So a big heads Up
I watched a new review of the GasGas new Brose motor E-bike
And they could praise the actual ride ability of the bike enough buuuutt what a crap crap motor , now I know spesh tweak and put their own spin on the motor and supposedly is using the Brose
But if it’s anything like the gas gas we are in for a crappy crappy surprise
It really didn’t preform well at all they were holding back so badly from just calling it complete rubbish with out insulting the Sponser please watch it and let me know what your thoughts are
Brian Cahal

Dont bother watching. Thats just the standard Brose Mag-S motor thats been in the Gen2/Gen3 for years (with custom tune).

Most reviews of the SRAM drivetrain were pretty favorable and comparable to anything else currently available so I am not sure it's fair to call it crap. That said I haven't watched the video.
Watched the motor section and it sounds more like they have a faulty motor/battery. They had crap range and no power. As you say, the SRAM tune of the MAG S generally gets favourable reviews and reasonable reviews.

Pretty poor reviewer in that case. Surely first step would be to seek out if you have a faulty unit before going ahead and publishing a review?

Yup, they did say that they weren't motor experts. In fairness, when you're comparing several bikes, you'd hope they'd have been checked and all is well before hand.

For all we know, they did check in and didn't get any response.

AFAIK the SRAM drivetrain uses the S-Mag same as the levo gen 3. Gen 4 Levo will have a different motor from Brose.

Give it a watch Woud like to hear what your thoughts are

Is that clever marketing where you spin an issue ...

"Frank was desirous for his 4th new Brose motor to arrive this year for his Levo so he could get back out and ride the f..ing thing" ..

You would assume that they were given to these gus checked and made sure that the bikes are in premo condition , if they were given a faulty bike by the sponsors that’s seriously (slap gat )

Whilst things seem to have levelled out considerably and Brose have really changed and advanced over the years on how they deal with repairs and support, they're must have been a phenomenal number of Mag-S motors returned/exchanged.

It's like someone sat there and said, lets spin this about .. We'll say we're recycling and remanufacturing for Sustainability !! 🙃

Belt issues should be a thing of the past with the Drive 3 Peak. Wonder how many days it will take from launch to the first broken one... We need a thread, with bets ! :) The weird thing is that the Drive 3 still isn't due until June ..

Pretty poor of the bike supplier if they haven’t thoroughly tested the bike before sending it out for review.
Agreed, not a good look for supplier either but it's a reviewers reasonability to clarify with them if the product is faulty or just bad before posting a review. SRAM powertrain has been on the market for over a year and most reviews have it being pretty comparable to similar systems out there.

I would be very impressed if someone managed to break a Drive 3 belt considering it doesn't have one.

Drew at Loam Wolf gave a similar lukewarm appraisal of the SRAM on his Gasser review,so not likely a faulty motor.

Question: Does one buy the Gen 4 at release or wait a few days till Sea Otter and see what else new pops up in that category?

The only issue I can think of is if the Gen 4 initial drop is limited and they sell out right away. We all know there are people out there that will grab it right away because it's new. The newest s-works Levo SL with the genie sold out really quick in the common sizes in the US.

If it has a Brose I would wait a year before buying, chances are high it will have issues that need to be worked out.

Covid is over it won't sell out on day one....

I think a side loaded battery option would be perfect. Load in the size you want base upon your riding needs and weight desired. If Specialized does this then it will be done correctly, even thought they have failed in the past, they always work on making it better. Give them credit for being innovative. right?

It is definitely a side load battery. 800wh on the S-Works and 600wh on the other models. 210wh extender that will power the motor without the main battery.

re: this guy reviewing several recent released ebikes

you do all realize that these bikes were lend by private people to this guy for this review series, yes? because some comments here suggest that the poster has no listening comprehension greater than a toddler...

When the manager was free he came over and of course I immediately hit him up on any updates, and to my surprise he said he had specs to share. Ok so take this for what its worth as they have never steered me wrong. The new Levo Gen4 with boast 110Nm of max continuous torque and 1100 watts max output... with the caveat of needing a extended battery to hit the 1100watts.
Has anyone else had a reputable source confirm the 1100 watts? It does sound a little too good to be true, but that number + a raised max assistance to say 6x would make me forget about DJI and put my name down for one as soon as it arrives. I've always been happy with my Levos, so I'm confident Specialized will deliver a quality bike yet again.

To me that post you quote reads like a mix up between motor output watts and battery wh. 850wh + 250wh range extender making 1100wh. But perhaps I'm wrong.

5900 euros is a good price but because of that how much can I sell my two year old comp carbon for? Suddenly that price of 5900 is not so great for a bike designed four years ago...
I think you could get 5900 worth of use over 3 years. I still use my gen 2 to take mates on rides or setup as a tour bike to use at festivals.
