I’m thinking a modular approach might alleviate cost/reliability concerns about a unit construction, much like Triumph pre-unit engines were designed. Gearboxes are likely to be more reliable than motors, so why not make the motor a replaceable component with a backplane
No need to replace all the seals if you do the basic maintenance regularly (6-12 months) - the seals will last much longer. Buy some oils and Slickoleum and spend an hour servicing your suspension. Feels so much better for it and oil doesn't cost much. It's not rocket surgery.
Having been running events for 17yrs; I can totally understand the organisers rationale. XC races, esp short course events typically don’t have a plethora of passing opportunities and emtb will always have a significant uphill speed advantage. The two codes do not mix well in my experience.

It’s a better result than the Trek examples for sure, but a destroyed derailleur from a branch isn’t a great result. The old bendy hanger may well have preserved your mech. What’s an AXS mech worth these days?
