Decided to pick up one of these frames sets after receiving many enquiries through Instagram, EMTB Forums, EBR, etc.

Hopefully, this thread will be of use to anyone who is considering buying/building up one.

FULL DISCLAIMER
It was through Carbon Cycles on Ebay which I picked one up for the purposes of testing and they gave me a considerable discount due to my interests as well as publications of the Bafang Ultra M620 motor.
Dengfu 29er Ebike Carbon Frame Suspension BAFANG M620 1000W 150mm Travel E22 | eBay
It is to that reason why I'll refrain from delving into price heavily as I recognise that I did get one cheaper than advertised.
In addition, I am aware of existing ebikes such as the,

Luna Z1 and

Watt Wagon Hydra.
I would still reccomend reading through this thread as what I'll be discussing will be applicable to yourselves.

So I received my frame on the 7th February 2022 after ordering it on the 4th January 2022. Carbon Cycle were eager to ensure that I received the frame as quickly as possible before the Chinese holiday.
I order the frame which includes rear axle, seatpost clamp, headset, mech hanger, bushings for mounting the shock, shock bolts, power button, charging port for charging the battery on the frame, battery mount, keys, battery frame cover and screws and bolts for securing various cables inside and along the non-drive side chainstay.
20220210_115833.jpg

In addition, I also picked up one of the batteries which is a 48v17.5amp (850wh) along with a 3amp charger (I was of the belief it was sold with a 2amp charger so do with that information what you will).

It's at this point I will say, I did not buy the motor from them and I'll explain why in a short while

20220210_115854.jpg

For the purposes of testing, I have simply recycled my Fox DPX2 which came stock on my Status 160 (That bike is now running a Fox x2
20210722_135044.jpg 20210722_135051.jpg
We'll come back to the Status 160 in a short while aswell.

The rear shock requirements for the Dengfu E22 are 230x60. My DPX2 is 230x62.5.
PLEASE NOTE, this frame cannot be over-stroked to provide more rear wheel travel further than 150mm.
20220210_120112.jpg

Believe me, I have checked, double checked and even consulted a suspension expert who did the exact same test I did. THIS FRAME ONLY GIVES 150MM of rear wheel travel.
20220210_120558.jpg

I'll still be using the DPX2 but hopefully that's answered any enquiries as to available rear wheel travel subject to the stroke length.

The frame was pre-built with only the headset to install and the rear axle and seatpost clamp to go on. Funnily enough, I received a spare mech hanger which was nice (but again, its unclear whether this comes standard).
Incidentally for anyone who wants to know what axle to buy aftermarket,
20220210_120442.jpg

20220210_120448.jpg

Truth be told, I was somewhat surprised that the frame came assembled as I am use to building ebike frames from scratch.
IMG-20200127-WA0012.jpg IMG-20200127-WA0013.jpg
Nevertheless, it's at this point (especially to the Luna Z1 and Watt Wagon Hydra owners) where I say that I was shocked to find NO GREASE in the rocker link of the linkage area which secures the yoke made out of alloy where bearings are housed.
20220210_120720.jpg

20220210_120702.jpg

I'm not suggesting that this is a common trait. However, I would advise that you undo the linkage and check that grease has been used (AGAIN, in the rocker link which secures the yoke). On the plus side, blue loctite has been used on all 6mm and 5mm bolts around the frame hardware.

In addition, I have noticed an area where mud and grit could collect.
20220210_120608.jpg

When I get around to putting frame protection on, I'll take further pictures to illustrate where the build could occur.

The headset seems.........ok. I'll opt to use the Works components headset for this build.
The size Large (the biggest frame) has a headtube length of 135mm according to my tape measure (not 130). Regardless, the Works components headset will fit.
Screenshot_20220210-181241_Chrome.jpg
20220210_120015.jpg

I guess this brings us nicely to cable management. On the face of the headtube are 6 ports (3 on either side) to internally thread rear brake, gear outer cable, dropper cable and wire loom for display. The wire loom (harness) has a dedicated port. Leaving 5 ports available depending on your preference of cable arrangement.
20220210_120031.jpg

But please bare in mind that the dedicated port for the wire loom has been made to only allow 3 cables to ran through (ideally 2). This suggests that this particular frame has been built for the requirements of the CANBus protocol rather than the UART protocol.

