    Newbie from Auckland, New Zealand

The weather has been mint for the most part this winter. Cold and clear. I was in T7 pre-COVID and the mechanic had a Giant Reign E+ in the stand. I asked if they sold many and he said they were flying out the door. I guess with lockdown everyone then got the biking bug and now they can’t restock.

    Newbie from Auckland, New Zealand

Porirua checking in. I like to mooch around my local Torpedo7 and they honestly look like they've been ram-raided. Most of the bike racks are empty.

Switched to using Trail to Eco for DH - better!

I almost always ride in “Normal” mode (3 of 5) on my Giant. I only bump it up if there is a steep pinch climb to get up.

What price did they quote? Did you do it through your LBS?

    Re-routing internal cables

For some reason, when my Fathom E+ was assembled, they routed EVERY cable (controller, rear brake, gear cable) through the left-side internal cable port by the head tube. At some stage, I want to add a dropper post, so I'd like to move the gear cable to the right side port and then later thread...

Latest App and Firmware now live.

Yeah it used to just be holding down the Walk button, but Giant changed it in a later firmware update to the two-step process.

    Is my chain too short?

    It’s a hardtail, btw.

    Is my chain too short?

I recently put a 11-40T cassette in place of the stock 11-36 one. It seems to run fine and the only adjustment was a tweak of the B screw so the top pulley can clear the cog. The Deore MG592 derailleur is listed as having a max cog of 36T. I am concerned that the chain seems a tad short for...

What don't you like about your giant apart from the app

I'm not a fan of the 400wh battery. A 5-600 would give me that extra head room. I'm always conscious of range when I go out. My particular Fathom also was built with a slightly twisted downtube - it's straight, but just welded wrong to the BB and head tube. The battery sticks slightly out to...

What phone do you use with the Ride Control App

You have a 2020 Trance E, so you have the newer RideControl One controller with Ant+. This means you just need to buy one of these Giant Ride Control Plus ANT+ | Comprar en EBIKE24.es to get battery, range and mode etc.

They also don't seem to have ANY support channels so there's nowhere to report bugs or even make suggestions.

Battery drain with latest RideControl app update

No, I want to be able to contact them to tell them their app is draining battery. I only started the app to check for updates. I didn't start a ride so there is NO reason for it to be still running in the background like this.

Has anyone mixed resin and metal brake pads on their ebike?

I found semis were better than resins on my normal bike but, to be fair, my usage was mostly commuting. Interestingly, SickBiker did a comparison of resin, kevlar, ceramic, metallic, and semi-metallic here:

Has anyone mixed resin and metal brake pads on their ebike?

You could try semi-metallic pads. A good middle-ground between resin and metal, in my experience.

    Finally got my bigger battery!

Not gonna lie, that Gen 4 Bosch motor looks tidy. Not sure how I feel about the handlebar controller, though. I do like the minimalist RideControl.
