You’re right, and for one heavy bike those Yakima 3-bike racks look suitable. I opted to ride it out - literally - until I could get a hitch rack. I’m a mile from GGNRA, almost all my rides start from home. That said, looking forward to using the rack for the bike’s first road trip, a week...
Mine took about 18 days. Days 3-14 were basically waiting for Bosch to make a decision after Trek sent diagnostic logs, etc. They didn't drop the motor until the new one arrived. Anyway, glad to have it back!
As you note there's the jackhammer effect on the lower brack so I suspect over time I'll have to do it again. So far so good over the same trails I'd been riding all along, about 400 miles over 20-30 rides where previously it would have occurred 3 out of 4 rides. Fingers crossed :)
I never had the battery drop issue but the power cut plagued me even after Trek (corporate retail store) did the RIB adjustment a couple times, until one of their techs told me what he does: drop the motor cover, loosen the lower battery bracket (the torx on the underside of the downtube) and...

What you're describing is a symptom of the way the aluminum rims are constructed. There is a little "puck" that is used to align both ends of the rim before they're welded. The puck isn't welded, and the hope is that it will just stay there for the life of...
They're on the US site as well.
9.8 and above will have the new system, and the 750 will be removable.

I had momentary battery disconnects on almost every ride (on bumpy descents) even after a visit to trek for a realignment. I finally solved it by removing the motor cover, loosening the lower bracket bolts, and pressing the lower bracket up into the battery with a long hex wrench while...
I’d be wary of bringing in a modified motor. And I would think it’s certain you’ll get firmware update on the motor as a matter of course - there’s no valid reason not to.
I’ve got my Rail 5’s original 500wh battery (bought and use a 625) and if I can find a reasonable way to carry it I might get a cover and bracket kit.
To those who carry a second battery, how do you? Anyone find a way to strap it to the bike (or is that a stupid idea)? What brand/model...
Threw error 500 on a ride Tuesday, got it home w/o assist. Yesterday it was still throwing a 500 when powered up, but wasn’t immediately powering down on it’s own. I test-rode the bike around the yard and it wanted to take off on its own! I walked it back into my shed and noticed the motor...
Ouch. In my case, I left the bike with Trek for a couple of days, during which they cleared codes and did a firmware upgrade, all working now. It’s possible the rear light was shorting out due to moisture at/near where I soldered and wrapped the wiring, so I re-wrapped the wiring and insofar...
After throwing a code 550 my Rail is at the local Trek store, and anticipating a couple of weeks o_O without my bike, I dusted off my other ‘modern’ bike - going analog on my 1st gen FS bike, c. 1995.
Threw a 550 code today. Trek Rail 5. I disconnected the lighting at the motor, still happens. Bike had its first encounter with mud/rain last weekend, and got the usual low-pressure bath it’s been getting every couple of weeks for the past five months. Brought it to Trek and in the few...
I installed head and tail lights, Trek enabled the lighting, setting wattage to12w. Much to my surprise the battery cut out at 8%, leaving me with a last mile uphill w/o power. On a 625Wh battery 8% comes out to 50Wh, or roughly four hours of lights-only. I’m way more likely to need a few...
