Amazing, well done!
I’m curious if you have any comments about the sealing of the motor?
The service manuals note about potentially damaging the seal on the lockring freaked me out, since that seal wasn’t visible from the outside. Fewer moving parts and good sealing was something that got me...
I find phone GPS App tracking to be pretty inaccurate in general. Aside from pulling elevation from GPS data, phones also seem to have a pretty low sample rate and of course, poor battery life. I was using a Garmin Edge 530 previously (mainly because it gave me battery % for my shimano motor)...
I can see the carbon weave on mine, but only if you hit it with a really bright light. 99% of the time it looks like gloss black with bronze tint. Applying ride wrap adds another layer of translucent.
FWIW- I also have a Propain Tyee with a similar finish, but less opaque. I quite like it.
/\ All good info on the seatpost cable routing. Another tip- if you're changing the housing out, remove the access cover (shown on pg 7) which covers the bend in the cable between DT and ST.
While we're on topic....
I was surprised to find the R Derailluer cable runs through the top tube, not...
That's not right, shock hardware should definitely be an interference fit into the bushing.
On FB, I believe it was the Aus EXe board, a few people had their Fox shocks warrantied through Trek dealers. Eyelets being out of tolerance was reported, but who knows. I think you would want to go...
Tightening the shock bolt is NOT the fix for vertical play. Sounds like you need to replace the DU bushing at minimum, possibly all shock hardware at the lower pivot to get the horizontal tolerances correct. Good thing that's inexpensive ($15-20).
It'd be great to know if these issues are with...
I wonder if they actually changed the crank spec because of the Q-factor, see here.
If you can get some $ back great, otherwise I’d consider the aluminum an upgrade. My 9.8 came with aluminum.
I'd ask about the following:
Manuals
Charger
Clip nut that secures the battery cover when battery is removed (may be secured to inside of cover)
If it's a Rockshox fork, Torque cap adapters
Air volume tokens for the fork
Air volume tokens for the shock
Spacer tool thing for tightening the...
Venting some frustration here, my XT 12spd M8100 shifter has failed after ~20 rides. The thumb lever is totally locked up, even with the cable removed. I am sure it will be warrantied, so I’m not going to attempt any DIY fixes.
I’ll still get a ride in on my Hardtail!
I've tracked it down to my Chris King rear hub, likely the microspline hub driver I installed when I swapped the wheels over from my previous bike. I've cleaned and lubed the hub guts, cassette & axle, swapped the wheel between bikes to confirm it was indeed the wheel. At least I know it's NOT...
I've been hunting a creak on my bike, which ended up being the hub driver. But my first assumption was a loose motor lockring which a lot of people have mentioned.
So first observation is that the lockring itself says 30nm torque, but the trek service manual say 50nm.
Also, the service manual...
I’ve mainly been riding around dusk and haven’t had too many opportunities for photos. But a lot of great riding and upgrades have been been happening! Conditions have been dry & cold here. I think the cold temps reduce range. I did one ride that was 14 miles, 2800’, mix of trail and Boost (with...
Cable rattle won't shouldn't be an issue. There is a plastic cable guide plate that is mechanically fastened to the upper/inside of the top tube, and a second guide piece that connects to the motor. I have to say, it's by for the best internal cable routing solution I've seen. I swapped out my...
Search away. My take on it is that you have to carefully qualify what an issue means to you. I have not heard of anything like a "failure", only bikes that were returned because they sounded/felt odd in certain circumstances. Which is a standard feature for Bosch/Shimano motors....
Your BB will be the same unsagged, slightly lower with sag, and definitely lower at bottom out (by however much travel you add). You’re adding travel only to the end/bottom of stroke.
I breifly had some creaking- Found one of the through-bolts that holds the motor into the frame had loosened up slightly. Didn’t know the torque spec so I just gave it a half-turn (<10nm) and it’s been silent since.
That’s the problem right there 😆
My .02c, there is no “correct fit” on a mountain bike, it depends on terrain, riding style, skills & priorities. Most all of us could go up or down a size and enjoythe pros/cons of each.
IMO Trek confused things with their “Frame size number/letter”. If they...
Right on- somebody here suggested asking your shop to not install the shuttle guard on the downtube. I think it goes on with adhesive, and I had to trim the ride wrap around that piece on mine. Not a big deal- seems redundant to have the shuttle guard over ride wrap...
Had a great ride on mine...
