If this is true and Levo gen 4 will be open to self classification, this is going to be a kick in the nuts for the advocacy efforts here in the United States. As much as I would love to have a Class 3 e-MTB, this will only create unnecessary roadblocks for accessibility in the National Forest. Advocates for responsible e-MTB use have successfully built credibility with land managers, focusing exclusively on securing access for Class 1 e-Bikes, which are seen as the most trail-friendly and least disruptive conveyances. Any attempt to introduce new variables, such as self-classification, will undermine nearly a decade's worth of effort to secure the initial foothold for Class 1 e-Bikes. This is devastating news for me.
I agree, this may create problems unnecessarily.

Just from the pics i've seen it looks like the motor gets detuned significantly (350w) so it's not like these bikes will be doing 30 mph uphill.

Shimano class 3 motors have been available in the USA for the last year....I put one in my 2024 Heckler!...Also, I have never created problems unnecessarily........

I wouldn't call that a detune. 350W it's the Nominal power, it's not the peak power. It's actually a 100W bump from the nominal 250W. I'm sure the peak power will be just as high as previously rumored, which won't exceed 750 Watts. You're also right about not being able to ride uphill at those speeds. I've done a calculation last year and according to them, to overcome the gravitational force, drag, air resistance, and rolling resistance, and maintain 28 mph on a hard-packed 10-degree slope, the rider would need a staggering 3040 Watts of power - that’s over 4 horsepower.

Am I missing something why is the bike specked with a 2.3 tire ? I was told that you will see that you don’t need anything wider. Makes no sense
I think they made a error labeling the tires 2.3. My cannibal tires say 2.3 but they measure 2.4 and they just changed the spec on the website. and the review below says 2.4. Watch i bet they change the spec shortly.
I was sceptical but why second guess the best riders at Spesh.

For a while it was, but then the price increased again. At least here in Norway. As of now its 12% discount on the base models. Thats far from 30-40%.

Can we expect a huge price drop on the G3 as soon as the G4 hits the market?

A Specialized store I was in today had 15% off the Turbo Levo Comp Alloy (£5250 down to £4450), but that was it.

There have been bigger discounts on the S-Works versions in the recent past, but I don’t think Gen 3 stock here in the UK is as awash as people think (or hope?!).

Controversial and dramatic to be sure - but previous poster surmised that your Levo G4 could allow 28mph on roads only, not on off-road trails. (Ride out of your garage and save gas)

Really not sure about this side door 🙄😬
So if there is really no option to have main battery+extender stacked up inside the downtube, swat storage and side entry battery is not something beneficial to me ... I would rather have a frame with a non removable battery and no swat storage than such side door for no real use ... I know it would probably not happen, but I hope spesh will offer Gen4 with both options, one with a side door and removable battery and the other (maybe alloy?) without the side door and non-removable battery ... With my Gen2 I removed the battery only twice within 5 years and that was for cleaning purposes ...

So this had been confirmed the S-Works $13.5k in the US.

But here is the kick in the nutz for the ppl on the fence for all these bikes... and confirmed this today. If you get/got in on this first round of bikes then YES your only paying $13.5K, but if the stock that currently in the US sells out, then the new stock will be subject to the tariffs... and well then you are looking at $15k. So if you are on the fence best get off or you may be paying an extra $2k.. or what ever the tariff is for that level bike. By the way this will be every bike not just specialized.

As for the Batteries, I was told that all the carbons are coming with 840 and the alloys with the 600. The door requires a allen to remove the battery. The 340 is $700 extra and the 600 is like $800 and the 840 like $1000. Here is what I don't know as I just thought about it.. can the alloys accept the 840?? no idea. Also, saw the motor.. it all solid worm gears with no more BELTS... and they are the same on the all models just a different Tune on s-works.

Which means in effect Specialized is doing away with class one/class three distinctions.
Sorta, there are selections for 1/3 so they are there but the user can select. But you are correct no hard lock to only one class (in US). Now how the software works like in Europe.. no idea

More and more answers to consider going forward.
I paid $5200 for my 23‘ comp Carbon levo nine months ago.
Replaced the stock link with a Cascade long travel unit, replaced the Float X with a 65mm travel model as well and swapped out the Rythym fork for a Factory 38.
Fabbed in a Trailwatt boost battery for the longer days if I need it giving me 700+252 for a total of 952w.As well as a deristrictor.
Threw on some Hope Pro 5 hubs with some WTB rims and maxxxis 2.6” tires, mullet.

Weighed bike this am before my ride and it came in at 52.79lbs.

Hmmm drop 13.5-15k plus tax on a new ride… I’m standing pat.
You know what they say you never want the first gen of most mechanical items, 3.1 motor no belt, but I hope Spec. knocks it out of the park and this unit is the exception to the rule.

I've been thinking the same thing. I used to be an engineer at a US auto maker and we always advised friends/family not to buy the first year of a new model car.

This is an incredibly terrible idea. If I were in charge of trails access I would just ban this gen Levo, because it's effectively a class 3. It's like allowing a class 3 if people promise to go slow.
