Hello everyone. m510 arrived. built-in and tested. a faster engine reaction is immediately felt. stronger power supply on uphills. if some details are still being worked out, let's hope so. on some hills it even delivers too much power at low revs. but you need to get used to it. at some moments 2 and 3 level the engine stops at low cadences when there is no load, when going from uphill to straight. but for the most part there is an improvement and a stronger supply of power on the hills. before on a hill quite steep m500 was the same 4 or 5 level. now the difference is felt. lower battery consumption! now shows in the application bafanggo and bms from the battery similar voltages. and they fixed that part. these are the impressions after the first run of 20 km and 1000m altitude. consumed 40% of the 480wh battery. I will write more comments after another ride.

Great review 👌😏. Can you tell us if you compared the new m510 with the m500 with the original firmware or the stronger 13a firmware many of us installed? Would be great if comparison is made with the m500 and 13a firmware

Do you know if the new chainguide can be purchased anywhere? My m510 will arrive soon but i ordered only the motor. Thanks
I've been running my M600 right through the winter ( where the chain guide is needed most due to the sticky mud and the likes covering the gears ), having removed the chain guide and fitting the motor with a simple 104BCD narrow wide gear without a single derail. You may want to try it as the £ 10.00 gear seems good value over a chain guide.

Just learned that the M510 requires M16x1 treaded crank bolt instead of M15 with M500. M16x1 is almost impossible to source. Go back to where You ordered the engine and ask for supply of crank bolts if they are not supplied with the motor!

we cant pull firmware from engine so far
here are currently avaiable firmwares collected by multiple users:

a word about versioning - the firmwares are not superseeding each other, that means the higher version does not mean new version or better firmware, it does mean the different firmwarer coded to different needs.

Not very smart bafang on their policy, may be it is existing a firmware valid for expect of each of us in all rev available ? but without any information on characteristic impossible to know wich and everybody don't appreciate to test ten firmware to find the better for is use

This crank bolt. The spline (axle outside) remains unchanged, but the hollow Axle has M16x1 tread instead of M15.
Thanks to @ficorama for the early warning 😊

I was just about to make a comment about bafang not sticking to standards but I thought this cartoon expressed it better:

Although M16x1mm seems super weird M16x1.5 I can maybe understand, but x1mm WTF!

I'm guessing I'm going to need one of these and some M16 bolts with a smooth top bit to cut down if I lose mine when the motor shows up:

here are the results of today's ride. the engine is a beast. there are some minor flaws. sometimes in 1pas it does not give enough strength as if it needs to be warmed up a bit. as far as I noticed only when the engine starts, not while driving. from 1pas to 5pas the power is noticeably stronger, a really big improvement. at the start a little too strong power delivery, but you need to get used to it. battery consumption very good. today 33 km, 1400met altitude pas1-pas4, battery 480wh remaining 10% battery. all forest trails, lots of steep uphills. I hope this helped.

Have you tried touching the engine by hand to feel if there is noticeable heat after steep uphills?

Thanks. could you try to recover the firmware of your motor from your dealer to share with us ?
