Actually you don’t need to violate the warrenty if the motor was obtained directly from Shimano. But you need to be present at a certified Shimano dealer with expertise in firmware to get USA not eu class I installed ( 20 mph s 15 mph. ). I learned this the hard way. I’m riding with the eu set...
So is any bike with or without a motor actually warranted for use in a big big park with the kind of jumps I see videos of? There is even a big bike park build in conjunction with the city of Elk Grove , ca that I’ve been to with a friend who could ride it that seems to be pretty big. I’m too...
Quick ? Do those that tank motors with low miles ( replaced mine at 5k miles) blow through the suspension and bottom out?? my guess is if you should land a huge jump and bottom it out and now your motor is broken I don’t think that Shimano‘s design fault! That sounds kind of similar to taking...
Watch the tear down and rebuild by the Scotsman. The Shimano motor likewise needs the bearings replaced but the design including the circuit boards make it extraordinarily difficult. It wasn’t designed to be rebuilt.
I’ve read every scrap of info on repairing Shimano motors including the rebuild by the Scotsman posted on YouTube. Even if spare parts including the small circuit boards that are interspersed and integrated into the very compact design were available, few individuals could reliably rebuild the...
Actually the second motor was gotten via COMMENCAL direct from Shimano maybe 6 months ago. It’s my impression that they continue to make the e8000. I could be wrong. If someone is thinking about relaxing the motor with a new unit and it is actually available, plan on a complete rebuild of the...
I’m not disagreeing but I figured the battery or something shorting out due to water being a conductor was something that I could minimize. I have never as I recall directly hosed down or submerged the motor. Even in NorCal that makes creek crossings problematic when they are running high.
Granted I have the old style removable e8010 battery, but if I’m going to apply water to bike I always remove the battery ,wash , dry, wait overnight and keep bike in a warm place to totally dry out on the fear that water will short circuit something. I have zero proof that this is a good idea...
Correct Shimano motors are not serviceable. I replaced my e8000 at 5k miles all sorts of clunking started for the last 500 miles. Motor was $1200 direct from Shimano. 2019 model year so approx $300/year without installation. That’s in my acceptable range. Not much different than what 5k miles...
I used to think of it your way. I contacted the Scotsman who produced a detailed tear down and rebuild of an e8000 motor and he demurred on taking on a repair. Then I located a place in the SE USA who had the actual bearings but would attempt to rebuilt for 2/3 the price of a new motor but no...
I was off my ebike for some spine surgery. Went for a ride 8 weeks post op in on and off heavy rain and hail on the clementine loop in Auburn,CA. IT WAS ESPECIALLY squirrelly with the motor threatening to seize at any moment. Thinking it was time for a
Change I got it all prepared to ship to...
2018 e8000 drive train. Bearings or most likely the internal speed sensor mechanism are starting to make serious clunking noises. I have actually bought a brand spanking new e8000 motor direct from Shimano via COMMENCAL USA. I’m waiting for the current motor to go completely kaput ( hopefully...
So I actually bought a brand new in the original box e8000 motor. COMMENCAL USA ordered it for me and shipped it to my home $1200. So now I’m still riding the original clanker but keep to motor with me. If and when it locks up etc I’m gonna to put it all in a box and send it to COMMENCAL to...
Well there are also 3.0 surley wldirt wizzards. I had them on last spring in Sedona but hoping for some wet wet NorCal weather I put on a new 2.8 dhr2 in may and stored the dirt wizard and now that the dhr2 is too worn I put the dirt wizard back on.
Alternatively, If you want slower steering dhr front and faster steering dhf. It’s actually quite noticeable. Climbing rocky rutted stuff in boost, I imagine is where some kind of damper could be a plus.