REFER TO EBR for Canbus vs UART thread

Which I guess leads us nicely to the question,

Why didn't I buy the motor from Carbon Cycle?
Unfortunately, they couldn't give me confirmation as to which variant of the M620 motor would be supplied. For those who are unaware, their are (at the time of me writing this post), 10 variants of the M620 officially released from Bafang. If we were to add third party developers, custom mods by specific distributors and recognised mods from well known motor hackers, the list easily exceeds 25 variants to which I'm aware of.
Notwithstanding, you can buy the motor cheaper elsewhere and save up to a potential £150 (apologies if I seem UK biased but I suspect the same is true for those in Europe, America, Canada, Australia etc).
In addition, I'm somewhat convinced that the M620 motor supplied by Carbon Cycle would be a CANBus variant.
20220210_120148.jpg

On the flip side, mounting the motor looks more easier compared to my previous alloy frames where you would need to tap the bolts in and out using a mallet.
20220210_120309.jpg

As for the battery, I reserve judgement at this stage. However, I am somewhat perplexed as to why these new batteries weight near the same as an equivalent battery capacity Reention Darado battery. Baring in mind that whilst the Dorado battery is older, it is technically more sophisticated.
20220210_120040.jpg

But like I said, I'll reserve judgement for now.
20220210_120212.jpg

As to my reference concerning the Status 160, that bike does have an adjustable geometry flip chip located in the yoke itself. I'm currently liaising with someone to whether that same method of adjusting the geometry could be retrofitted to the Dengfu E22 frame. In addition (for the purposes of data), I'll be messing around with ofset bushes to simulate the geometry change between low, neutral and high. I'll keep you posted with my findings and any developments (especially if a particular position lends itself nicely to running either a 27.5, 29er or mullet).

Overall however, I am impressed. This frame (whilst it cant be over-stroked with its existing linkage), does show potential.
I'll keep you all posted as to the biggest dropper seatpost you can run slammed in the frame
20220210_120107.jpg

Supposedly, a One Up 210 dropper can fit but I'll reserve judgement until I pick one up this Saturday.
20220210_120619.jpg

May even treat myself to a Fidlock bottle cage as well.

Great info, thanks Neeko.
So is the loom for the motor, battery and controller all included and in place with the correct plugs?
Do the various motor versions all have a standard connector?
The wire loom would only be included if you buy the motor. However, the connector to attach the motor is installed onto the connector which is on the frame.
All M620 come with Anderson connectors so they simply plug together.

Is this a re-badged Dengfu E10 ? It looks pretty similar
The E10 , if I recall, ran a 210 x 55 shock .
This frame definitely uses a longer shock , am I understanding this correctly?"

Its similar to the E10 (made by the same people).
But this frame uses a different motor, rear shock and slightly different geometry.

They do share the same battery.

Once fully built, I'll compare and contrast to the E10.

Do they have motor for legal use in the UK? 😉
The M620 can be programmed to adhere to UK/European eapc legislations.
It's not difficult. However, the motor will need to be reprogrammed to use less power (and of course cap the speed to 15.5mph or 20mph).

Technically speaking, this will only allow the motor to produce a force of 120nm of torque. But my testing has revealed that the range (provided adequate gearing ratio is used) becomes much much better for what a 850wh battery should provide.

I'll go into more detail once I'm ready to install the motor as I'm just programming it as we speak.

Thank you for doing this. Following this thread very closely. Expecting my 18" E22 w/ UART in the coming weeks.

No paint or wrap? Just frame protection? If so, what are you planning to use? I do like the raw carbon.
Regarding the rear shock, someone said they were able to make 210x55 work. Thoughts?

I'll look into this. I have noticed that different shock lengths have been used for this frame.

My guess is subject to the shock length may increase/decrease the bottom bracket height and subsequently, the head tube angle.

But I'll play around with different shock lengths and share my findings 👍🏿

I'll be sure to update this thread and the CHEEB thread if I gauge any significant difference between the two frames in terms of geometry @Purpleaki.

I will say this, I am noticing discrepancies between the geometry outlined on the E22 vs my tape measure 😅. Whether this remains consistent throughout all frame sizes, I am noticing that the frame is a bit bigger than what is declared.

Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing, will depend on how a rider likes a bike to feel.

But I'll go into more detail once I've taken further pictures 👍🏿

Confirmed,
20220219_132649.jpg

a OneUp 210mm 31.6 dropper seatpost can be ran slammed into a large Dengfu E22.
20220219_132659.jpg

Although, I may opt to run a low profile saddle as even I (a rider of 6foot 3inches with a 35mm leg inseem), considers it long 😅.

I should have updated you all earlier but the motor mounted into the frame quite easily (compared to alloy frames).
20220219_132708.jpg

To emphasise this for anyone who has experience removing and mounting a M620 motor, nothing was required to tap the three securing bolts for the motor. Literally, the just slides through and the motor sits flush on the motor mount bracket (made out of carbon).
20220219_132822.jpg

I'll go into detail at a later date regarding the one peice spider/chainring for the M620. I'm just trying it out but atleast I've been able to ditch a kilogram of weight by not using the stock 130bcd steel chainring and spider.

