So 2 months and 200 miles in…550 error! Ffs

So as per the title really, been thoroughly enjoying my Trek Rail. It’s not been problem free. 2 weeks in the freehub shat itself, but otherwise it’s been great. Sadly today after a particularly minging couple of days riding I have been greeted with a 550 error message. As I understand it...

    Anti theft.......maybe!

I use one of these, which isn’t going to stop any one who has planned to steal my bike. But stops the opportunist. Well it would slow them down enough for me to catch them. it’s super lightweight and small so sits nicely in a pack...

    Trails on Trial

Sorry Gary, my comment wasn’t aimed at your post. Regardless, I want aware of the history of I’m honest. Although it doesn’t surprise me. I do agree with you completely around the access laws south of the border. My local XC loop as an example is on a privately owned cotswold hill. Access is...

    Trails on Trial

I’m not sure it’s a mess, I just think MTB is still relatively* new and the explosion in participation in recent years has accelerated traffic everywhere. Education is what’s needed across all user ship groups. There are knobbers in all user groups, sadly I do see the sense of entitlement and...

Knock-Block failed - Trek Rail 9.8 carbon frame damage

I have a knock block on my Rail. But my Zeb Ultimates are nowhere near the down tube on my large frame. I mean not even close.

Article New Alloy Levo – First Look

I disagree, because unless you are a mincer you’ll soon realise how woefully poor the fork is on the £6300 base model. So will be out shopping again for a £1000 decent fork. Then you’ll be kicking yourself as you run out of power way before all of your riding mates who all ride cheaper bikes...

    Frame Problem

That’s cracked, get it warrantied. Yes it’s a pain to be without a bike. But it needs sorting! Currently if and when you decide to sell/upgrade no one is going to touch the bike and ‘the shop said it’s thick and not to worry’ wouldn’t wash!

Completely agree, glad I didn’t wait for one of these now. Terrible spec for the money...even against brands such as Trek.

    Rail motor mud protection

Telling me! But then I’m surprised bikes sold in the U.K. have some of the bearing setups and frame designs we do! I’ll bet in our summer months we get a day when overheating may be a problem. But I’ll live with that as the compromise for having a better sealed engine unit 😂

    Rail motor mud protection

Thanks, I’ll do the same for this weekend I think. Glad I’m not the only one with the concern/problem.

    Rail motor mud protection

Yes motofoam would be a good shout, or gluing some stainless fly screen mesh to the under/inside of the sump guard. I will give some motofoam a go I think.

    Rail motor mud protection

Yes that’s a great shout. I’ll whack some on. I do wonder if one of these would help limit the amount getting inside: https://protect-emtb.com/product/bash-guard-trek-rail-model-9-7-5-black-with-bolts/ or if I should experiment with some form of fine mesh over the slots/cut outs. I’m never...

    Rail motor mud protection

Hi guys, After some advice from those of you who have owned their rails for a while. As those in the U.K. will know, over the past few weeks it’s been wet, as such the trails I ride are claggy as hell and the bike is often plastered at the end of a ride. The issue I have is the motor guard...

What's your take on "ebike" specific components?

Only thing I quite like is the single shift SRAM shifters. Just stops me from ham fisted shifting under load across multiple gears. But even then it’s only really a problem if you are a pleb like me. The rest of it is a bit of a joke in my limited experience. But the I have been riding for...

So my order arrived last week, no additional charges and no additional fuss! Took a little longer getting through customs clearance. But otherwise spot on!

What did you buy your ebike this week?

I’ve had the original for 9 years now. They got a bit of hate originally based on them breaking and lack of spares. But mine has been absolutely faultless. Deffo worth the money

    Change cassette on Rail 5

My friend ran an e13 cassette for several year so. His manual bike. I would happily run one, but if I remember correctly they are quite expensive. Not sure you’d need the 9t, that’s a very small cog so would wear quickly, but given ebikes are limited assistance to around 16mph (well they are...

    Change cassette on Rail 5

I would personally go for a cassette with the range that’s cheapest to replace. I’m running the standard SX cassette, the range is perfect if not a little more than is needed. Given the ridiculous cost of a replacement 12 speed cassettes I’ll plump for the best value option. Also understanding...
