So what are:

"the battery disconnect issues that have plagued older gens."?

Do you have any links?

And out of interest, what is your bike?
🤣 Boot. Other. Foot springs to mind. Think back to your Amflow posts. Don’t like it when other people criticise your pride and joy but happy to dish it out!

I've now had mine a couple of weeks and first repoirts are its great.
Ive come from a Yeti SB160E and previously a Rail Gen4.
The motor is solid and does what you expect (still a little noisey on the downs)
I've never really gel'd with Mixed Wheels before but this feels more like a 29er and does not feel like its slowing you down.

Anything you want to know please just ask :)

What did you not like about the 160e?

You mentioned having a Gen4; how would you compare that with this new (and gorgeous) Gen5? Wondering specifically about: Battery and whether it rattles as has been mentioned elsewhere for older models, differences between the motor feel, other ride comparison thoughts that you wish to share.

I'm coming from a Spectral:ON w/ an EP801 (sold back to Canyon, long-ish story) and need to find something else. Rail is my top choice. I think I want a Gen5 but those aren't available in my size/location until June (per Trek). I could get a good deal on a Gen4 but I'm hesitant about the battery rattling and being a gen behind.

Hi, The motor has a much more natural feel to it, more like the EP801 which is a good thing in my eyes.
Battery lift is fantasic and no rattle or noises from the battery.
The motor feels stronger across the cadance range and my times on the Gen5 Rail and significantly faster that the Gen 4 rail, both up and down.

Interesting! Agree that the EP801, for me at least, felt good overall. You mentioned that the Gen5 is closer than a Gen4 --> that pretty much makes up my mind to wait for the Gen5 to become available. Gonna be difficult to be sitting on the sidelines until then once the trails open up for the season.

About cadence, are you a fast, mid or slow cadence rider?

Thank you for the feedback!