Also, it is worth mentioning (referring back to the dropper seatpost, cable routing is more easier as you dont need to drop the motor to swap an inner cable. Provided you're careful & you've routed the cables through the frame where nothing is pinching or overlapping another cable, you can slide the outer cable for the dropper to gain access to the cable end at the seatpost.
20220219_135408.jpg

Just ensure that you undo the cable brackets with a 3mm allen key to allow the cables a bit of play to slide through the frame and tighten to ensure no cable slap within the downtube.

20220219_132834.jpg

Someone did ask me "what's the biggest water bottle you can run in the frame?'. With the DPX2 shock, a 500ml water bottle using a Specialized Z water bottle cage fits without issue. Naturally, running a rear shock which doesn't have a piggyback will allow you to run bigger water bottles.

20220219_133341.jpg

Nevertheless, everything electrically is working. And I've not needed to solder any connectors onto cables etc. It is literally, 'plug-n-play'.
20220219_133357.jpg

PLEASE NOTE, THE 500C DISPLAY IS ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH A UART PROTOCOL M620 NOT CANBUS.

Anywho, my Works Components headset will arrive next week so this gives me time to start putting the frame protection on the frame.
20220219_132759.jpg

I'll keep you all posted 👍🏿

Hello. I am very interested in this thread.
I was considering setting up something like this with the M600 but the problems derived from the CANBUS are increasing my interest in the M620.
I have a couple of questions:
All M620 work with UART protocol?
And the second asks:
Can someone tell me where to find this painting to send to Spain? I looked for Denfu on Alibaba and it doesn't have them in the catalog.

Hi @Tomteam,
Not all M620 motors are UART. The newest models are CANBus but the form factor for any variant of the M620 remains the same.

As for sourcing the Dengfu frames, their are many ways to obtain them. I've opted for ebay, primarily for buyer protection but you can source them via other methods and avenues.

Then I'll have to hurry up and try to get some of the rest. I'll start with the engine and then look for a frame. I think the CANBUS complicates things quite a bit.
I think the UART can be reprogrammed with the same cable as the BBS02, correct me if I'm wrong.

"I think the UART can be reprogrammed with the same cable as the BBS02, correct me if I'm wrong."

You are correct. It is not clear whether Bafang will be manufacturing the M620 any longer in UART. Contact Luna Cycles in California for that info?

Looking good Neeko. I had my motor out to grease it and suggest that you check yours for grease also because it had very little in there.....I used what is called Corn Head Grease that was recommended to me and it worked great but probably hard to source in the UK. It quieted down the motor enough to notice for sure.

My shock doesn't have a piggy back but might go there at some point. In the meantime I was able to mount one of my King Cage's and SS bottle. Nice being able to have a bottle on board and it has been awhile for me.

Development of a standard case battery that is a better performer than the standard 48v/17.5ah/840wh/18650/30A battery has resulted in a sample order of a 48v/15ah/720wh/21700/40A and a 52v/15ah/780wh/21700/40A. Both less wh's but with better lower voltage performance. Should know within the month how they perform. Same battery case as the E10 frame uses also btw. But as clean as the integrated battery looks it does inhibit having any more wh's than the stock 840. But the problem with my stock battery is that I am only getting 700wh's of usable energy out of it so if nothing else I'll have two batteries for long days in the saddle.

Which creates a problem on at least my medium size frame because there is no way to carry the 2nd battery in the obvious looking spot on top of the dt with the bottle gone. It won't fit under the shock mount but it will on the large frame my friend has so we are going to work up a way for that to happen. I am looking at a back pack but the only ones they make with a back protector (good idea) are made over there at this point. Not a big deal but hard to get one in hand to check if it will work for me. Expensive also.....

Looking forward to your riding impressions after getting it built up. Mine rides well for me but I have had little experience with 150mm travel type FS bikes of any sort and it does keep blowing me away on how it eats up the gnar with confidence. Just point and pedal!

Good call @Mabman. Indeed, I did check the motor before installing it. It wasn't necessary before installing as it is brand nnew. But the motor was reprogrammed 👍🏿
Mabman is correct @Tomteam, UART protocol bafang motors only requires the same cable usee for the BBS Series motor. The configuration tool (the program) is different as you can amend torque values.
In addition, you have more choices for displays for the UART protocol compared to CANBus.

But I digress, I should be in a position to have a shakedown ride next week once fully built and frame protected.

It's not finished,
20220223_154335.jpg

But you get the gist as to what it looks like built.

Huge huge shout out to Works components for the 2 degree angle headset.
20220223_154402.jpg

I know they've been very busy so I appreciate the speed in which they shipped the headset out to me 👍🏿.

