Maybe some perspective is required, because everyone seems to get hung up about grammes whilst not seeing the fact that they're carrying a spare 5kg around their waste.
My lad's got a medium sized Levo SL Comp Alloy, with similar bits added such as lights, mudguards and Cushcores etc. and the...
I just thought I'd post an update...
I bought one of these and have been riding it for a couple of months now.
I wanted to get enough riding in to form an opinion before expressing it.
Anyway, I love it. The suspension in particular is incredible. I thought the Fox Factory stuff on my Giant...
I'm hoping to actually build a motor testing Dyno. Nothing too elaborate but enough to be able to make comparisons without the human or biased element. Probably test at three or four different cadences, whilst measuring input and output torque along with current.
I'm already working on...
I suppose it ultimately comes down to what's important to the individual.
For me, serviceability and component availability were important because I'll be doing my own maintenance.
Bosch is currently the best mainstream motor overall I think, but they (and Shimano) have really bad warranty...
I suppose ultimately, the best range over time will more come down to how you ride (cadence, power etc), how well your riding style suits the efficiency range of the motor and how well you look after your battery.
The trouble with 'tests' such as that is the thing that is the biggest variable is the human being sat on the bike. If you did four tests of the exact same bike you'd get four different results because humans are generally very poor at repeatability in random terrain environments, taking...
I've redone the wiring so it's completely waterproof, and fully stripped and rebuilt the bike with a focus on waterproofing everything possible.
I've also fitted an AXS derailleur and 12 speed cassette, cushcores, OneUp bars, Shimano icetech discs and I will be fitting Magura MT7s (which I...
Fulgur Mula
I chose to change a few things on it, mostly because of the extremely wet nature of the places we ride mostly, but on the whole it's an incredible bike.
The EXT suspension is just unreal once it's set up. I always thought that the Fox factory stuff on the Giant was good (but then I...
I chose to look beyond the 'big 4' brands and bought a bike with the Polini EP+ MX motor.
So far, it's been absolutely fantastic. If the day comes when it stops being fantastic and breaks down then every part is available from Polini, and they're pretty cheap too. None of the "your motor has a...
I suppose an update to my SL value prediction above, last November I bought the lad an absolutely mint SL Comp in Red, with a range extender, hope wheels with new Michelins on, it's got MT7 brakes and renthal bars. All the standard parts were included and I gave £3600 for it. Without the...
I don't think I could inflict someone else with the curse of this bike so I'm using it as a bit of a development donkey.
I could do with a spare motor cover if you know anyone with a knackered motor who might spare a cover? The round one on the left side, held on with three Allen key screws. It...
My bike is in bits (again) Stu so if you want to try my battery on your bike your welcome to.
I've found a solution to all my Giant garbage firmware problems, I've bought a different bike. 🙃
You use it if you want to.
You're not allowed to use it in aircraft, is what I know, because they crash and people die when things don't work properly.
I'll take aircraft engineers over turntable engineers. :)
Just a little silicone grease on the seals but avoid getting it on the contacts. I often use a cotton bud with grease on just one side and keep the dry side towards the contacts.
It just rain here, a lot. The dirt is mostly abrasive too so everything gets killed.
Bike and motor manufacturers should come here to test and develop stuff, not California and the Algarve. Shimano came here once because they couldn't believe the wear rates on mechanical stuff, and their visit...
