Risk reduction. Same reason people choose to wear FF helmets and googles, but not elbow pads.
You can reduce your exposure to small device fires by not charging them overnight, unplugging them after charging, using a fire-proof wallet, not charging next to curtains/bedding etc. And if you are...
My Trek guy who does all of their warranty repair work here suggests drilling and tapping the bracket mounts out to M6. Trek made a running change to M6 in 2022/23, which is an acknowledgement that the original M5 screws were under-spec'd.
I'm not sure most fires are due to 'cheap' batteries. Samsung phones batteries, Sony laptop batteries etc aren't exactly cheap by definition and they have been implicated in many fires. A neighbor of a friend in my town had their new Range Rover PHEV burn their house down recently.
My point is...
Anyone found a good solution that doesn't cost $3000 (like the Dutch boxes)?
Old filing cabinet or decommissioned oven? I'm thinking an oven would be good - heat proof and accessible - add vents and a charging port... bada bom.
Super shonky shop. Failing to point out that damage was highly unethical. A head tube is the strongest tube on the frame so damage like that is not insignificant, as everyone else has said…
Do shops actually trade second hand bikes where you are? It's never been common in NZ, but with the heavy depreciation of s/h ebikes it may become a thing just to get bikes moving...
Sorry clouded my assertion - FR 541 is a rim designed for DH, which is perfect for an emtb, even though said emtb is being used for general trail riding. DT Swiss designed the FR 541 to be very similar to the HX 531 which they label as an ebike rim. There's method to it, it's not just...
Simple physics - stronger rims more resistance to damage. Obviously you don't need them but those of us who don't spend all our time on grade 2 flow trails certainly do...
Here's a good analysis of the FR541 by an actual professional wheelbuilder (which is NOT ebike specific BTW)...
I had a set of Duroc 40 on an Ibis HD4 and they didn't last long before splitting around the spoke nipples. Freehub also gave out. My HV2 on a Trek Rail have been very good and taken a real pounding - a full week's worth of bike park resulted in a few dings and I had to completely retension, but...
Don’t like riding wet trails (track builder for over 15 years). Like it even less on an ebike (electrical engineering background).
If you turn bikes over within the warranty period; go for it. Just don’t complain when the motor stuffs out and your trails are trashed.
I try to only replace things as they break/wear out or they are good value functional improvements.
My bargain 7 has a bargain Nukeproof Horizon V2 wheel set to replace the demolished Bontragers. Charger 2.1 damper and 170mm air spring to make the Yari work. OneUp 200mm post, 38mm carbon riser...