I've gotta say, the level of craftsmanship which has gone into these headsets is outstanding.
20220223_143853.jpg

Instructions as to the orientation of both the upper and lower headcup installation can be found on their website. Other than that, it installs just like any other headset.

20220223_144016.jpg

20220223_144026.jpg

The end result allows this Dengfu E22 frame to have a default headtube angle of 64° when ran with a 160mm travel fork (27.5 or 29) compared to the original 66°.
20220223_154347.jpg

Currently, the bike is rocking a 63.3° headtube angle as ive slapped on a spare Lyrik RC 180mm travel fork. I will be running my spare Fox 36 instead as it'll be a good match with the Fox DPX2 shock.

Nevertheless, the geometry table doesn't really answer the question concerning reach.
20220223_154633.jpg

This large has a reach of 496mm according to my tape measure. Paired with a 50mm DMR Defy 35 stem, it does feel big!! I may opt for the 35mm variant instead 😀.

One thing I will touch up on is BB height. Take note that over-forked, and running 27.5x2.8 Michelin E wild tyres front and rear, the BB height is 330mm!!!
20220223_154415.jpg

I can see now, why so many people have asked me for rrecommendations concerning aftermarket crank arms compatible with the M620 motor.

Personally, I opt for the Raceface Aeffect cranks as it reduces the Q-factor when compared to the stroke 170mm bafang ISIS cranks. But has sufficient clearance on the non-driveside of the motor to not fowl it through pedalling.

Anywho, I'll keep you all posted.

Its looking great! Apparently there are nothing to interfere the headset cup insertion in the E22? I am told that insertion depth in the E10 is 8-9 mm so Works headset doesn´t go all the way in... That is a shame.

Wow, I didn't know that.
Granted, this is the first frame I've used the Works Components headset on.

I'll bare that in mind when building up my Bafang M510 project bike 👍🏿

Great progress.
I have already ordered my m620 UART protocol and I will be attentive to your sensations when you try the set.
Regarding the second battery. I have recently found new battery formats, some really compact ones like this one:
25.46£ 41% de DESCUENTO|Caja de batería de bicicleta eléctrica Dolphin, tubo de bajada corta, 52 Uds., 18650 celdas, 48v, 36v, caja de batería de ion de litio|Batería de bicicleta eléctrica| - AliExpress
Carrying a battery on your back is very annoying

There is a gentleman here in the US that has a M620 FS Carbon Frame bike with a 24Ah home made 18650 cell battery that weighs a bit less than 60lbs..

In a way it was kind of by accident that I ended up with an E22 frame/M620 bike and if I was going to do it over again I would find out more about that frame and perhaps follow his lead because 24ah would be just about right for 99% of my ride experiences and that bike weighs less than mine @ 63lb. with a 17.5ah. Not to mention the fact that he also has a 35Ah battery to fit. Nor the possibility of smaller batteries for lower Km rides. The integral battery of the E22 is in comparison a very limiting feature.

The M620 UART motor is a good choice I am finding out because of its programmability. My learning process is slow but all that I have learned so far and done with it has been very positive over the stock tune it came with which I was not impressed with at all.

Am I seeing it correctly that your bottom cup isn't pressed all the way in? And I was wondering is there a lip to restrict insertion?

Is that the frame of a fat bike with 29" wheels?

That is what it looks like to me but I don't have the details on who made the frame? Also it wouldn't really matter if it was made as a fat bike, plus or 29" wheel capable frame because the battery capacity ability would remain the same. It must be a lighter platform than the E22 though as by my eye the components are not biased towards lighter weight than what is on my bike. With the extra Ah cell weight of approximately 1.5kg though how it is in effect 6 lbs lighter comparably is not known.

Its a bit of a hodge/bodge but we'll make it work
20220224_182448.jpg

11 speed Sunrace 11-50t cassette with a Shimano 12 speed SLX M7100 derailleur and a shimano 11 Speed SLX M7000 shifter.

The links required for the chain however is obscured!!!

128 link chain is what I'm counting. And it's still too small 😅

Products such as E22 and E10 are still regionally restricted products and cannot be put on the shelves. If you need to purchase, just communicate with the sales staff directly. Look for dengfu stores, or baolijia stores; they are all dengfu direct stores.

Whilst I'm reminded that I'm running 27.5x2.8 Michelin E-Wilds front & rear.

Nevertheless, 63.7 degree headtube angle with a 170mm travel fork

75.5 degree seat tube angle.

I'm gonna adjust some parameters within the motor tune.

The motor ramp up seems a bit too sudden when climbing. Notwithstanding the 330mm bottom bracket height.
