I also crashed on my first proper ride out on my Rail. Riding familiar trails and pedalling in places from memory most likely, overshot a jump I've hit dozens of times not realising I was carrying way more speed then normal. No loss of conscientiousness though, just a sore knee and wet gloves!
I’m not sure if they recommend or not, I’ve found very little online about it but for what they cost it’s not worth the risk. I’d hate for them to come loose and damage the frame or motor.
Motor is currently on the floor. Nice and easy to remove as long as you’re careful unplugging everything. Brakes will be on tonight.
Just waiting for some new motor mount bolts to arrive as well. Although I can’t find anything online for torque settings for the motor mount bolts....
FYI anyone attempting this I don’t think it can be done with the motor in place. The routing above the motor together with the other cables in the same area would make fishing it through from the chain stay to the battery compartment impossible, even using the old hose to pull it through.
Please...
From the description I would say inside the seat stay around this area? Where the tyre is closest to the frame? On the 7 kit it was all one piece the covered both sides and the piece between.
I always wash with the battery in place. The bike is designed to be exposed to mud, water etc when it’s being ridden so it seems common sense to me. I just don’t drown the motor and battery area with water when rinsing. Although there are videos of ebikes being ridden through rivers so it may...
Keep us posted! I'd be interested to see if anyone has any issues. How long did you have to wait at the end of the ride until you could turn off the bike?
Hi everyone,
Long time MTB'er, first time EMTB'er.
I've just bought a Trek Rail 7, have ridden 130mm ish trail bikes for years so it's a big difference but the Rail gives you so much confidence and is definitely named well.
I ride mostly at Hamsterley Forest, normally twice a week if I get...
It's loud enough for you to notice definitely. I would say louder than chain slap. I hate constant rattles on my bikes but where I ride it doesn't do it often enough for me to be too bothered. I think I have some GoPro footage of my first ride out that I can dig out to see how audible it is if...
My Rail 7 is the same. Although it’s only noticeable on one trail at my local trail centre, which is called boneshaker funnily enough. It’s all fairly quick, very rooty and no pedalling which is what everyone is describing as the situation where they can hear the clattering noise.
I also doubled up around possible rubbing areas. You get some duplicate bits and some small patches spare, well with the 7 kit you did anyway and the carbon kit should be fairly similar.
Exactly this. You can’t use too much soapy water. Wet the frame and the back of the sticker then move it to where you want then squeeze the water out.
I found that when getting edges to stick around the fiddly shaped bits wiping the water out from the centre with a microfibres cloth worked well...
Has anyone replaced the rear brake hose on a rail? Or have a diagram/pictures of how the hose is routed past the motor?
I have a spare set of Saint’s I wouldn’t mind fitting but the hose is crimped to the fitting that bolts to the calipers so I can’t use the original hoses and it’ll have to be...
