Same - my eMTB mates all said don't worry about the cost because you forget as soon as you ride it out the door . . and they were right!
And strangely now I have one I have no desire at all to ride a motorbike.

I know it's a free market and supply/demand plus competition controls prices but I still can't fathom why a motorbike is so much cheaper. Look at the Tony Bou replica trials bike - alloy frame, monoshock rear, telescopic forks, hydraulic disk brakes - all the same tech but a highly sophisticated...
The big advantage is you can ride much further, on steeper trails and more often with an eMTB and if you have any single track aspirations at all then full suss is a no-brainer.
Cheap tarp off t'interweb plus an old sheet on top - I can remove front wheel then lift bike in/out my hatchback without sliding it. The sheet takes most of the mud etc and gets put in the washing machine when it's minging. Some mates use a small portable washer to remove heavy mud etc before...
High voltage side is insulated from low voltage side plus plenty of smoothing - plug everything before powering up. Bike first if the mains is unswitched.
I have a Raleigh, battery never goes flat ever because it doesn't have one and suspension never needs a service for same reason - and this is progress?? 😂
