that are low anyway...

Another note being I work on a lot of high performance cars with brass button clutch plates that make a similar sound sort wouldn't be surprised to me see something like this inside as they have superior holding power when engaged but are noisy when engaging /disengaging.

Question for E+2 owners. How you you finding the Zeb and DPX2? Up to the job or underwhelming?

Is it worth paying the extra for the +1 with 38s and X2?

First world dimema I know.

Personal choice. I really don't like fox suspension. Always preferred rockshox. Went bottom spec and put ultimate versions of rockshox suspension on it. Also depend what you ride alot. Dpx2 at bike parks will get overwhelmed quickly.

Also a RS man, had bombproof Pikes and Lyrics for years. Also like fit and forget so don't need to meddle endlessly with multiple rebound and compression settings. So would prefer ZEB I think.

But also heard that DPX2 is not a great shock and that X2 is much better for Enduro, but far more complex for servicing. Really torn between +2 and +1 at this stage.

Go the cheaper model and get a rockshox super deluxe ultimate air shock on it. Well the standard shock. Best air shock there is in my opinion. Love it on mine

I really like the spec on my +2, the ZEB is fantastic and I was not so sure about the dpx2, but it’s great. My regular bike is a transition sentinel with lyrik and dpx2, I don’t love the dpx2 on that bike, but on the giant it feels great. I’m sure another shock could be better, but I can’t fault it so far. I prefer how burly the ZEB feels over the lyrik and I’m happy with the damper. I always feel like upgrading at some point, so I might consider getting a rc2 damper, but so far I don’t think it’s worth the cost. All the other components are great as well, for the price I don’t think it’s a bad buy. I was on the fence on whether it was worth buying the +1 over the +2 to begin with, but availability made my decision for me and I’m glad it did.

This is mine. I wanted the orange colour plus had a few upgrades ready.

Put a riser bar on it, burgtec stem and peddles. Axs dropper and gears, rockshox super deluxe ultimate rear shox, rc2 damper upgrade, vorsprung smashpot coil conversion on the forks. Assegai front and dhr rear in DD casing. Wheeler on the way. DT Swiss fr560 rims with orange hope hubs. Trickstuff Maxima brakes with galfer rotors. Thank that's it 🤣

I believe the zeb is great having come from a 38 they are both great and either will handle serious abuse with composure......
Now the dpx is definitely not going to perform well as this is generally a trail bike rear shock and not suitable for self shuttles or park riding.
Fine if your trail riding, then you should have purchased a different bike in my opinion as this bike wants to be go fast.
I swapped my rear shock to coil without even trying it as you only have to look at what bikes have this fitted to see that it's no suitable here.
X2 was great in my commencal but also upgraded to coil and transformed that significantly for the better so I'm highly recommending coil for rear and leave zeb alone.

Hey mate, would you be able to measure the bb height? Mine is 330 just like on Rob’s review, think my last bike was 345mm so a lot lower.

🤣 Just been cleaned. It gets plenty muddy in the UK weather. Done dyfi bike park on it recently and it was great. Just need to get used to 29er front wheel
I’m in Scotland so very use to wet muddy conditions ( plenty snow at the moment). No water issues here as yet 👍

Right, had an order on a +2, going to change to +1. The better suspension swung it, plus available immediately. Hope it's worth the additional €1000!

I was going to put a coil from my other bike on up my reign. After speaking to the shock supplier they suggested a heavier spring for my ohlins. Did you need your do this with your fox?

The noise of the motor goes away. I’ll have to see the distance I’ve ridden but I did notice today the motor seemed quieter than normal, not that I thought it was loud anyway but I know a lot of people have said it’s loud. The 38s are better for me with no golems in them and the guide brakes on my e+0 needed a good bleed and some descent pads in them. All bikes have their faults. 👊

Not golems I mean tokens. Have no idea how that happened 🤷‍♂️

There are YouTube videos and online posts comparing the ZEB and Fox 38. Based on the ones I've seen, ZEB could be more reliable. I cannot speak for the newest 2022 Fox 38, but the 2020-2021 ones have a tendency to require new seals on relatively short order. In my opinion, this speaks about the manufacturing tolerance.

One thing we can all agree on is that the Fox with kashima coating looks way better  I have no idea why RockShox cannot come up with more attractive color ways.
