lol at gram counters on e bikes. Fun fact, bikes without motors and batteries weigh less than e bikes. You worried about weight, ride a meat powered bike.
Looking at the weight doesn’t mean I’m worried about it. I wouldn’t buy it if I was. But since this is an enthusiast forum, weight is a factor (among others) in both handling and distance. And as an enthusiast I’m curious about the factors that go into the weight. Is that okay with you?

The extra weight was needed, I have seen 2 cracked Rail frames and trek increased the travel on the new rail. More travel generally means people are going to ride them harder.

If I am racing bio then I am concerned about grams overall. On a full-power ebike not so much, but I am concerned about performance and counting grams on rotational and unsprung mass is critical. I have run 170mm forks on my rails for last four years and stroked the shock to 62.5mm.

For a given price point manufacturers should be selling us Al frames with carbon wheels instead of carbon frames with Al wheels.

Strangely, these bikes are already being delivered in at least limited quantities in Europe, but there are absolutely no ride reviews anywhere.
It looks like one of the most interesting new Bosch gen5 bikes; the only strange thing is the big gap between M (450mm reach) and L sizes (490 mm reach). Anyway, any fresh owners out there, let us know your thoughts.

My ideal reach is 460 mm and ideal size ML so would 'fall through the crack'. Will stay with what I have, 2022 Rail 5 (alloy) L, even with that had to mess around with the cockpit. Wife's 2022 Rail 5 (alloy) M definitely too small for me.

Indeed strange. No mention of them on the US site, either. Would be nice if @gfunkmc gave a ride report of it. Curious to hear about it.

Slide your saddle back on its rails and add 10 mm to your stem …… maybe get a different bar rise….. what’s the problem?

This is the 5th rail IV had over last 5 years so safe to say I get on with them ..IV had XL and large in both alloys and carbon .. this one's a alloy in large .. wasn't impressed that they changed to mullet only coming from full 29 and not impressed they changed the shock size as I usually buy a low spec bike and put all my components on there so had to buy a new shock and build a 27.5 rear wheel ... Didn't think it would ride that differently than the other 4 rails IV had but I was wrong .. this thing rips 🔥🔥.. got it in the low setting ATM with no peddle clearance issues it corners real well and feels plush and planted .. the changes to cable routing, seattube angle and toptube angle are good too

To be fair Sliding the seat back can put you too far back for climbing and a longer stem slows the steering down so for me thats a compromise because the frames the wrong size (y)

Theres no doubt they have dropped the ball with the massive jump between M and L on the new models
so it will be the last trek rail i buy for a long time .

Sliding the saddle back on the rails is good for about a degree seat post angle so saying you are too far back is a bit off. As someone that has an upper body that is size medium reach but legs that are a size small standover I have been making bikes fit all my life. You ether try to make the bike fit or move on. Maybe trek is not your brand.

Thats the problem the last bike sizing was fine but they have buggered this one up with the massive jump from M to L
And as i said i wont be buying the next gen solely on bike fit
Your frame has to be right the adjustment should be very slight not an adjustment to make the wrong frame work
We are all different thou but personally i wont except the wrong frame with all the choices about i dont have brand loyalty so it will always be the best fit frame wise for me first (y)

Thanks a bunch for the notes! I appreciate it. I'm on the hunt for something new and the Rail is on my list. I have been watching Gen4's (and the price reductions) but waiting for the Gen5's to come out in the US to get a better sense for pricing, spec, etc. (yeah, I've checked the sites outside of the US for spec so there shouldn't be any surprises). If you have any comments specifically about a Gen4 comparison to a Gen5, shoot me a DM.

I saw a new GEN5 Rail in ALU version (Italy) unfortunately I forgot to take pictures...
Still open questions on Gen 5
Why the weight is higher compared to previous versions?
Why battery consimption seems to be equivalent (or even worse) compared to GEN4?

I was interested on 9.8 GXAXS, available only in this colour .... thathas a kind of "white dots... dandruff" on lower part of the chassis... the bike seems always DIRTY!!

My current Rail 9.9 (2020) probably will continue to run for at least 1 year.... lighter than the new Gen5!

Sliding your saddle back doesn't impact reach.... it only influences effective top tube feel. Reach is the horizontal distance between a vertical line from the center of bb and center of HT. Using a longer stem can help mitigate incorrect reach but also impacts steering.

first STATIC impressions on a Rail + vs. previuos model.

better components with lower price
battery consumption higher... but motor has better response (?)
similar weight

I'm still suspicious to invest money in a new model....

I see a lot of complaints about sizing. Ive never understood MTB sizing jumps, im 6,2 got into the sport in 2016, my ideal size is 485mm. Now every XL bike is 500+ and the larges are 475ish. There is always a lot of complaints around large sizing, but larges are often bought by people from the 5,7-5,11 height ranges

I've got a canyon and a trek now as these bikes larges are in my sweet spot. Levos i can either ride a tiny 475mm or a boat of a 507mm. Yes, you can change stems but the bike size is still huge.

On topic the new trek is very nice! just not as nice as my canyon that cost half the price.
