I
It's still not confirmed it's anything but paint damage
Taken to shop today and it's fucked.
100 percent cracked.
You could run your fingernail easily in one direction and it would catch in the other proving there is a step /height difference.
LBS agrees and has started the warranty process.
As much as I absolutely live this bike I have purchased a Norco range vlt c1 as I have no longer have faith in the design.
Kinda blows the old aluminum doesn't fail theory out the window. Just tapping this area with your finger you can hear how thin it is.
I will bit keep this bike whatever way it goes.
Sorry guys to be the bearer if bad news but this looks like a shit storm for giant!

Also further to other comments this may bike has had exclusive black diamond park laps hence why it's clearly the worst looking of all pics.
This is not suitable for park riding..
Bummer

Best of luck with your Norco mate (sounds like you maybe from ChCh?) interested to hear how the new bike is.

Personally I think this is a design issue rather than a bad batch. Not enough strength in that join. As you say this will have massive ramifications for Giant.

Hi eberyone,
I attach a Pic of my wife's brand spanking new trance 2022 with paint cracking in the area.
This is as of yet unridden.
Also my personal reign which has taken 645 hours of bike park abuse and is on its second wheelset and never been washed also showing this marking with no issues so far as noise etc.
When I first posted some pics after my second or third ride in this forum relating to the my coil spring conversion.
Tomorow my shock someone has commented on that 645hr old photo and pointed out the crack.
For sure there is something that could be done but I'll be without a bike so will conduct a minor investigation
I'm not worried at this stage that it's serious though

Use thiese
I can confirm that the suspected crack in the frame I mentioned above has been deemed a crack in the weld & the owner has a loaner frame from Giant until the new one arrives.
is that what your bike shop has said or Giant? I’m waiting to here what my bike shop has said!

Interesting why some have and some don't. Mine looks fine and likely do more bike parks on it than anyone and a big amount of miles. Spoke to a bike shop yesterday who has sold over 40 of them, not had any report this yet. Maybe a bad batch? What country and when did people who have seen this buy their bike?

Would you mind taking a pic of your bike in that area?

Seems like you have no issues at all. I am hoping I don't but it is what it is. If I do I amsure Giant will take care of me. I rode mine for the first time yesterday, 15 miles 3k of climbing and felt great on up and downs. This is a fun bike!
Yeah, no damage at all. I go dyfi bike park twice a month on double and triple black diamond tracks. Plus other parks in between and then my local 3-4 times a week. So far it's fine. Im 6"2 and weigh 95 kilos kitted up so it gets plenty of stress 🤣

When did you get yours? This year or last?

I just got mine a week ago

The paint on Giants isn't great now (though it is pretty) and t's 99.9% just that. Even if it is frame damage, Giant have a lifetime warranty on frames. I've had all sorts of bikes fail including Norcos, which were the worst actually.

I know 3 other people with these ebikes. We all use them at parks and steep trails. None have this paint cracking issue 1 orange, 1green and two white models.

If I compare the inside picture @Kevjob51 who has a smaller crack to @Endorium without crack and mine it looks like the two latter ones have clear signs high pressure being applied to the welding seam to weld the frame pieces together. On the other hand @Kevjob51 pressure welding seam does seem to lack the pressure dent at least on the cracked side of the frame.

A mate of mine has heard from his bike shop.
The latest is that Giant have used Aluminium filler aver the top of the weld if there is one? That’s why they are so smooth!

That's good then. Means they haven't grinded it down. So have they established it's just flex then?

Here in the picture a short explanation of what I meant above when saying that other side on @Kevjob51`s bike may not be welded too well…

Still nothing to say anything is actually structurally wrong. Just need to wait and see what giant themselves say. Given the thousands they sell seems it's only a small issue

Had mine in March
So realistically your particular bike is too new.
I was riding mine from December.
Also your paint colour indicates your bike lower spec version than all the others I've seen with cracks. Unsure whether that's a factor or not..... But maybe the reign 3 will not be affected, who knows at this point.....
Also mine has coil which may not help the issue by way of accelerating the break as spring was undespecced in first few rides and did have some bottom outs over some of the larger features.
Mine has done 645 miles of park riding and it's almost completely broken now its not just a hairline paint crack.
How many miles has yours done endorium?
I expect milage to also be a factor when combined with type of riding.
All things to consider before indicating people may be wrong about thier bikes.
Paint has more flex than metal generally with the exclusion of the latest versions of water based automotive paints. These tend to flake when they are broken and not crack via flexing.
Being a ripe old downhiller I can say that for the most part where there is cracked paint there are cracks under the paint allowing excess movement.
Good luck with your bike not being one of the ones that fail as I'm sure like me you love this bike Alot.
👍

I have done over a thousand miles and more than 15 bike parks. So that it's bought in march is irrelevant
