Nice idea, I really would like to do something like this for my own Cube also! Is it easy to remove & install the original cover, just those 4 screws open and that's it..?

I was also thinking if 2mm aluminium plate would be enough, or maybe some 4-5mm PE plastic etc. What do you think?
Cover on the 2020 stereo is held on by just 3 fastenings - 2 at front and 1 at the rear/side. Haven’t tried mine in anger yet, but thought 2mm would be a good start and bendable given my limited metalwork skills. At just £2.60 (incl postage !) it’s worth trying to protect probably the most vulnerable part of the bike. Btw, shame Cube and others don’t put something there as std. I ride a BMW 1200 GSA motorcycle with a whacking big metal sump guard as std
!!

Hello Jardoon
You can get them from bike-discount.de
  • 18-05599 / 3151 (COVER_motor-20_HY-P4-FSV-CA) Stereo Hybrid HPC
Probably from other shops to.

But i do not understand why Cube would make a plastic skid cower on a 24kg e-bike?
I am building me a aluminium skid plate, when i get my bike back from a repair/service.
Regards

They look pretty nice.

Has anyone tried one of these anodised ones from eBay? They look pretty good but without any product reviews I wasn't sure if they work well. I've just ordered my 140 TM today and have 4 weeks to wait before I get it. So looking to get a motor guard before the first ride.

What I have done is skin the original bash plate in carbon fibre. The cloth and epoxy cost under $100 (CAD) That got me enough to do at least four covers in 2 layers. Super easy to work with. I tried fibreglass first and that was a nightmare, looked awful and broke after first hit. make sure you scuff up the plastic real good before you glue down the first layer. This is my first attempt and it came out looking pretty nice and shiny . These pics are after quite a few rides and a few hits and scrapes and it’s holding up very well. It’s not perfect but it’s a hell of a lot better than that Cube piece of crap.
I've been waiting on a new cover for four months now and will cover that one too. Maybe 3 layers and see how that works

Looks nice!
What's the thickness of the carbon sheets?
How did you applied them? Just epoxy resin or also heating/drying?

Not sure about the thickness, they call it 5.8 oz. so I glued the first layer to the original shell then epoxy then another sheet then more epoxy. Just air dry.It looked fabulous just like that without sanding

I fitted one of these to my 160 SL from new. First ride it did it's job when I whacked the underside off a rock and scarred the alu plate rather than destroying the plastic cover. Secured via two longer bolts at the front and some 3M velcro at the back. Pretty happy with it.

Thanks for that. I think I’ll give it a go.

finally got a new motor guard from Cube and immediately skinned it with 2 layers.Definitrly getting better at it but still can’t get the folds perfect. Made sure the folds are at the back so not too obvious. It added 40 grams to it if anyone cares. 2 layers carbon and 3 layers epoxy
