Yes, it's definitely impressive. But this side bulge and their talk of needing space between the mounting holes which isn't available on some frames, hints at the difficulty that this "standard" imposed on them.
For me it is the charging port (and a common "handshake" protocol) that really...
The way these cranks "work" is quite interesting. If you look at an unused crank-arm and the axle of the motor they are really quite different. The axle has teeth with curves between them and the arms are angular. Once you install the arm for the first time (which is much harder than any...
A single (or even a few) motor mount is very unlikely I think.
Gearbox options like Pinion's MGU are hopefully going to become the norm, and squeezing all this into the same space as just a motor is very restricting.
Intra-drive are trying to do this, but to get the space they need they have...
Standards don't have to be regulations.
One thing I think we could all agree on is charging..
If there was one open standard for a charging port then it would be hugely beneficial.
Shops, cafes and towns could install bike chargers and we could do longer routes without having to carry a huge...
If, someone made a bike and said "We are going to support and develop this mounting and connection arrangement for the next 5 years and will make all the new parts available to buy so you can upgrade" I think they would get a lot of sales.
In fact, it's the sort of move I can see forcing others...
Guide is fun too. Did a week with Ride Southern Spain last year on normal bikes and it was a lot of fun, but being tied to the group and uplift makes for a very different experience to just exploring on your own on ebikes and staying on the bike all day.
Agreed.
When a new bike comes out with a more slender downtube or a motor that looks like a normal BB then the bike journalists are all over it. If you restrict these things then that goes out the window.
You also need to consider cell options and voltages as these are going to be a big...
Drove to Finale earlier in the year with the ebikes. 3 people in a Tesla with free supercharging. Just under a 24hour drive each way (including charging and tunnel etc). Well worth it though. Some days we just rode from the house but on several we got a single uplift at the start of the day to...
Ride concept hellions here too. But wider than 5-10s which is nice for me. Great shoes.
Had the specialized, they were fine but zero toe protection which was painful and they started falling apart relatively quickly compared to the ride concepts.
When my gen1 motor got loose I took it to the dealer who confirmed the was a problem and started the warranty process but then I could take it back and carry on riding it until the new motor came in, so I didn't need to be without the bike for much more than a day.
I'm sure they're serviceable, just not easily user serviceable?
Not many motors that are, and not many gearboxes that are. So if you compare this to a Bosch or Shimano motor, and a Pinion or Internal hub gear, what's the difference?
If a derailleur equipped ebike has a motor issue you are...
2kg is a lot.
The problem is that when you add 2kg to the motor and battery you possibly need to add a little bit of weight to everything else to account for it.
I've made quite a lot of changes to my LevoSL to get the weight down from about 19kg to 18.5kg without compromising on tyres etc and...
Efficiency could all be down to how the power is sent to the motor, or there could be a subtle change to the windings that you can't see from a basic tear down, they might have changed the gear ratios very slightly so the motor spends more of it's time in the more efficient speed range; or yes...
I'm amazed they didn't change the frame at least to allow a longer dropper. Maybe they had a ridiculous amount of stock and just did a quick upgrade? Maybe a proper KSL2.1 will drop next year?
Very interesting, thanks for sharing.
Looks like they let some automated design optimisation software loose on it, shame it didn't think to include a means to tension the first chain run...
My cut down cranks are still running great and I really like them so I wont be changing.
But, for the benefit of anyone else searching, had an email yesterday that the 160mm ones are back in stock with the UK distributor, though the link they sent still shows them as out of stock:-...
